This article gives analytical dependences for creep of concrete at heating, taking into account conditions of its drying. These dependences are based on the standard nonlinear theory of creep of concrete at a normal temperature and temperature-time analogy. For the description of creep at various stresses and temperatures the principle of superposition are used. All stages of model's creation are confirmed by the existing experimental data. Calculation examples are given.
A numerical model based on the mode superposition method is used to study the vortex-induced vibration response characteristics of a deep-sea riser such as steel catenary riser (SCR). A steel catenary riser can be modeled using a flexible cable with simple supports at both ends. The natural frequency, mode shape and mode curvature of the riser are calculated and the vortex-induced vibration response of the riser is obtained using the equilibrium of the input and output power. The mode superposition method is applied to the vibrational stresses for each mode to calculate the overall riser fatigue life.
This paper presents the Campbell diagram analysis of the rotordynamic system using the full order model (FOM) and the reduced order model (ROM) techniques to determine the critical speeds, identify the stability and reduce the computational time. Due to the spin-speed-dependent matrices (e.g., centrifugal stiffening matrix), several model order reduction (MOR) techniques may be considered, such as the modal superposition (MS) method and the Krylov subspace-based MOR techniques (e.g., Ritz vector (RV), quasi-static Ritz vector (QSRV), multifrequency quasi-static Ritz vector (MQSRV), multifrequency/ multi-spin-speed quasi-static Ritz vector (MMQSRV) and the combined Ritz vector & modal superposition (RV+MS) methods). The proposed MMQSRV method in this study is extended from the MQSRV method by incorporating the rotational-speed-dependent stiffness matrices into the Krylov subspace during the MOR process. Thus, the objective of this note is to respond to the question of whether to use the MS method or the Krylov subspace-based MOR technique in establishing the Campbell diagram of the shaft-disc-blade assembly systems in three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA). The Campbell diagrams produced by the FOM and various MOR methods are presented and discussed thoroughly by computing the norm of relative errors (ER). It is found that the RV and the MS methods are dominant at low and high rotating speeds, respectively. More precisely, as the spinning velocity becomes large, the calculated ER produced by the RV method is significantly increased; in contrast, the ER produced by the MS method is smaller and more consistent. From a computational point of view, the MORs have substantially reduced the time computing considerably compared to the FOM. Additionally, the verification of the 3D FE rotordynamic model is also provided and found to be in close agreement with the existing solutions.
Generally, it is necessary to perform transient structural analysis in order to verify and improve the seismic performance of high-rise buildings and bridges against earthquake loads. In this paper, we propose the model order reduction (MOR) method using the Krylov vectors to perform seismic analysis for linear and elastic systems in an efficient way. We then compared the proposed method with the mode superposition method (MSM) by using the limited numbers of modal vectors (or eigenvectors) calculated from the modal analysis. In the calculation, the data of the El Centro earthquake in 1940 were adopted for the seismic loading in the transient analysis. The numerical accuracy and efficiency of the two methods were compared in detail in the case of a simplified high-rise building.

The transient analysis for the output voltage of a piezoresistive microaccelerometer takes a relatively high computation time because at least two iterations are required to calculate the piezoresistive-structural coupled response at each time step. In this study, the high computational cost for calculating the transient output voltage is considerably reduced by an approach integrating the mode superposition method and the least square method. In the approach, data on static displacement and output voltage calculated by piezoresistive-structural coupled simulation for three acceleration inputs are used to develop a quadratic regression model, relating the output voltage to the displacement at a certain observation point. The transient output voltage is then approximated by a regression model using the displacement response cheaply calculated by the mode superposition method. A high-impact microaccelerometer subject to several types of acceleration inputs such as 100,000 G shock, sine, step, and square pulses are adopted as a numerical example to represent the efficiency and accuracy of the suggested approach.
In this paper, the superposition principle of a heat sink temperature rise is verified based on the mathematical model of a plate-fin heat sink with two mounted heat sources. According to this, the distributed coupling thermal impedance matrix for a heat sink with multiple devices is present, and the equations for calculating the device transient junction temperatures are given. Then methods to extract the heat sink thermal impedance matrix and to measure the Epoxy Molding Compound (EMC) surface temperature of the power Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) instead of the junction temperature or device case temperature are proposed. The new thermal impedance model for the power converters in Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drivers is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink. The obtained simulation results are validated with experimental results. Compared with the Finite Element Method (FEM) thermal model and the traditional thermal impedance model, the proposed thermal model can provide a high simulation speed with a high accuracy. Finally, the temperature rise distributions of a power converter with two control strategies, the maximum junction temperature rise, the transient temperature rise characteristics, and the thermal coupling effect are discussed.

Thermal analysis and prediction of electronic components is required to predict and optimize the reliability of onboard electronic unit employed in space vehicles. This paper introduces a methodology on thermal prediction that uses isothermal PCB model, thermal force model, thermal resistance matrix and superposition principle to calculate electronic devices temperatures undergoing thermal conduction environment. An example is Presented including a prediction result by this method and simulation results performed by commercial program.

This paper develops a mite element model of a polygon mirror scanner motor supported by the sintered bearing and flexible supporting structures to analyze the shock response by using the finite element method and the mode superposition method. The validity of the proposed model is verified by comparing the simulated natural frequencies and shock response with the experimental ones. It investigates the displacement and the stress of the most vulnerable component, i.e. a leaf spring due to shock, and it proposes a robust design of leaf spring of a polygon mirror scanner motor against shock.

A military vehicle undergoes normal to extreme driving conditions, which consequently induce the fatigue and fracture of cabin and frame. So, it is important to estimate the fatigue life of two components at an initial design stage. In this paper, Modal Superposition Method(MSM) was applied to evaluate the durability performance of a small-sized military truck. For reliable durability analysis, a Virtual Test Lab(VTL) Model was established by correlation with experimental results. These data were extracted from actual driving test, modal test, and SPMD(Suspension Parameter Measuring Device) test. This process shows that Virtual Fatigue Analysis can be a useful approach in the development of military vehicles as well as commercial vehicles.
The semi-empirical superposition model has been applied to calculate the zero field splitting parameters of $Mn^{2+}$ion in $LiTaO_3$ single crystal, assuming that $Mn^{2+}$ion occupies one of two possible sites: $Li^{l+} \;or\; Ta^{5+}$ site, respectively. The 2nd-order axial zero field splitting parameters are $958\times10^{-4}cm^{-1}\; at\; Li^{1+}$ site and $193\times 10^{-4}cm^{-1} \;at\; Ta^{5+}$ site for $Mn^{2+}$ions. The 4th-order zero field splitting parameters at $Li^{l+} \;and\; Ta^{5+}$ sites are also determined. These calculated zero field splitting parameters are very important to determine the substitutional sites of doped impurity ions in $LiTaO_3$ crystal.
