  • This paper focuses on estimation of an non-integral quadratic function (NIQF) and integral quadratic function (IQF) of a random signal in dynamic system described by a linear stochastic differential equation. The quadratic form of an unobservable signal indicates useful information of a signal for control. The optimal (in mean square sense) and suboptimal estimates of NIQF and IQF represent a function of the Kalman estimate and its error covariance. The proposed estimation algorithms have a closed-form estimation procedure. The obtained estimates are studied in detail, including derivation of the exact formulas and differential equations for mean square errors. The results we demonstrate on practical example of a power of signal, and comparison analysis between optimal and suboptimal estimators is presented.

  • This paper considers the problem of state estimation in linear continuous-time systems with multi-sensor environment and observation uncertainties. We propose two suboptimal filtering algorithms for these types of systems. The filtering algorithms consist of two steps: The local optimal Kalman estimates are computed at the first step. And, these local estimates are lineally fused at the second step. The implementation of the two-step filtering algorithms needs a lower memory demand than the optimal Kalman and adaptive Lainiotis-Kalman filters. In consequence of parallel structure of the proposed filters, the parallel computers can be used for their design. The examples exhibit the effect of common noise on the performance of fusion of the local Kalman estimates based on observations from different sensors and in the presence of uncertainties.

  • In this paper, we proposed a mixed H$_{2}$/H$_{\infty}$ optimal controller design method using the parameterization of H$_{2}$ suboptimal controller. The method is based on the minimization of H$_{2}$ performance measure with an H$_{\infty}$-norm constraint. We also derived the necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of solution from the decoupled Riccati equations. And the designed controller has state-space representation.n.

  • We introduce a series of studies on turbulent skin friction drag reduction in wall-turbulence. First, an identity equation relating the skin friction drag and the Reynolds shear stress (the FIK identity) is introduced. Based on the implication of the FIK identity, a new analytical suboptimal feedback control law requiring the streamwise wall-shear stress only is introduced and direct numerical simulation (DNS) results of turbulent pipe flow with that control is reported. We also introduce DNS of an anisotropic compliant surface and parameter optimization using an evolutionary optimization technique.

  • Adaptive controllers for linear unknown coefficient system, that is corrupted by disturbance, are designed by parameter adaptation model reference adaptive control(MRAC). This design is stemmed from the Lyapunov direct method. To reduce the model following error and to improve the convergence rate of the design, an indirect-suboptimal control law is derived. Proper compensation for the effects of time-varying coefficients and plant disturbance are suggested. In the design procedure no complete identification of unknown coefficients are required.

  • This paper presents a method of sub-optimal control for nonlinear systems via block pulse transformation. The adaptive optimal control scheme proposed by J.P. Matuszewski is introduced to minimize the performance index. The proposed method is simple and computationally advantageous. Viablity of the this method is established with simulation results for the van der Pole equation for comparision with other methods.

  • Adaptive controllers for linear system whose nominal values of coefficients only are known, that is corrupted by disturbance, are designed by signal synthesis model reference adaptive control (MRAC). This design is stemmed from the Lyapunov direct method. To reduce the model following error and to improve the conrergence rate of the design, an indirect suboptimal control law is de rived using the Hamilton Jacobi Beellman equation. Proper compensaton for the effects of time varying coefficients and plant disturbance are suggested. In the design procedure no complete identification of unknown coefficients are required.

  • This paper presents an improved algorithm which enables to find a suboptimal $H^{\infty}$ controller. In the $H^{\infty}$ control problem with output multiplicative uncertainty, the Glover-Doyle algorithm has sorne constraints for the standard plant. The proposed algorithm removes them by reformulating the standard plant. We show the validity of this algorithm by investigating the variation of norm-bound.d.
