  • This study aims to determine whether gender moderates the impact of grit on academic achievement through learning engagement among Chinese high school students. Data were collected through an online survey targeting 345 high school students purposively sampled from a high school in Guangdong, China. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS PC+ Win ver. 25.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro ver. 4.2. The applied statistical methods were frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and moderated mediation effect analysis. The conclusion of the study is as follows. First, grit had a significant positive correlation with learning engagement and academic achievement but no significant correlation with gender. Learning engagement showed a positive correlation with gender and academic achievement. Second, gender moderated the effect of grit on academic achievement through learning engagement. In other words, the conditional indirect effect of grit on academic achievement through learning engagement was higher for men than for women. Based on these results, this study proposed ways to utilize grit and learning engagement differently according to gender to improve the academic achievement of high school students.

  • In a sense that achievement emotion is directly associated with achievement activity of students and its result, drastic changes in educational environment such as expansion of e-learning due to COVID-19 may have a large impact on the achievement emotion of students inevitably. However, studies on the foregoing still remain insufficient, and development of a questionnaire capable of making a quantitative measurement on the achievement emotion of students under the environment of e-learning may become the basis of relevant studies, so this study developed the e-learning Achievement Emotions Questionnaire-Korean Middle school Science(e-AEQ-KMS) and verified its validity. e-AEQ-KMS in this study was developed based on the Achievement Emotions Questionnaire-Korean Middle school Science (AEQ-KMS) and by reflecting characteristics of e-learning science class. With 226 questions in total, the questionnaire is composed to measure 9 kinds of achievement emotion such as enjoyment, hope, pride, relief, anger, anxiety, hopelessness, shame, and boredom under 3 academic situations of class situation, learning situation and testing situation. The result of this study has a great significance in the way that it set out a framework for making a comparative analysis quantitatively on the achievement emotion of Korean middle school students in science for e-learning classes.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self-regulated learning program on the underachiever's academic achievement and academic self-concept. To achieve the purpose of study the research hypotheses were as follows : Hypothesis 1 : There will be significant differences in the improvement of academic achievement between the experimental group and the control group. Hypothesis 2 : There will be significant differences in the improvement of academic self-concept between the experimental group and the control group. To verify these hypotheses, 32 underachievers were selected from sixth grade students of 'D' elementary school located in Seoul. 16 students were allocated to the experimental group and 16 students were allocated to the control group. The experimental group trained with self-regulated learning program for 10 times(The length of each section was 60 minutes). The self-regulated learning program in this study was based on program by Kim. Yong-Soo(1998), The measurement instruments of the study were mathematics achievement test paper and academic self-concept test. To find out the difference, Pretest-posttest control design was used. Mean and standard deviations obtained from these tests were analysed with t-test. The major findings obtained through this study are as follows : First, self-regulated learning program was effective in improvement of academic achievement (p<.05). Second, self-regulated learning Program was not effective in improvement of academic self-concept. However, the experimental group showed significant improvement(p<.01) at academic self-concept and sub academic self-concepts (ability, achievement) in the data of pre-post test. it can be suggested that this program had positive influence on underachievers. Although it has some limitations, self-regulated learning program is effective to academic achievement and academic self-concept of underachievers, even though not significant, it has a positive t.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the sequential mediating effects of social withdrawal and depression in the relationship between achievement motivation and career decision of multicultural adolescents. To this end, we analyzed adolescents data from the 8th year survey(2018) of the 'Multicultural Adolescent Panel Study(MAPS)' provided by the National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI). As a result of the study, first, achievement motivation was found to have a significant and positive effect on career decision. Second, it was found that social withdrawal did not mediate the relationship between achievement motivation and career decision. Third, it was found that depression mediates the relationship between achievement motivation and career decision. Fourth, it was found that social withdrawal and depression sequentially mediate the relationship between achievement motivation and career decision. Based on the results of this study, we searched for social support measures to improve the career decision of multicultural adolescents and support their career paths, and suggested implications and limitations of the results of this study and suggestions for follow-up studies.

The sample of this study are In students consisting of 51 boys and 49 girls in the 3rd grade classes of "J" middle school located in Siheung city, Kyungki-do. The observed materials are used to investigate the parent's achievement pressure and the level of stress. Based on the observed data, the frequency, correlation, and t-test have been gained. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The perception of the parent's achievement pressure is shown more by the boy's achievement pressure($44.2{\pm}9.9$) than the girl's achievement pressure($39.939{\pm}11.089$), among the high level students. 2. The perception of the parent's achievement pressure is shown more the high($43.0{\pm}10.7$) and middle($42.9{\pm}11.8$) level students than the low($39.7{\pm}8.00$) level students. 3. The stress of male students was high in the Solving Problem stress factor with by the mean of $15.1{\pm}3.7$, and the stress of female students was high in the Self-Control stress factor with the mean of $13.3{\pm}3.9$. 4. The stress of high, middle, low level student was high in the Solution of Matter stress factor with the mean of $14.2{\pm}3.9$. 5. The results were the main cause of the stress than the parent's achievement pressure.

  • The purpose of the study was to examine any difference in academic achievement, self-concept and achievement motivation by the types of hemispheric dominance. 189 high school students participated in the study. They were taken three kinds of different psychological tests i.e., the brain hemispheric preference (dominance), the self-concept and the achievement motivation tests. Three types of hemispheric dominance were classified as the left hemispheric, the right hemispheric and whole brain dominances. The results showed that students with the right hemispheric dominance showed lower academic achievement and self concept than the other groups students. Those who had left hemisphere dominance showed higher achievement motivation than the right hemispheric students. These results could be interpreted that education in the high school in Korea mainly focuses left hemisphere related topics or subjects.

  • This study aims to examine the effects of academic procrastination in middle school students on their academic achievement. It also analyzed the influences of stress level recognized by middle school students on their academic achievement. First, it examined theoretical and preceding studies and assumed that sub-factors of academic procrastination in middle school students such as behavioral, cognitive and emotional factors affected their academic achievement. It was assumed that the middle school students' stress had the direct mediating effects on their academic achievement. As a result of the research, it was found that sub-factors of academic procrastination in middle school students such as behavioral, cognitive and emotional factors had partially direct influence on their stress and academic achievement. It was shown that the analysis of mediating effects from middle school students' stress had no influence on the academic achievement. This study presented policy suggestions of academic achievement in middle school students as an alternative based on the research results.
