  • According to the current research of educational assessment, formative assessment which focuses on improving students' learning has been emphasized. Consequently, integration between instruction and assessment is crucial and various assessment strategies are required. In order to use different assessment strategies in classrooms, teachers should experience strategies and reflect their strengths and weaknesses. In this study, pre-service elementary teachers experienced six assessment strategies (feedback, providing assessment standard, providing exemplary cases, self assessment, peer assessment, and written assessment), and their perceptions toward each strategy were investigated. During one semester, pre-service teachers experienced each of them and they answered questionnaire at the end of the semester. From the results, it is found that pre-service teachers presented different strategies that were most helpful in their cognitive and affective domain according to their perception of assessment. The results imply that different assessment strategies should be applied in instruction and teachers should extend their perception of assessment purposes.

  • The purpose of this study is to test the effect of pedagogical agent realism and expertise on persona effect. There were two perspectives of the pedagogical agents' social interaction. Self-identification hypothesis argues that complexity of agent image is better to increase social interaction. Subjective identification insists that simplified image is more helpful to facilitate social interaction. However, from the cognitive load theory perspective, learners' expertise can be a major factor to determine persona effect. Sixty-eight college students (male=19 and female=49) participated. The independent variables were the degree of realism of pedagogical agent (detailed vs. simplified image) and the expertise (high prior knowledge group vs. low prior knowledge group). The dependant variables were comprehension test and the agent persona instrument (API). There was no significant difference in comprehension test score; however, there were significant interaction effect on the most constructs of API: 1) facilitating of learning, 2) credible, and 3) human-like. The follow-up analysis of simple main effect revealed that high expertise group showed significantly higher perception of the three construct with high realism of pedagogical agent. The results of study show that learners' expertise plays a key role of perception of persona effect.

  • This study analyzed the types of scientific emoticons made by science-gifted elementary school students and their perceptions on making scientific emoticons. To do this, 71 students from 4th to 6th graders of two gifted science education center in Seoul were selected. Scientific emoticons made by the students were analyzed according to the number and types. Their perceptions on making scientific emoticons were also analyzed through a questionnaire and group interviews. In the analyses for types of text in the scientific emoticons, 'word type' and 'sentence type' were made more than 'question and answer type'. And the majority of students made more 'pun using pronunciation type' and 'mixed type' than other types. They also made more 'graphic type' and 'animation type' than 'text type' in the images of the scientific emoticons. In the analyses for the information of the scientific emoticons, 'positive emotion type' and 'negative emotion type' of scientific emoticons were made evenly. The students made more 'new creation type' than 'partial correction type' and 'entire reconstruction type'. They also used scientific knowledge that preceded the knowledge of science curriculum in their grade level. The scientific knowledge of chemistry was used more than physics, biology, earth science, and combination field. 'Name utilization type' was more than 'characteristic utilization type' and 'principle utilization type'. Students had various positive perceptions in making scientific emoticons such as 'increase of scientific knowledge', 'increase of various higher-order thinking abilities', 'ease of explanation, use, memory, and understanding of scientific knowledge', 'increase of fun, enjoyment, and interest about science and science learning', and 'increase of opportunity to express emotions'. They were also aware of some limitations related to 'difficulties in the process of making scientific emoticons', 'lack of time', and 'limit that it may end just for fun'. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze current status and teacher librarians' perceptions of school library space composition and indoor environment, and propose some methods for the school library to be a basic educational facility. The space most secured by the 126 teacher librarians who participated in the survey was the free reading area, and the space with the lowest level was the media production and group project area. The most important types of spaces for teacher librarians are the teaching area and the free reading area, while the recognition of the importance of media production and group project areas is relatively low. Among the elements of indoor environmental assessment, they showed that safety and comfort were the most important but diversity and flexibility were relatively less important. The result of this analysis is different from the school and library policy direction that emphasizes the learning commons and maker spaces. Teacher librarians still seem to appreciate the importance of traditional library space. Therefore, it is necessary to include the establishment and operation of maker spaces and learning commons in the teacher librarians training and retraining process. In addition, it is necessary to increase the participation of users such as teachers, students, and parents in space composition and interior design initiatives to increase the user's interior environment satisfaction.

  • This research aims to study Michael Chekhov's acting techniques scientifically, because his techniques has been studied only theoretically or empirically. Especially, this study focuses on 'imagination' and 'Psychological Gesture' from the perspective of cognitive psychology. Chekhov thought 'imagination' as the basis and core of all the works of acting. In cognitive psychology, it is called as 'imagery' and means 'a representation of the mind of the object not communicated by the sensory organs currently'. This study starts with defining imagery and takes a brief look at the features and kinds of imagery. Then the researcher will prove scientifically the possibility of training acting using imagery as Chekhov's assertion. For the proof of the validity of imagery, we'll look for the theoretical evidences-functional equivalence hypothesis, psychoneuromuscular theory, symbolic learning theory, psychophygiological information processing-and experimental ones-measurements of cerebral blood flow or event-related potential, experiments with fMRI(functional magnetic resonance imaging) or PET(positron emission tomography). As a result, we can see that imagery is functionally identical to perception and improves fulfillment of cognitive and physical tasks. As proving physical changes can draw out psychological changes(feeling) on the medium of imagery, we can also see the validity of Psychological Gesture. From the above research, even if Chekhov developed the acting techniques only on the basis of his experience, his techniques can be thought as having scientific validity. Though insufficient, this study can be a help for actors or students as they using Chekhov's techniques.
