  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of nursing student's preceptorship and to compare the perception on the readiness of clinical competence between nurse preceptors and senior-level nursing students. Method: Data was collected with self-administered questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test. Study participants were 65 preceptors in one university hospital and 59 nursing students in the same university. Result: The knowledge and satisfaction about preceptorship in the nurse preceptor was 2.66 and 2.70 out of 5. Most of the preceptors (70%) agreed to the students preceptorship program even though the intention to be a preceptor was very low (14.1%). They responded that the merits of student preceptorship were self-development (29.7%) and knowledge acquisition (29.7%), whereas the disadvantages were increased workload (67.2%) and increased stress (23.4%). Requested rewards were monetary reward (44.4%) and promotion (33.3%). In all areas of clinical competence readiness, students' perception score was higher than preceptors'. Conclusion: Nursing education must reexamine current approaches to clinical teaching and seek methods to better prepare future nurses. These findings may serve as a guide to create an ideal students preceptorship program to place a greater emphasis on the competencies desired for providing high quality nursing services.

Our results indicated that the pro-sociality, sociality, and leadership qualities of child peer-competence correlated positively with the friendliness of teacher-child relationships but correlated negatively in cases of conflicts within the teacher-child relationship. The factors of self-appraisal, self-determination and behavior inhibition of child self-regulation were found to be positively related with the friendliness of teacher-child relation but related negatively with presence of the conflict within the teacher-child relationship. It was also found that sociable and self-determinative children tended to be on more friendly terms with teachers.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical competence of medical student using short case test items. Development of short case test items with definition of an assessment of subject, choice of clinical stations sampling, identification of components of clinical competence to be evaluated, and assessment of practicability and results exploitation. For the last three years 28, 48 and 30 topics were developed annually. Among them 20, 23 and 23 topics were selected. About 50 students were examined annually. The mean score was 72.7, 57.1, 64.3 respectively. The mean preparation time of the students for the examination was 9.8 hours. About 60% of the students prepared the test in small group activity. Our experience suggests that short case test items be feasible for evaluation of student learning in Plastic Surgery. This method should be considered as a useful tool to assess medical student's competence or even an examination for board certification.
