The Suwon stream which consists of a mountainous reach, an artificial reservoir and an urban reach provides benthic macroinvertebrates with various habitats. This study was conducted to find out the influence of reservoir sluice control and water quality on benthic macroinvertebrates community in the Suwon stream from June to August, 2011. As a result, substrate composition showed little difference between the upper site (S2) and the lower site of the reservoir (S3). At site S3, water velocity was fastest, and water temperature was lowest due to the intermediate depth discharge of the reservoir. Cheumatopsyche brevilineata which prefer fast water velocity was dominant at site S3. Some biotic indices (H', J, and R) of site S3 decreased significantly whereas Benthic Macroinvertebrate Index (BMI) showed little difference between site S2 and site S3. EPT showed a negative correlation with water temperature. The sluice control of the reservoir leaded variations of water velocity and temperature, and seemed to make the state of aquatic ecosystem worse.

Understanding of the hydraulics of flow is very important to support the management of river. The cross-sectional area, average velocity, flow depth and discharge can be regarded as a power function each other. In this paper the flow of Bocheong stream basin is experimentally studied. The correlation analysis was performed between observed hydraulic factors by the power type function. The constants resulted from the correlation analysis were calculated by the geomorphologic characteristics of the watershed using the power type function. The correlation coefficients between the hydraulic factors were appeared close to unit having strong correlationship. The two conditions of equality of the continuity equation were analysed, and the conditions were found to be good results. From these results the observed hydraulic data of Bocheong stream basin can be concluded as a reliable data. The correlation coefficients between the parameters of the hydraulic characteristics and geomorphologic factors were found to be close to unit.

In incompressible flow which has multi-length scale, it has a very important effect which dependent variables are used for adaptive grid generation. Among many length scales in incompressible flow, the dependent variables used for the adaptive grid generation should be able to represent the feature of the concerned system. In this paper, by using vorticity and stream function, in addition to velocity components, the smoother and more stable grid generation is possible and these four flow properties represent each scale. The adaptive grid generation for a lid-driven cavity flow with $N_{re}$ =3200 using four flow properties such as velocity components, vorticity, stream function is performed, and the usefulness of using vorticity and stream function as the indicator for adaptive grid generation is shown.

This study investigates the relation between the location of a habitat and the ecological connections according to the habitat type in the riparian zone at the Bokha stream. Stream habitat is classified into nine types for the aquatic insects and fish. For vegetation and birds, habitat is classified into five types of medium-scale streams, including both physical and chemical streams are analyzed accordingly. The major results of this study are as follows: 1) A pool connected to the main stream has a certain water depth (about 80 cm) and is disturbed at least 5 to 6 times a year. Although the pool has a somewhat bad water quality, it provides a habitat for various types of young fish. 2) A meander riffle is about 15 cm deep, the flow velocity in the region is about 75 cm/s. This region does not have large structures to which aquatic insects can attach, so it cannot be used as a spawning ground. 3) A rock type pool is about 60 cm deep, the flow velocity in the meander riffle is about 25 cm/s. In this region, many aquatic insects attached to large structures appear. Due to various riparian vegetation, the rock type pool is used as a habitat for aquatic insects. 4) A pool which is only connected to the main stream during floods has a bad water quality. Despite of its relatively small size, it has a high population density of aquatic insects. faculty.
Habitat suitability index (HSI) of 17 benthic macroinvertebrate taxa, which were lotic insects of generic category except Potamanthidae in mayfly, was developed for three physical habitat factors (current velocity, water depth and substrate) based on an ecological monitoring in a Korean stream (Gapyeong). Weibull model was used as a probability density function to analyze the distribution of individual abundance related with physical factors, which showed it was so available. Number of species and total individual abundance increased along with the increase of current velocity and the mean diameter of substrate, and decreased along with the increase of water depth. Most taxa showed a clear preference for a fast current velocity, shallow water depth and coarse substrate except Ephemera, Potamanthidae (mayfly), and Plectrocnemia (caddisfly) which were rheophobic, potamophilic and lithophobious. Based on the canonical correspondence analysis, the relative importance of each factor was determined as follows: current velocity > substrate > water depth.

The computational fluid dynamics was analyzed for the pressure distribution, stream velocity distribution, stream line field, retention time and temperature distribution which are applied to the catalyst layer in the RCO reactor to derive the optimum operating condition of the heat condensing type catalytic oxidation (RCO) reactor. The results from the computational analysis revealed that the pressure loss due to the ceramic honeycomb in the catalytic bed of the reactor which is operating currently is not significant and the stream velocity (1.8~2.7 m/s) after the ceramic filter is working in stability without big channeling. To improve the stream velocity distribution of the air stream, it is necessary to extension of the connecting range between the plenum and catalytic bed inside the facility. However, the method of attaching the air stream guide vane or the perforated plate inside the reactor was not so effective.
A series of numerical calculations are performed in order to investigate the dispersion mechanism of toxic gaseous and solid pollutants in extremely short-term and short range. The calculations are carried out in an open space characterized by turbulent boundary layer. The simulation is made by the use of numerical model, in which a control-volume based finite difference method is used together with the SIMPLEC algorithm for the resolution of the pressure-velocity coupling problem. The Reynolds stresses are solved by two-equation, k-$\varepsilon$ model modified for buoyancy. The major parameters consider-ed in this study are temperature, velocity and Injection height of toxic gases, environmental conditions such as temperature and velocity of free stream air, and topographic factor. The results are presented and discussed in detail. The flow field is commonly characterized by the formation of a strong recirculation zone due to the upward motion of the hot toxic gas and ground shear stress. The driving force of the upward motion is explained by the effect of thermal buoyancy of hot gas and the difference of inlet velocity between toxic gas and free stream.
The concentration gradient effects on triple flame have been studied experimentally using a slot burner in order to stabilize stationary triple flame in coflowing stream. By means of contraction we generate the coflowing stream with uniform velocity and linear concentration gradient at the outlet of the slot. In this paper we investigated the response of the triple flame. to the concentration gradient, like the stability, the liftoff height, and the structure of triple flame. Flow velocity is measured with Laser Doppler Velocimetry. As the concentration gradient increases. the flame propagation velocity in immediately upstream triple point increases until the liftoff height of triple flame becomes minimum, and then decreases.
Most studies on the shape of the steady vortex ring have been based on the Stokes stream function approach. In this study, the velocity approach is introduced as a trial approach. A contour dynamics method for fluid velocity is used to analyze the Norbury-Fraenkel family of vortex rings. Analytic integration is performed over the logarithmic-singular segment. A system of nonlinear equations for the discretized shape of the vortex core is formulated using the material boundary condition of the core. An additional condition for the velocities of the vortical and impulse centers is introduced to complete the system of equations. Numerical solutions are successfully obtained for the system of nonlinear equations using the iterative scheme. Specifically, the evaluation of the kinetic energy in terms of line integrals is examined closely. The results of the proposed method are compared with those of the stream function approaches. The results show good agreement, and thereby, confirm the validity of the proposed method.
In this paper, various operating parameters of stream reforming process from methane in preconverter for MCFC is studied by numerical method. Commercial code is used to simulated the porous catalyst with user subroutine to model three dominant chemical reactions which are Stream Reforming(SR), Water-Gas Shift(WGS), and Direct Stram Reforming(DSR). The hydrogen production is tested with different wall temperature, Gas Hourly Space Velocity(GHSV), and different reactor shapes.
