  • Steenrod algebra $\alpha$$_{p}$(mod p) was generated for algebra on steenrod reduced powers p$^n$ and Bochstein coboudary operation $\beta$. We know the relation between them. In this thesis I have verified the theorem: (equation omitted)

  • We investigate the Hopf algebra conjugation, ${\chi}$, of the mod 2 Steenrod algebra, $\mathcal{A}_2$, in terms of the Hopf algebra conjugation, ${\chi}^{\prime}$, of the mod 2 Leibniz-Hopf algebra. We also investigate the fixed points of $\mathcal{A}_2$ under ${\chi}$ and their relationship to the invariants under ${\chi}^{\prime}$.

  • Let $D_3$ be the Dickson invariant algebra of $F_2[X_1,\; X_2,\; X_3] \; by \; GL(3,\; F_2)$. In this paper, we provide an elementary proof of Theorem 3.2 of [2]; each element in $D_3$ is hit by the Steenrod square in $F_2[X_1,\; X_2,\; X_3]$.

  • Fix ℤ/2 is the prime field of two elements and write 𝒜2 for the mod 2 Steenrod algebra. Denote by GLd := GL(d, ℤ/2) the general linear group of rank d over ℤ/2 and by ${\mathfrak{P}}_d$ the polynomial algebra ℤ/2[x1, x2, …, xd] as a connected unstable 𝒜2-module on d generators of degree one. We study the Peterson "hit problem" of finding the minimal set of 𝒜2-generators for ${\mathfrak{P}}_d$. Equivalently, we need to determine a basis for the ℤ/2-vector space $$Q{\mathfrak{P}}_d:={\mathbb{Z}}/2{\otimes}_{\mathcal{A}_2}\;{\mathfrak{P}}_d{\sim_=}{\mathfrak{P}}_d/{\mathcal{A}}^+_2{\mathfrak{P}}_d$$ in each degree n ≥ 1. Note that this space is a representation of GLd over ℤ/2. The problem for d = 5 is not yet completely solved, and unknown in general. In this work, we give an explicit solution to the hit problem of five variables in the generic degree n = r(2t - 1) + 2ts with r = d = 5, s = 8 and t an arbitrary non-negative integer. An application of this study to the cases t = 0 and t = 1 shows that the Singer algebraic transfer of rank 5 is an isomorphism in the bidegrees (5, 5 + (13.20 - 5)) and (5, 5 + (13.21 - 5)). Moreover, the result when t ≥ 2 was also discussed. Here, the Singer transfer of rank d is a ℤ/2-algebra homomorphism from GLd-coinvariants of certain subspaces of $Q{\mathfrak{P}}_d$ to the cohomology groups of the Steenrod algebra, $Ext^{d,d+*}_{\mathcal{A}_2}$ (ℤ/2, ℤ/2). It is one of the useful tools for studying these mysterious Ext groups.

  • Let Ps := 𝔽2[x1, x2, …, xs] = ⊕n⩾0(Ps)n be the polynomial algebra viewed as a graded left module over the mod 2 Steenrod algebra, ${\mathfrak{A}}$. The grading is by the degree of the homogeneous terms (Ps)n of degree n in the variables x1, x2, …, xs of grading 1. We are interested in the hit problem, set up by F. P. Peterson, of finding a minimal system of generators for ${\mathfrak{A}}$-module Ps. Equivalently, we want to find a basis for the 𝔽2-graded vector space ${\mathbb{F}}_2{\otimes}_{\mathfrak{A}}$ Ps. In this paper, we study the hit problem in the case s = 5 and the degree n = 5(2t - 1) + 6 · 2t with t an arbitrary positive integer.

  • Let A be the mod p Steenrod algebra for p an arbitrary odd prime and S the sphere spectrum localized at p. In this paper, some useful propositions about the May spectral sequence are first given, and then, two new nontrivial homotopy elements ${\alpha}_1{\jmath}{\xi}_n\;(p{\geq}5,n\;{\geq}\;3)\;and\;{\gamma}_s{\alpha}_1{\jmath}{\xi}_n\;(p\;{\geq}\;7,\;n\;{\geq}\;4)$ are detected in the stable homotopy groups of spheres, where ${\xi}_n\;{\in}\;{\pi}_{p^nq+pq-2}M$ is obtained in [2]. The new ones are of degree 2(p - 1)($p^n+p+1$) - 4 and 2(p - 1)($p^n+sp^2$ + sp + (s - 1)) - 7 and are represented up to nonzero scalar by $b_0h_0h_n,\;b_0h_0h_n\tilde{\gamma}_s\;{\neq}\;0\;{\in}\;Ext^{*,*}_A^(Z_p,\;Z_p)$ in the Adams spectral sequence respectively, where $3\;{\leq}\;s\;<\;p-2$.
