  • In this paper, we present an optimization of truss structures subjected to stress, buckling, and natural frequency constraints. The main objective of the present study is to propose an efficient HA-SA algorithm for solving the truss optimization subject to multiple constraints. The procedure of hybrid HA-SA is a search method which a design values in harmony memory of harmony search are used as an initial value designs in simulated annealing search method. The efficient optimization of HA-SA is illustrated through several optimization examples. The examples of truss structures are used 10-Bar truss, 52-Bar truss (Dome), and 72-Bar truss for natural frequency constraints, and used 18-Bar truss and 47-Bar (Tower) truss for stress and buckling constraints. The optimum results are compared to those of different techniques. The numerical results are demonstrated the advantages of the HA-SA algorithm in truss optimization with multiple constraints.

  • In case of evaluating the bond stress of a void deck plate using a wire steel, there is no standard formula considering both the influence on the void and the type of the reinforcing bar. Therefore we proposed a model equation considered the bond characteristics of the void deck plate. A total of 46 specimens was carried out a direct pull-out test and the test variables were the presence of a void body, type of reinforcing bar, the inner cover thickness according to the location of reinforcing bars and bond region. As a result of the comparison between the steel bar and steel wire, the bond stress of the steel wire with the relative rib area of 0.071 is 4.5 ~ 28.58% lower than that of the steel bar with 0.092 and the bond stress reduction rate increases when the inner cover thickness is insufficient. In the case of the inner cover thickness of $1.7d_b$ and $2.7d_b$, the bond stress was reduced to 48.7 ~ 68.4%. In the inner cover thickness was $4.9d_b$ and $5.2d_b$, the bond stresses were equivalent to those of the solid specimens. It was confirmed that the average bond stress and strain were affected by the inner cover thickness. Therefore the predicted model for one module of the void deck plate is proposed and verified by considering the bond characteristics of the void deck plate.

  • To determine detection capabilities of locating steel bars and delamination inside concrete, commercially available nondestructive testing (NDT) equipments have been tested. The equipments include two radar systems and two electromagnetic method systems. The inclusions are a 19 mm diameter steel bar and 50 mm thick delamination embedded at different cover depths from the surface of concrete specimens. For the steel bar, attempts were made to determine the size of the bars by changing the diameter of the bars. A sample result of measuring horizontal spacing between doubly reinforced bars is presented in this paper. Experimental results on various measurement cases are discussed. Application of numerical modeling technique for the simulation of radar measurements and improved output display of radar measurements are also presented.

  • As a reinforcement technique, the application of removable soil nailing has been extended to solve the public grievance of typical soil nailing such as the geotechnical environmental problem and invasion of adjacent land. In the case of removable soil nailing, pullout capacity of the nail depends on the adhesive strength of a fixed socket. Because the existing fixed socket is made from a plastic product, the strength of a socket is less than a steel bar and then the yield failure by abrasion and deformation is occurred on the steel bar-socket contact surface. In this study, therefore, experimental analysis from laboratory test of a removable soil nail equipped with steel socket, improving the adhesive strength of steel bar-socket connection is performed to estimate the increase effect of pullout capacity of a soil nail.

  • This study was performed to estimate the anchorage behavior for Bi Prestressed Concrete Girder(Bicon girder) which could introduce effectively prestressed forces into concrete girders. A bicon girder is manufactured by means of introducing pure bending moment that prestress simultaneously the compressive member(steel bar) and the tensile member(steel tendon). Therefore, the steel bar and the steel tendon must be unified in both ends and compressive and tensile force be offset. Anchorage dimension of 6 test specimens was designed under PTI specification which defined maximum stress and deformation to estimate structural behavior. Test results showed that the stress and the deformation of anchorage were within limits if the steel bar behaviored elastically.

  • The behavior of headed bars in concrete is investigated through 108 pullout tests having an embedment depth of eight times the bar diameter in the M20 concrete mix. Headed bars are designed based on ASTM A970-16 and ACI 318-19 recommendations. The primary parameters used in this study are the steel bar diameter, the steel fibers percentage, and the head shapes. Three failure modes namely, Steel, Concrete-Blowout & Pull-Through failure have been observed. Based on load-deflection curves which are plotted to investigate the bond capacity of headed bars, it is observed that the circular-headed bars have displayed the highest peak load. The comparative analysis shows the smaller differences in the ultimate bond strength between MC2010 (0.89-2.26 MPa) and EN 1992-1-1 (2.32 MPa) as compared to ACI-318-19 (11-22 MPa) which is due to the absence of embedment depth and peak load factor in MC2010 and EN 1992-1-1 respectively.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Column connections using reinforced bar. The parameter of specimens is the area of each reinforced bar (SD40 : D13, D16, D19, D22, D25). The simple tensile experiment is conducted to 5 kinds of specimens. Estimating the load, displacement, and strain from each kind, we compared them to basic elementary type (Flange Type, Basic Type, DPA Type, DPB Type). In each specimen, We can get the yielding load obtained by the theoretical three failure modes which make it possible to predict the experimental results. Actually, through the comparison and analysis, we come to know that the experimental results and theoretical results are nealy the same. Further, we will exert to apply the connections using reinforced bar to construction of high-rise building.

  • The hazard of excavation may be very high until a supporting system is completely installed. In this paper, an excavation method which uses partially reinforced soldier pile($\square$-shape) inserted by a short length steel bar was proposed and simulated by the finite element method. The reinforcing steel bar is moved down along the stage of excavation to reinforce the stiffness of the supporting system. The result of analysis showed that the risk of failure by bending moment or shear stress could be significantly reduced by the reinforcing effect of the steel bar. The proposed method could be applied to the strut-supporting wall or the diaphragm wall.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the engineering characteristics of the R.C circular ring sector plate with various boundary conditions and then to propose a rational and paraical method for application of finite element method to R.C structures. The stiffness matrix of the circular ring sector plate was obtained by using the multi-base coordinate system in which the base-coordinate systems were constructed for each nodal point of the quadrilateral element in order to reflect the complicated boundary conditions conveniently and correctly. The R.C element stiffness matrix was constructed by adding the stiffness coefficients of the steel-bar element into the plate bending element stiffness matrix. Herein, the steel-bar element was treated as the common beam element. Using the above method, the effects of steel-bar can be considered without increasing of the numbers of element and nodal points.
