  • This paper deals with the problem of estimating regression coefficients in nonlinear regression model having random regressor. The sufficient conditions for consistency of the $L_1$-estimator with random regressor are given and discussed in this paper. An example is given to illustrate the application of the main results.

  • Penalized likelihood regression for exponential families have been considered by Kim (2005) through smoothing parameter selection and asymptotically efficient low dimensional approximations. We derive approximate Bayesian confidence intervals based on Bayes model associated with lower dimensional approximations to provide interval estimates in penalized likelihood regression and conduct empirical studies to access their properties.

  • In empirical study for fitting a multiple linear regression model for successive cross-sections data observed on the same set of independent variables over several time periods, one often faces the problem of poor $R^2$, the multiple coefficient of determination, which provides a standard measure of how good a specified regression line fits the sample data.

  • Smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD) penalty is known to satisfy the desirable properties for penalty functions like as unbiasedness, sparsity and continuity. In this paper, we deal with the regression function estimation and variable selection based on SCAD penalized censored regression model. We use the local linear approximation and the iteratively reweighted least squares algorithm to solve SCAD penalized log likelihood function. The proposed method provides an efficient method for variable selection and regression function estimation. The generalized cross validation function is presented for the model selection. Applications of the proposed method are illustrated through the simulated and a real example.

  • Several methods were suggested for constructing a fuzzy relationship between fuzzy independent and dependent variables. This paper reviews the use of the method by minimizing the square of the difference between an observed and a predicted fuzzy number in an ${\alpha}$-level linear regression model. We introduce a new distance between fuzzy numbers on the basis of a mode, a core point and a radius of an ${\alpha}$-level set of a fuzzy number an construct the fuzzy regression model using the proposed fuzzy distance. We also investigate sufficient condition for an equivalence in the ${\alpha}$-level regression model.

  • Frailty estimates from the proportional hazards frailty model often lead us to conjecture the heterogeneity in frailty such that the variance of the frailty varies over different covariate groups (e.g. male group versus female group). For such systematic heterogeneity in frailty, we consider a regression model for the variance components in the proportional hazards frailty model, denoted by the MLFM. However, in many cases, the observed data do not show any statistically significant preference between the homogeneous frailty model and the heterogeneous frailty model. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian model averaging procedure with the reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo which selects the appropriate model automatically. The resulting regression coefficient estimate ignores the model uncertainty from the frailty distribution in view of Bayesian model averaging (Hoeting et al., 1999). Finally, the proposed model and the estimation procedure are illustrated through the analysis of the kidney infection data in McGilchrist and Aisbett (1991) and a simulation study is implemented.

  • Fuzzy regression is used as a complement or an alternative to represent the relation between variables among the forecasting models especially when the data is insufficient to evaluate the relation. Such phenomenon often occurs in seasonal time series data which require large amount of data to describe the underlying pattern. Semiparametric model is useful tool in the case where domain knowledge exists about the function to be estimated or emphasis is put onto understandability of the model. In this paper we propose fuzzy semiparametric support vector regression so that it can provide good performance on forecasting of the seasonal time series by incorporating into fuzzy support vector regression the basis functions which indicate the seasonal variation of time series. In order to indicate the performance of this method, we present two examples of predicting the seasonal time series. Experimental results show that the proposed method is very attractive for the seasonal time series in fuzzy environments.

  • In response surface experiments, a polynomial model is often used to fit the response surface by the method of least squares. However, if the vectors of predictor variables are multicollinear, least squares estimates of the regression parameters have a high probability of being unsatisfactory. Hoerland Kennard have demonstrated that these undesirable effects of multicollinearity can be reduced by using "ridge" estimates in place of the least squares estimates. Ridge regrssion theory in literature has been mainly concerned with selection of k for the first order polynomial regression model and the precision of $\hat{\beta}(k)$, the ridge estimator of regression parameters. The problem considered in this paper is that of selecting k of ridge regression for a given polynomial regression model with an arbitrary order. A criterion is proposed for selection of k in the context of integrated mean square error of fitted responses, and illustrated with an example. Also, a type of admissibility condition is established and proved for the propose criterion.criterion.

  • This paper computes the repurchase index based on statistical modeling. Using the transaction record of a certain product, the repurchase index is obtained by fitting the Poisson regression model. The customers are classified into 5 groups based on the index giving the information about the propensity to repurchase.

  • Distribution-free estimation methods are proposed for slope, $\beta$ in the simple linear regression model. In this paper, we suggest the point estimators using the sequential slope based on sign test and Wilcoxon signed rank test. Also confidence intervals are presented for each estimation methods. Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out to compare the efficiency of these methods with least square method and Theil´s method. Some properties for the proposed methods are discussed.
