  • This paper compares some architectures to achieve the optimized WDM architecture for all optical transport network, the comparison is presented in terms of the number of required wavelength and LT. These architecture types are PPWDM, SHWDM, DHWDM and fully optical WDM. Topology is a static ring network where the routing pattern is fixed and traffic pattern has uniform demand. This paper also proposes an algorithm for the wavelength assignment for a folly optical WDM ring network which has full mesh traffic pattern. The algorithm is based on heuristic algorithm which assigns traffic connections according to their respective shortest path. Traffic described here that is to be passed through can be routed directly within the optical layer instead of having the higher layer to handle it.

  • Monolithic three-dimensional integrated chips (3D ICs) are an emerging technology that offers an integration density that is some orders of magnitude higher than the conventional through-silicon-via (TSV)-based 3D ICs. This is due to a sequential integration process that enables extremely small monolithic inter-tier vias (MIVs). For a monolithic 3D memory, we first explore the static random-access memory (SRAM) design. Next, for digital logic, we explore several design styles. The first is transistor-level, which is a design style unique to monolithic 3D ICs that are enabled by the ultra-high-density of MIVs. We also explore gate-level and block-level design styles, which are available for TSV-based 3D ICs. For each of these design styles, we present techniques to obtain the graphic database system (GDS) layouts, and perform a signoff-quality performance and power analysis. We also discuss various challenges facing monolithic 3D ICs, such as achieving 50% footprint reduction over two-dimensional (2D) ICs, routing congestion, power delivery network design, and thermal issues. Finally, we present design techniques to overcome these challenges.

  • Networks-on-Chip (NoC) is emerging as a practical development platform for future systems-on-chip products. We propose an energy-efficient static algorithm which optimizes the energy consumption of task communications in NoCs with voltage scalable links. In order to find optimal link speeds, the proposed algorithm (based on a genetic formulation) globally explores the design space of NoC-based systems, including network topology, task assignment, tile mapping, routing path allocation, task scheduling and link speed assignment. Experimental results show that the proposed design technique can reduce energy consumption by 28% on average compared with existing techniques.

  • Recently, as the use of real time traffic information of a car navigation system increases rapidly with the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), path search is getting more important. Previous algorithms, however, are mostly for the shortest distance searching and provide route information using static distance and time information. Thus they could not provide the most optimal route at the moment which changes dynamically according to traffic. Accordingly, in this study, Semantic Shortest Path algorithm with Reduction ratio & Distance(SSP_RD) is proposed to solve this problem. Additionally, a routing model based on velocity reduction ratio and distance and a dynamic route link map are proposed.

  • Sensors used in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have mostly limited capacity which affects the performance of their applications. One of the data-gathering methods is to use mobile sinks to visit these sensors so that they can save their limited battery energies from forwarding data packages to static sinks. The main disadvantage of employing mobile sinks is the delay of data collection due to relative low speed of mobile sinks. Since sensors have very limited memory capacities, whenever a mobile sink is too late to visit a sensor, that sensor's memory would be full, which is called a 'memory overflow', and thus, needs to be purged, which causes loss of collected data. In this work, a method is proposed to generate mobile sink tours, such that the number of overflows and the amount of lost data are minimized. Moreover, the proposed method does not need either the sensor locations or sensor memory status in advance. Hence, the overhead stemmed from the information exchange of these requirements are avoided. The proposed method is compared with a previously published heuristic. The simulation experiment results show the success of the proposed method over the rival heuristic with respect to the considered metrics under various parameters.

  • Wireless sensor network (WSN) is considered to be one of the most important research fields for ubiquitous healthcare (u-healthcare) applications. Healthcare systems combined with WSNs have only been introduced by several pioneering researchers. However, most researchers collect physiological data from medical nodes located at static locations and transmit them within a limited communication range between a base station and the medical nodes. In these healthcare systems, the network link can be easily broken owing to the movement of the object nodes. To overcome this issue, in this study, the fast link exchange minimum cost forwarding (FLE-MCF) routing protocol is proposed. This protocol allows real-time multi-hop communication in a healthcare system based on WSN. The protocol is designed for a multi-hop sensor network to rapidly restore the network link when it is broken. The performance of the proposed FLE-MCF protocol is compared with that of a modified minimum cost forwarding (MMCF) protocol. The FLE-MCF protocol shows a good packet delivery rate from/to a fast moving object in a WSN. The designed wearable platform utilizes an adaptive linear prediction filter to reduce the motion artifacts in the original electrocardiogram (ECG) signal. Two filter algorithms used for baseline drift removal are evaluated to check whether real-time execution is possible on our wearable platform. The experiment results shows that the ECG signal filtered by adaptive linear prediction filter recovers from the distorted ECG signal efficiently.

  • In real time applications, due to their effective cost and small size, wireless networks play an important role in receiving particular data and transmitting it to a base station for analysis, a process that can be easily deployed. Due to various internal and external factors, networks can change dynamically, which impacts the localisation of nodes, delays, routing mechanisms, geographical coverage, cross-layer design, the quality of links, fault detection, and quality of service, among others. Conventional methods were programmed, for static networks which made it difficult for networks to respond dynamically. Here, machine learning strategies can be applied for dynamic networks effecting self-learning and developing tools to react quickly and efficiently, with less human intervention and reprogramming. In this paper, we present a wireless networks survey based on different machine learning algorithms and network lifetime parameters, and include the advantages and drawbacks of such a system. Furthermore, we present learning algorithms and techniques for congestion, synchronisation, energy harvesting, and for scheduling mobile sinks. Finally, we present a statistical evaluation of the survey, the motive for choosing specific techniques to deal with wireless network problems, and a brief discussion on the challenges inherent in this area of research.

  • One of the common services of telematics is the car navigation that finds the shortest path from source to target. Until now, some routing algorithms of the car navigation do not consider the real-time traffic information and use the static shortest path algorithm. In this paper, we prosed the method to predict the traffic flow in the future. This prediction combines two methods. The former is an accumulated speed pattern, which means the analysis results for all past speeds of each road by classfying the same day and the same time inteval. The latter is the Kalman filter. We predicted the traffic flows of each segment by combining the two methods. By experiment, we showed our algorithm gave better precise predicition than only using accumulated speed pattern that is used commonly. The result can be applied to the car navigation to support a dynamic shortest path. In addition, it can give users the travel information to avoid the traffic congestion areas.

  • One of the most important factors in the lifetime of WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) is the limited resources and static control problem of the sensor nodes. In order to achieve energy efficiency and network utilities, sensor nodes can be well organized into one cluster and selected head node and normal node by dynamic conditions. Various clustering algorithms have been proposed as an efficient way to organize method based on LEACH algorithm. In this paper, we propose an efficient clustering algorithm using information entropy theory based on LEACH algorithm, which is able to recognize environmental differences according to changes from data of sensor nodes. To measure and analyze the changes of clusters, we simply compute the entropy of sensor data and applied it to probability based clustering algorithm. In experiments, we simulate the proposed method and LEACH algorithm. We have shown that our data balanced and energy efficient scheme, has high energy efficiency and network lifetime in two conditions.

  • We propose efficient mobility management schemes based on pointer forwarding for Proxy Mobile IPv6 Networks(PMIPv6) with the objective to reduce the overall network traffic incurred by mobility management and packet delivery. The proposed schemes are per-user-based, i.e., the optimal threshold of the forwarding chain length that minimizes the overall network traffic is dynamically determined for each individual mobile user, based on the user's specific mobility and service patterns. We demonstrate that there exists an optimal threshold of the forwarding chain length, given a set of parameters characterizing the specific mobility and service patterns of a mobile user. We also demonstrate that our schemes yield significantly better performance than schemes that apply a static threshold to all mobile users. A comparative analysis shows that our pointer forwarding schemes outperform routing-based mobility management protocols for PMIPv6.
