Biped locomotion can be simply modeled as a linear inverted pendulum mode. This model considers only the CG (center of gravity) of the entire system. But in real biped robot systems, the free-leg motion dynamics is not negligible. So if its dynamics is not considered in designing the reference CG motion, it is badly influence to the ZMP(zero moment point) position of the biped robot walking in the sagittal plane. Therefore, we modeled the biped locomotion similar to the linear inverted pendulum mode but considered the predetermined free-leg dynamics. To verify that the proposed biped locomotion is more stable than the linear inverted pendulum mode, we constructed a biped robot simulator and designed a serco controller to track both the reference motion of the free leg and the reference motion of CG of the biped robot using the computed torque control low. And through simulations, we verified that the proposed walking is better in stability than the one based on the linear inverted pendulum mode.

A biped robot in locomotion can be regarded to be kinetically redundant in that the link-chain from its foot on the ground to its swing foot has more degrees of freedom that needed to realize stable bipedal locomotion. This paper proposes a new method to generate a trajectory for bipedal locomotion based on this redundancy, which directly generates a locomotion trajectory at the joint level unlike some other methods such as LIPM (linear inverted-pendulum mode) and GCIPM (gravity-compensated inverted-pendulum mode), each of which generates a trajectory of the center of gravity or the hip link under the assumption of the dominance of the hip-link inertia before generating the trajectory of the whole links at the joint level. For the stability of the trajectory generated in the proposed method, a stability condition based on the ZMP (zero-moment point) is used as a constraint as well as other kinetic constraints for bipedal motions. A 6-DOF biped robot is used to show how a stable locomotion trajectory can be generated in the sagittal plane by the proposed method and to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
This paper proposes a stable locomotion control rule for non-holonomic mobile robot. Stability of the rule is proved through the use of a Liapunov function. We have two controller for locomotion control. One is velocity controller, the other is position controller. The proposed controller is position controller whose input to robot are a reference posture and reference velocities. The major objective of this paper is to propose a control rule to find a reasonable velocity command under a assumption which is velocity controller is ideal controller.

This paper presents a hierarchical fuzzy motion planner for humanoid robots in 3D uneven environments. First, we define both motion primitives and locomotion primitives of humanoid robots. A high-level planner finds a global path from a global navigation map that is generated based on a combination of 2.5 dimensional maps of the workspace. We use a passage map, an obstacle map and a gradient map of obstacles to distinguish obstacles. A mid-level planner creates subgoals that help the robot efficiently cope with various obstacles using only a small set of locomotion primitives that are useful for stable navigation of the robot. We use a local obstacle map to find the subgoals along the global path. A low-level planner searches for an optimal sequence of locomotion primitives between subgoals by using fuzzy motion planning. We verify our approach on a virtual humanoid robot in a simulated environment. Simulation results show a reduction in planning time and the feasibility of the proposed method.
This paper presents a motion planning strategy for legged robots using locomotion primitives in the complex 3D environments. First, we define configuration, motion primitives and locomotion primitives for legged robots. A hierarchical motion planning method based on a combination of 2.5 dimensional maps of the 3D workspace is proposed. A global navigation map is obtained using 2.5 dimensional maps such as an obstacle height map, a passage map, and a gradient map of obstacles to distinguish obstacles. A high-level path planner finds a global path from a 2D navigation map. A mid-level planner creates sub-goals that help the legged robot efficiently cope with various obstacles using only a small set of locomotion primitives that are useful for stable navigation of the robot. A local obstacle map that describes the edge or border of the obstacles is used to find the sub-goals along the global path. A low-level planner searches for a feasible sequence of locomotion primitives between sub-goals. We use heuristic algorithm in local motion planner. The proposed planning method is verified by both locomotion and soccer experiments on a small biped robot in a cluttered environment. Experiment results show an improvement in motion stability.
This paper presents a new multifunctional active guidewire system for medical applications that uses a magnetic microrobot. The study demonstrated that the proposed microrobot system could swim and be controlled under Low-Reynolds-number (Re) environments in blood vessel models. The prototype of the robotic guidewire, which is driven within a three-axis Helmholtz coil system, consists of a guide-wire, spiral blade, drilling tip, and permanent magnet. The spiral-type microrobot showed stable active locomotion between 3 kA/m and 9.1 kA/m under driving frequency up to 70 Hz in a silicone oil (of viscosity 1000 cst). The microrobot produced a maximum moving velocity of $8.08{\times}10^{-3}m/s$ at 70 Hz and 9.1 kA/m. In particular, the robotic guidewire produced 3D locomotion with drilling in the three-axis Helmholtz coil system. We verified active locomotion, towing of guidewire, steering, and drilling of the proposed robotic guidewire system through experimental analyses.

In this paper, we propose an efficient gait trajectory generation method for the static stair climbing of a quadruped robot with mechanism of insectile legs, which has no collision with staris. First, we derive the kinematic and inverse models of a quadruped robot using the algebraic and geometrical methods, respectively. In the proposed method, we generate the stair locomotion trajectory of a sine wave after lifting a leg from the start position, and then determine the coefficient of the generated trajectory to avoid the collision with stairs. In addition, we make the gait sequence for the stable stair locomotion. Finally, we verify the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed stair locomotion method through computer simulations.
Inspired by small insects, which perform rapid and stable locomotion based on body softness and tripod gait, various milli-scale six-legged crawling robots were developed to move rapidly in harsh environment. In particular, cockroach's leg compliance was resembled to enhance the locomotion performance of the crawling robots. In this paper, we investigated the effects of changing leg compliance for the locomotion performance of the small light weight legged crawling robot under various payload condition. First, we developed robust milli-scale six-leg crawling robot which actuated by one motor and fabricated in SCM method with light and soft material. Using this robot platform, we measured the running velocity of the robot depending on the leg stiffness and payload. In result, there was optimal range of the leg stiffness enhancing the locomotion ability at each payload condition in the experiment. It suggests that the performance of the crawling robot can be improved by adjusting stiffness of the legs in given payload condition.

This paper presents reference ZMP trajectory generation and implementation for a biped robot via linear inverted dumbbell model (LIDM), which can consider the effect of external momentum on the center of mass (COM) of robot. Based on a reference ZMP trajectory derived by using LIDM, a base trajectory is proposed not only to make the locomotion of robot similar to that of human but also to facilitate its implementation and tuning. In order to realize a dynamic walking using the proposed trajectory, compliance, impedance and ZMP tracking controllers are adopted together. Extensive experiments show that the proposed locomotion of a biped robot is stable and also, similar to that of human. Further researches on balance recovery of a biped robot will be carried out to guarantee its robust locomotion in combination with the proposed trajectory.

This study presents new scheme for various walking pattern of biped robot under the limitted enviroments. We show that the neural network is significantly more attractive intelligent controller design than previous traditional forms of control systems. A multilayer backpropagation neural network identification is simulated to obtain a learning control solution of biped robot. Once the neural network has learned, the other neural network control is designed for various trajectory tracking control with same learning-base. The main advantage of our scheme is that we do not require any knowledge about the system dynamic and nonlinear characteristic, and can therefore treat the robot as a black box. It is also shown that the neural network is a powerful control theory for various trajectory tracking control of biped robot with same learning-vase. That is, we do net change the control parameter for various trajectory tracking control. Simulation and experimental result show that the neural network is practically feasible and realizable for iterative learning control of biped robot.
