Effects of Polymers on the Cocrystallization of Adefovir Dipivoxil and Suberic Acid (고분자를 이용한 Adefovir Dipivoxil과 Suberic Acid의 공결정 제어)

  • The effects of polymers on the cocrystallization of adefovir dipivoxil (AD) and suberic acid (SUB) were investigated. The polymeric additives in the present study were poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA). When the polymers were added to the solution of AD and SUB, their effects were limited to the morphology and crystallinity of the AD/SUB cocrystal, which could be also achieved without polymeric additives by the excess amount of SUB in the solution or through the solvent-assisted grinding. When the polymers were mixed with AD before adding SUB in the solution, PEG was dramatically more effective at the same amount with possible alteration of the cocrystal structure. Also, PAA completely inhibited the formation of crystals. The present study demonstrated that the effects of polymers on the cocrystallization could be tuned by simply modifying the mixing strategy.

Preparation of Ag/PVP Nanocomposites as a Solid Precursor for Silver Nanocolloids Solution

  • A polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/Ag nanocomposites was prepared by the simultaneous thermal reduction and radical polymerization route. The in situ synthesis of the Ag/PVP nanocomposites is based on the finding that the silver n-propylcarbamate (Ag-PCB) complex can be directly dissolved in the NVP monomer, and decomposed by only heat treatment in the range of 110 to $130^{\circ}C$ to form silver metal. Silver nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution (5 - 40 nm) were obtained, which were well dispersed in the PVP matrix. A successful synthesis of Ag/PVP nanocomposites then proceeded upon heat treatment as low as $110^{\circ}C$. Moreover, important advantages of the in situ synthesis of Ag/PVP composites include that no additives (e.g. solvent, surface-active agent, or reductant of metallic ions) are used, and that the stable silver nanocolloid solution can be directly prepared in high concentration simply by dissolving the Ag/PVP nanocomposites in water or organic solvent.

Study on the expected efficacies of the Asparagi Tuber by analysis of single-medicine prescriptions on the Korean medicinal literatures (한의학 고문헌의 단방용례 분석을 통한 천문동의 기대효능 연구)

  • We referred to twenty-two Korean medicinal literatures for application of a single-medicine prescription using Asparagi Tuber(Asparagus cochinchinensis) to form the groundwork for scientific modernization of Korean medicine. Our study revealed the following. 1. Principle expectant effects of Asparagi Tuber were prolong life; elevation of stamina or activity; improvement of asthenia; remedy of epilepsy, mental disease or convulsions; relief of xerosis; treatment of tumor, abscess or intumescence; extermination of endoparasite; solution of numbness, etc. 2. The records show that 95% of directions are per oral. 3. 38% of the cases, Asparagi Tuber was used without its jacket or core. 4. Alcohol and honey were generally used as solvent and additive. We suggest to perform the further studies for the scientific verification of the expectant effects of Asparagi Tuber and its different efficacy by processing, solvent and additives.

Biochemical Characterization of a Novel Alkaline and Detergent Stable Protease from Aeromonas veronii OB3

  • An organic solvent- and bleach-stable protease-producing strain was isolated from a polluted river water sample and identified as Aeromonas veronii OB3 on the basis of biochemical properties (API 20E) and 16S rRNA sequence analysis. The strain was found to hyper-produce alkaline protease when cultivated on fish waste powder-based medium (HVSP, 4080 U/ml). The biochemical properties and compatibility of OB3 with several detergents and additives were studied. Maximum activity was observed at pH 9.0 and 60℃. The crude protease displayed outstanding stability to the investigated surfactants and oxidants, such as Tween 80, Triton X-100, and H2O2, and almost 36% residual activity when incubated with 1% SDS. Remarkably, the enzyme demonstrated considerable compatibility with commercial detergents, retaining more than 100% of its activity with Ariel and Tide (1 h, 40℃). Moreover, washing performance of Tide significantly improved by the supplementation of small amounts of OB3 crude protease. These properties suggest the potential use of this alkaline protease as a bio-additive in the detergent industry and other biotechnological processes such as peptide synthesis.

Evaluation of the Antioxidant Properties of Pediastrum duplex and Dactylococcopsis fascicularis Microalgae

  • Interest in plant-derived food additives has increased recently, with efforts to identify natural antioxidant sources to replace synthetic antioxidants. This study evaluated the antioxidant effects of organic solvent fractions of 80% methanol extracts from Pediastrum duplex and Dactylococcopsis fascicularis microalgae. Among the solvent fractions tested, the ethyl acetate and n-hexane fractions from P duplex effectively scavenged 79.8% and 74.5% of DPPH free radicals, respectively. The chloroform fraction from D. fascicularis showed the strongest $H_2O_2$ scavenging ability (49.7%). The greatest scavenging of hydroxyl radicals (73.1%) was exhibited by the 80% methanol extract from P duplex. Aqueous residue and ethyl acetate fraction from P duplex provided the strongest nitric oxide scavenging (57.7%) and metal chelating effect (82.1%), respectively. Chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions from P duplex and n-hexane fraction from D. fascicularis exhibited significantly greater inhibition of lipid peroxidation than the commercial antioxidants. These results suggested that P duplex and D. fascicularis microalgae having potential anti oxidative compounds with various properties could be utilized in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Suppression of Co-intercalation on the Carbon Anode by MA Addition in a PC-base Electrolyte

  • Propylene Carbonate (PC) has the interesting properties of being able to dissolve and dissociate lithium salts, thus leading to highly conducting electrolytes even at low temperatures. Moreover, electrolytes that contain PC are stable against oxidation at voltages up to ~5 V. However, it is known that, when lithium is intercalated into graphite in pure PC based electrolytes, solvent co-intercalation occurs, leading to the destruction of the graphite structure. (i.e., exfoliation). The objective of this study was to suppress PC decomposition and prevent exfoliation of the graphite anode by co-intercalation. Electrochemical characteristics were studied using Kawasaki mesophase fine carbon (KMFC) in different 1 M $LiPF_6$/PC-based electrolytes. Electrochemical experiments were completed using chronopotentiometry, cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. From the observed results, we conclude that the MA and $Li_2CO_3$ additive suppressed co-intercalation of the PC electrolyte into the graphite anode. The use of additives, for reducing the extent of solvent decomposition before exfoliation of the graphite anode, could therefore enhance the stability of a KMFC electrode.

  • 유기전자소자는 용액공정을 통한 대량생산이 가능하기 때문에 기존 무기전자소자에 비해 제조비용이 저렴하고 대면적 생산이 가능하며, 유기분자의 본연 특징으로 인해 유연하고 가벼운 소자를 구현할 수 있다. 그러나 무기 반도체에 비하여 현저히 낮은 전하이동도 특성은 유기전자소자의 상용화에 걸림돌이 되고 있다. 따라서 공액고분자의 결정화도, 모폴로지, 분자배향 최적화를 통한 자기조립 박막 제조는 전하이동을 원활히 하기 때문에 유기전자소자의 개발에 필수적이다. 본 기고에서는 유기전자소자의 활성층으로 사용되는 공액고분자의 자기조립을 유도하기 위한 다양한 특성을 갖는 용매 첨가제의 효과에 대해서 알아보고, 특히 첨가제의 용해도 계수가 공액고분자의 자기조립 거동에 미치는 영향에 대해 자세히 논의하고자 한다.

Characterization and Preparation of PEG-Polyimide Copolymer Asymmetric Flat Sheet Membranes for Carbon Dioxide Separation (이산화탄소 분리를 위한 폴리에틸렌글리콜계 폴리이미드 공중합체 비대칭 평판형 분리막의 제조 및 기체 투과 특성평가)

  • In this study, we synthesized polyimide with high carbon dioxide gas transport property using 2,2-bis(3,4-carboxylphenyl) hexafluoropropane, 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine and poly(ethylene glycol) bis(3-aminopropyl) terminated and then we calculated solubility parameter of synthesized polymer and non-solvent phase separation coefficient to determine proper solvent for preparation of asymmetric membrane, also we measured the viscosity of the polymer solution to check polymer contents in membrane solution and prepare asymmetric membrane with $LiNO_3$ additives. The morphology and gas separation property of membrane prepared by phase separation method was confirmed using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microsope and the single gas permeation measurement apparatus. We confirmed that the carbon dioxide permeance of the membrane increased and the selectivity showed little change with decreasing of the volatile solvent contents.

Preparation of solvent-based eco-friendly stone paper (용제기반 친환경 stone paper의 제조)

  • Stone papers made of inorganic filler and plastic polymer do not use pulp, which is the main raw material of existing papers, so they contribute to the preservation of nature and can be used as more eco-friendly materials when they have biodegradability. Since most stone papers are manufactured by hot extrusion, the amount of ceramic fillers and related physical properties are limited to control manufacturing workability. In this study, the stone paper composition was prepared in a liquid form using solvents, so that there was little limitation on the amount of ceramic filler added and it was also easy to add additives to control biodegradability. They were fabricated from eco-friendly raw materials using waste oyster shells as an inorganic filler and (recyclable) PVC materials as an organic binder. After making a solution using common solvents for PVC, inorganic filler and cellulose to impart biodegradability were mixed and processed into sheets to prepare solvent-based stone papers, and their paper properties were evaluated.

  • Licorice Extract and Erythritol, food additives used in korea, are widely used in foods as sweetener. Its application for use in food is regulated by the standard and specification for food additives but official analytical method far determination of these sweetener in food has not been established. Accordingly, we has been carried out to set up analytical method of the glycyrrhizic acid in several foods by the way of thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography glycyrrhizic acid is qualitative anaylsis technique consists of clean-up with a sep-pak $C_{18}$ cartridge, separation of the sweeteners by Silica gel 60 F254 TLC plate using 1-butanol:4Nammonia solution:ethanol (50:20:10) as mobile solvent. Also, the quantitative analysis for glycyrrhizic acid, was performed using Capcell prk $C_{18}$ column at wavelength 254nm and DW:Acetonitrile (62:38 (pH2.5)) as mobile phase. and we has been carried out to set up analytical method of the erythritol in several foods by the way of high performance liquid chromatography. erythritol is qualitative anaylsis technique consists of clean-up with a DW and hexane. The quantitative analysis for erythritol, was performed using Asahipak NH2P-50 column, Rl and DW:Acetonitrile (25:75) as mobile phase. The glycyrrhizic acid results determined as glycyrrhizic acid in 105 items were as follows; N.D$\∼$48.7ppm for 18 items in soy sauce, N.D$\∼$5.3ppm for 12 items in sauce, N.D$\∼$988.93ppm for 15 items in health food, N.D$\∼$180.7ppm for 26 items in beverages, N.D$\∼$2.6ppm for 8 items in alcoholic beverages repectively and ND for 63 items in the ethers. The erythritol results determined as erythritol in 52 items were as follows; N.D$\∼$155.6ppm for 13 items in gm, N.D$\∼$398.1ppm for 12 items in health foods repectively and ND for 45 items in the others.
