  • $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ is prepared through a solid-state reaction between anatase $TiO_2$ and $Li_2CO_3$ for the negative electrode active materials in quick-charging lithium-ion batteries. The small amount of carbon black (0, 0.5, 1.0, and 3.0 wt%) is added for the reduction of powder agglomeration during heat-treatment. As the amount of the added carbon black increases, the tap density of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ powder gradually decreases. Furthermore, the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ powder prepared with 1.0 wt% of carbon black shows the highest sieved fraction at the powder classification by 325 mesh standard sieve. The $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ powders with various contents of carbon black are almost same at the rate capability for the negative electrode materials in lithium-ion batteries.

  • In this study, flexible supercapacitor based on the all solid state electrolyte with PVA (polyvinyl alcohol)-$H_3PO_4$, ionic liquid as a BMIMBF4 (1-buthyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate) and reduced graphene oxide/conductive polymer composite was fabricated and characterized electrochemical properties with function of its flexibility. In order to measure and compare that electrochemical performances (including cyclic voltammetry(CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and galvanostatic charge/discharge,after 0~100th bending test) of prepared flexible supercapacitor based on reduced graphene oxide/conducting polymer composite and all solid state electrolyte, we have conducted press machine with constant pressure ( 0.01/cm2) for $100^{th}$ bending test. As a result, specific capacitance of the flexible supercapacitor was 43.9 F/g which value decreased to 42.0 and 40.1 F/g after 50 and $100^{th}$ bending test, respectively. This result exhibited that decreased electrochemical property of the flexible supercapacitor effected on physical stress on the electrode after repeated bending test. In addition, we have measured that electrode surface morphology by SEM to prove its decreased electrochemical property of the flexible supercapacitor after prolonged bending test.

  • Developing a gate-tunable, scalable, and topologically-protectable supercurrent qubit and integrating it into a quantum circuit are crucial for applications in the fields of quantum information technology and topological phenomena. Here we propose that the nano-hybrid supercurrent transistors, a superconducting quantum analogue of a transistor, made of topological insulator nanowire would be a promising platform for unprecedented control of both the supercurrent magnitude and the current-phase relation by applying a voltage on a gate electrode. We believe that our experimental design will help probing Majorana state in topological insulator nanowire and establishing a solid-state platform for topological supercurrent qubit.

  • As the size of market for electric vehicles and energy storage systems grows, the demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is increasing. Currently, commercial LIBs are fabricated with liquid electrolytes, which have some safety issues such as low chemical stability, which can cause ignition of fire. As a substitute for liquid electrolytes, solid electrolytes are now being extensively studied. However, solid electrolytes have disadvantages of low ionic conductivity and high resistance at interface between electrode and electrolyte. In this study, Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO), one of the best ion conducting materials among oxide based solid electrolytes, is fabricated through RF-sputtering and various electrochemical properties are analyzed. Moreover, the electrochemical properties of LLZO are found to significantly improve with co-sputtered Li2O. An all-solid thin film battery is fabricated by introducing a thin film solid electrolyte and an Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) cathode; resulting electrochemical properties are also analyzed. The LLZO/Li2O (60W) sample shows a very good performance in ionic conductivity of 7.3×10-8 S/cm, with improvement in c-rate and stable cycle performance.

  • In this study, supercapacitor based on the all solid state electrolyte with PVA(polyvinyl alcohol), ionic liquid as a BMIMBF4(1-buthyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate) and activated carbon/Ni-MOF composite was fabricated and characterized its electrochemical properties with function of MOF. In order to analysis and comparison that electrochemical performances [including cyclic voltammetry(CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and galvanostatic charge/discharge test] of prepared supercapacitor based on activated carbon/Ni-MOF composite and all solid state electrolyte. As a result, specific capacitance of the supercapacitor without Ni-MOF was 380 F/g which value decreased to 340 F/g after adding Ni-MOF to activated carbon as a electrode material. This result exhibited that decreased electrochemical property of the supercapacitor effected on physical hinderance in the electrode. In further, it needs to optimization of the Ni-MOF amount (wt%) in the electrode composite to maximize its electrochemical performances.

  • Graphite and carbonaceous materials showed an excellent capability as a negative electrode in Li-ion batteries because Li-ion can be intercalated and de-intercalated reversibly within most carbonaceous materials of layered structure. Also, the electrochemical potential of Li-intercalated carbon anode is almost identical with that of Li metal. In the present study, mesocarbon microbeads(MCMB) were used as anode electrode and its properties of charge/discharge and interfacial reaction with electrolyte were studied by Potentiostat/Galvanostat test, FT-IR analysis, XRD and SEM. The passivation film of solid-state was formed as the interface between electrode and electrolyte as the cell reaction began and, once formed, became thicker with repeated charge/discharge process. Also, the relationship between the passivation film formed at the electrode interface and storage capacity was discussed.

  • Potentiometric biosensor using flow injection analysis system was developed to determine citrate concentration in foods. Biosensor system consisted of sample injector, peristaltic pump, enzyme reactor, carbonate ion selective solid-state electrode, reference electrode, detector, and recorder. Enzyme reactor was prepared with immobilized citrate lyase and oxaloacetate decarboxylase. Carbonate ions produced through enzyme reactions of citrate were potentiometrically detected by ion selective electrode. Optimum conditions for biosensor system were investigated. Interference effect of major sugars and organic acids was less than 5% on citrate biosensor system. Citrate concentrations in fruit juices were determined by biosensor and gas chromatography. No significant difference was observed between two analytical methods. Results indicate citrate biosensor is useful in determining citrate concentration in foods.

  • Pulse electric field induced electron emission from ferroelectrics has been studied with Pb$(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3$ ceramics with varying Zr/Ti ratio from 35/65 to 65/35, Electron emission was proved to be concentrated on the electrode edge by emission profile test and emission capture photographs. The 65/35 composition showed largest emission charge in lowest field and lowest emission threshold field. The emission characteristics are closely dependent on their ferroelectric properties in hysteresis curve. Electron emission charge increases with the polarization charge and emission threshold voltage is dependent on coercive field regardless of their composition. But dielectric constant has little relation with emission property. Electron emission charge increases exponentially with pulse electric field irrespective of composition. On the assumption that the surface potential is linear with the pulse electric field, electron emission can be regarded as a field emission at the electrode edge using Fowler-Nordheim plot of ln$(Q_e/E_{fe})$ to $1/E_{fe}$.

  • Highly proten-conductive elastic composites have been successfully prepared from $H_3PO_4$-doped silica gel and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene block elastic copolymer. In addition solid state electric double-layer capacitors have been fabricated using the composite as an electrolyte and activated carbon powders(ACP) hybridized with the composite as a polrizable electrode. The cyclic voltammogram of the electric double-layer capacitor fabricated demonstrated that electric charge was stored in the elecric double-layer at the interface between the polarizable electrode and the electrolyte. The value of capacitance of the capacitor was 10 F/(gram of total ACP), which was comparable to that of the capacitors using conventional liquid electrolytes.

  • Based on the differential electrode equilibria approach, potentiometric YSZ sensors with semiconducting oxide electrodes for CO detection are developed. To improve the selectivity, sensitivity and response-time of the sensor, our strategy includes (a) selection of an oxide with a semiconducting response to CO, (b) addition of other semiconducting materials, (c) addition of a catalyst (Pd), (d) utilization of combined p- and n-type electrodes in one sensor configuration, and (e) optimization of operating temperatures. Excellent sensing performance is obtained by a novel device structure incorporating $La_2CuO_4$ electrodes on one side and $TiO_2$-based electrodes on opposite substrate faces with Pt contacts. The resulting response produces additive effects for the individual $La_2CuO_4$ and $TiO_2$-based electrodes voltages, thereby realizing an even higher CO sensitivity. The device also is highly selective to CO versus NO with minor sensitivity for NO concentration, compared to a notably large CO sensitivity.
