Social Media News in Crisis? Popularity Analysis of the Top Nine Facebook Pages of Bangladeshi News Media

  • Social media has become a popular source of information around the world. Previous studies explored different trends of social media news consumption. However, no studies have focused on Bangladesh to date, where social media penetration is very high in recent years. To fill this gap, this research aimed to understand its popularity trends during the period. For that reason, this work analyzes 97.67 million page likes and 3.48 billion interaction data collected from nine Bangladeshi news media's Facebook pages between December 2016 to November 2020. The analysis shows that the growth rates of page likes and interaction rates declined during this period. It suggests that the media's Facebook pages are gradually losing their popularity among Facebook users, which may have two more interpretations: Facebook's aggregate appeal as a news source is decreasing to users, or Bangladeshi media's appeal is eroding to Facebook users. These findings challenge the previous results, i.e., Facebook's demand as a news source is increasing with time. We offer four explanations of the decreased popularity of Facebook's news: information overload, exposure to incidental news, users' selective exposure and different aims of using Facebook, and conflict between media agendas and users' interests. Some theoretical and practical significance of the results has been discussed as well.

사회복지사의 소진과정(Burnout Process) 모델 - 직업관련 스트레스 요인, 직무스트레스와 전문직효능성에 의한 소진 경로분석 - (Burnout Process Model of Social Workers: Analysis of the Paths from the Job-related Stressors, Job-stress and Professional Self-efficacy to Burnout)

  • 사회복지사들의 소진결정과정에 영향을 미치는 요인을 조사하고자, 직업과 관련된 8가지 스트레스요인(업무모호성, 업무과중, 문제해결의 어려움, 클라이언트와의 갈등, 수퍼바이저의 지지결여, 기관내 의사소통의 폐쇄성, 관료주의, 무책임성), 4종류의 매개요인(직무스트레스, 전문직역할수행, 기관정책 준수, 클라이언트에 대한 편파성)과 소진의 4구성요인(신체적 탈진, 심리적 탈진, 비인간화, 개인전 성취)으로 이루어진 포괄적인 연구모델을 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 모델은 사회복지사 207명으로부터 수집된 설문조사 자료를 통하여 검증되었다. 경로분석을 사용하여 변인들 간의 구조관계를 설명할 수 있는 최적 이론구조모델이 선정되었다(df=66, $x^2$=63.250, GFI=0.962, CFI=1.00). 자료분석 결과, 소진은 업무모호성과 업무과중, 문제해결의 어려움, 클라이언트와의 갈등, 수퍼바이저의 지지결여, 기관내 의사소통의 폐쇄성 등의 직업관련 스트레스요인에 의해 증가되는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 소진을 결정하는 감정적 경로의 매개변인인 직무스트레스는 전문직 역할수행과 기관정책 준수의 정도를 증가시키며, 소진(신체적 탈진, 심리적 탈진, 비인간화)을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 소진과정의 인지적 경로를 구성하고 있는 전문적 효능성은 전문직역할수행의 정도가 높고 기관 정책준수의 정도 및 클라이언트에 대한 편파성이 낮을 경우 증대되며, 소진을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.

새로운 분류체계를 이용한 수질변화의 경제적 가치 추정 (Valuing the Water Quality Changes in Paldang Watershed: Using New Water Quality Classification Criteria and Indices)

  • 본 연구는 일반인들이 알기 쉬운 새로운 등급기준을 이용하여 팔당호 유출입 물의 수질변화가 지니는 경제적 가치를 추정하였다. 현재 '좋음' 등급인 팔당호 유출입 물이 '약간 좋음' 또는 '보통' 등급의 수질로 악화되면 평균적인 가계의 효용도 매월 5,221원 또는 9,649원 하락할 것이므로, 수도권 가계의 사회적 효용도 연간 4,718억 원 또는 8,720억 원 하락할 것으로 추정되었다. 만일 현재 수질이 '매우 좋음' 등급으로 개선된다면 평균적인 가계의 효용도 매월 3,157원 증가함으로써 수도권에 연간 2,853억 원의 가치상송이 발생할 것으로 추정되었다. 본 연구는 설문조사의 시간제약하에서 이해하기 어려운 환경재 속성들을 이해하고 그 선택문제까지 학습해야 하는 일반 응답자들에게 과도한 정보부하량(information overload)을 주는 경향이 있는 CE(choice experiment) 연구의 한계를 극복하고자 수질 속성에 대하여 보다 알기 쉬운 용어를 사용할 수 있었다는데 의의가 있다고 할 것이다.

An interaction between cognitive ability and personality on the performance of computer-based group idea generation

  • Purpose Among various psychosocial factors, negative social comparison, attention blocking to stimuli, and cognitive interference via information overload are considered most critical in hindering the effective performance improvement of computer-based idea generation. Given that the effect of negative social comparison along with a plausible solution based on the notion of performance feedback and goal setting has been successfully addressed, this study focused on the remaining issues of "attention blocking to stimuli and cognitive interference via information overload" and attempted to find a way to alleviate the effect of such process losses on performance. Design/methodology/approach A 2 × 4 between-subjects design was used, crossing cognitive ability (high and low) and personality (extroversion and introversion). Five subjects per each treatment were randomly selected to make the sample size equal. The group simulator was used to measure individual-level performance. The dependent variables were the quantity of and quality score of ideas. The manner by which these performance measures were operationalized was consistent with prior studies. An additional analysis using the number of diverse ideas was also conducted. Findings Three arguments were made in this study: (1) high cognitive individuals would perform better than low cognitive individuals, (2) extraverted individuals would perform better than introverted individuals, and (3) cognitive ability and personality would interact such that individuals in Q1 would have the highest performance. Cognitive ability had an effect on quality not quantity. Personality had an effect on both quantity and quality. An interaction between cognitive ability and personality was not found due to small sample size despite the use of the group simulator.

안전참여 활동에 대한 직무요구-자원 모형의 적용 및 안전 자기효능감의 조절효과 (Applying the Job Demands-Resources model to safety participation and the moderating effect of safety self-efficacy)

  • This paper reviewed the relationship between job demands/resources and safety participation, and the moderating effect of safety self-efficacy. Based on the responses from 247 employees, the results of multiple regression analysis appeared as follow; 1) job demands factors(role conflict, role ambiguity and role overload) effect negatively on safety participation. 2) job resources factors(autonomy and social support) effect positively on safety participation. 3) safety self-efficacy moderates positively 3 relationships-between role conflict and safety participation, between role ambiguity and safety participation, between social support and safety participation.

일반 간호사의 직무 스트레스 반응에 대한 결정 요인 (A study on the determinants of job stress responses of the staff nurses)

  • Purpose : This paper was attempted to identify the job stress related factors among the staff nurses and to provide the basic data concerning development of stress management program focused on hospitals. Method : The subjects were 309 staff nurses at two general hospitals in Seoul. Data were collected with self-reported questionnaires and analyzed by SPSS-PC+10.0 for descriptive analysis, ANOVA, stepwise multiple regression, factor analysis. Results : The subjects exhibit significantly highest level of 'the participation in decision making factor'. The mean score of 'control coping strategies' was higher than 'avoid coping strategies'. The mean scores of social support and stress responses were high. The main factor that affected the stress responses was 'the job characteristic factor' and it was explained 23.0% out of the total variance of the stress responses. Also, it would be explained 42.6% out of the total variance of the stress responses with 'the control coping strategies, work overload factors, social support, and participation in decision making factors'. Conclusion: For developing the hospital- focused stress management program for staff nurses, 'the participation in decision making factors' and 'the job characteristics' should be considered. Also, the organizational efforts and supports should be required to support and use of 'control coping strategies' of nurses

Load Balancing Strategy for P2P VoD Systems

  • In a P2P (Peer-to-Peer) VoD (video-on-Demand) streaming system, the nodes' load is an important factor which affects the system performance. In the system, some nodes may receive too many requests, which leads to overload. On the other hand, some other nodes may receive too few requests, which leads to low utilization. Therefore, designing a reasonable load balancing strategy is important. However, existing related studies cannot handle this problem effectively, because they don't have an efficient dynamic load information management mechanism, and they don't distinguish the difference of requests when transfer the nodes' load. In this paper, to manage the dynamic load information efficiently, we design a load management table for each node. Based on the load information, we propose a load balancing strategy which uses a request migration algorithm (LBRM). Through simulations, our scheme can handle the load imbalance problem effectively and improve the users' playback fluency.

기러기가족의 분거 경험에 관한 사회교환이론적 고찰 (Separation Experiences of Wild Geese Families from a Social Exchange Perspective)

  • This qualitative study attempts to analyze the separation experiences of wild geese families from a social exchange perspective. The participants of this study were 16 mothers who lived apart from their partners for the purpose of educating their offspring. To collect data, in-depth interviews were conducted with the mothers about the decision-making process and the separation experiences. The results showed that there was a unique educational factor in Korea that affected wild geese families' decision on family separation. Geese families had to face psychological inconvenience caused by negative eyes from society. In addition, the fathers suffered loneliness and had difficulties in doing household chores, and the mothers experienced an overload of child parenting. On the other hand, emotional relationship between the husband and wife was enhanced, and the friendly relationship between a mother and her children was built. The biggest reward from the wild geese families turned out to be the educational achievement of their children.

SNS에서의 사용자 피로감의 선행 및 결과 요인과 습관의 조절효과에 관한 실증연구 (Empirical Study on Antecedents and Consequences of Users' Fatigue on SNS and the Moderating Effect of Habit)

  • The development of Social Network Service (SNS) has brought many positive changes to the ways people communicate, interact and share information. However, using the SNS does not always leads to in a positive results, particularly when it is addictively used. In fact, the addictive use of SNS results in many negative effects in our society. Recently, SNS users feel negative emotions such as expecially stress and fatigue while using SNS. Thus, the purpose of this study is to empirically examine antecedents of user fatigue on SNS, which can be explained by the degree of Individual, environment and SNS characteristics. This study also examines consequences of user fatigue on SNS. Lastly, we examine the moderating effects of Habit among SNS fatigue, barrier of living and task performance decline. The data for empirical analysis were collected 401 responses on SNS users in Korea. The results of this study are as follows; First, reputation perception, loneliness, unwanted relation, privacy concern, information overload, social presence and interaction are significantly related to SNS fatigue. Second, SNS fatigue, barrier of living and Task performance decline are significantly related to discontinuous usage intention. Third, the moderating effect of Habit of SNS using is found in the relationship among SNS fatigue, barrier of living and task performance decline. Based on the results of this study, Theoretical and practical suggestions were discussed.

소셜네트워크서비스(Social Network Service) 사용의 스트레스와 사용중단의도에 관한 연구 (A study on the Stress of Using Social Networking Services and Its Discontinuance Intention)

  • 정보통신기술들(information and communication technology: ICT)의 진화는 우리의 의사소통과 커뮤니케이션 문화를 변모시키며 사이버커뮤니케이션 시대로의 촉진을 유인하고 있다. ICT 발달에 따라 '퍼스널'하면서도 사회적 연결과 소통을 강화시킨 '소셜'의 융합이 촉진되고 있으며, 그 중심에 소셜네트워크서비스(social network service: SNS)가 있다. SNS는 개방성, 확장성, 실시간성 등과 같은 발달된 기술을 배경으로 우리생활에 중요한 영역으로 자리매김하고 있지만, 예기치 못했던 부작용으로 사회적 우려를 낳고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 SNS스트레스를 발생시키는 요인인 스트레서(stressor)를 파악하고 사용중단의도에 미치는 영향을 실증하는 것을 주요목적으로 하였다. 연구결과, '정보과부하', '사생활침해', '사용불안', '사용복잡', '빠른 변화속도'가 SNS스트레스 영향요인으로 나타났다. 그리고 SNS스트레스는 사용중단의도에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구는 개인적 차원의 테크노스트레스 및 SNS사용중단의도에 관한 논의를 확장시키고 실무적 가이드라인을 제공한다는 점에서 의의를 찾을 수 있다.
