In the design of ductile moment-resisting frames (DMRFs) following the strong column-weak beam dsign philosophy, it is desirable that the joint and column remain essentially elastic in order to insure proper energy dissipation and lateral stability of the structure. The joint has been identified as the "weak link" in DMRFs because any stiffness or strength deterioration in this region can lead to substantial drifts and the possibility of collapse due to P-delta effects. Moreover, the engineer is faced with the difficult task of detailing an element whose size is determined by the framing members, but which must resist a set of loads very different from those used in the design of the beams and columns. Four 2/3-scale beam-column-slab joint assemblies were designed according to existing code requirements of ACI 318-89, representing interior joints of DMRFs with reinforced high strength concrete. The influence on aseismic behavior of beam-column joints due to monolithic slab, has been investigated.estigated.

In the present study, design methodologies for effective width of slabs in slab-column connections were evaluated in comparison with the experimental results on the full-scale slab-column connections. The design methodologies are as follows: the methodology proposed by Jacob S. Grossman and the methodology proposed by Choi & Song. The former does not predict the stiffness change of the slab-column connection due to the change in the column section shape and the latter overestimates the stiffness when edge length of the column section in the loading direction is long. Accordingly, the equation to calculate the effective width of slabs should be modified to reflect the effect of the change in the column section shape.

Precast large panel structures have various connection system such as the horizontal slab-to-wall connection, the vertical wall to wall connection, horizontal slab-to-slab connection, etc. Horizontal connection is connected by vertical tie bars, and vertical joint is connected loop bars and shear keys. The basic function is equalized deformations on later forces and the entire wall panel assembly acts as monolithic actions. Under lateral load some slip occurs in almost vertical connections. The shape and detail of precast connections are very important to the monolithic behavior of overall structures. The paper is a study on the design method and new elasto-plastic analysis of the connections by rigid-bodies spring model.
Recently, railway has been pointed to the efficiency of transportation, rapid transit, and comfortable train ride. In the case of domestic situation, both rapid transit railway and existing railway have been operated in higher speed and the construction of railway near the city building has been increased as well. Because of the rapid transit system and heavy railway, the noise and vibration of railway has been increased so that the strong standards in terms of environmental matter should be required. Therefore, the solution to avoid environmental matters becomes one of the most important factor in constructing railway. In this study, floating slab system which is one of the solution to avoid noise and vibration in railway has been introduced, and the foreign technology and the trend of this business has been investigated. In addition, the method of conceptual design and construction of floating slab system according to the isolator has been introduced.

Finite element method and Taguchi method were used to reduce the floor impact vibration of the reinforced concrete slab in the apartment buildings. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab, and there is a high linear relation between floor impact vibration and sound. The tables of orthogonal arrays were used for finite element analysis with 5 factors related to slab shape parameters and its results were analyzed by statistical method. The most effective factor to reduce the floor impact vibration was the length of living/kitchen room and the floor impact vibration was predicted by 30% reduction in the acceleration peak by the optimal design values of the factors.

Recently the construction of stations under railway lines and railway sections passing through central area of cities are increasing, calling for an urgent establishment of countermeasures against railway vibration and its subsequent second-phase noise. Of technology developed up to now, the most efficient countermeasure is the floating slab track, a track system isolated from the sub-structure by springs. Unfortunately, however, the system design technology and technology for key components have not yet developed in Korea. As such, in this study, the analysis and design technology of floating slab track and its vibration isolator technology can be achieved. In preparation for future demands, it is expected to raise awareness for the need of technology self-support and to make a meaningful contribution to mitigating vibration and noise produced by the next-generation high-speed railway.
A new type of moment-resisting bolted connection was developed for use in composite steel- concrete construction to connect composite open section steel beams to concrete filled steel square tubular columns. The connection was made possible using anchored blind bolts along with two through bolts. It was designed to act compositely with the in-situ reinforced concrete slab to achieve an enhanced stiffness and strength. The developed connection was incorporated in the design of a medium rise (five storey) commercial building which was located in low to medium seismicity regions. The lateral load resisting system for the design building consisted of moment resisting frames in two directions. A major full scale test on a sub-assembly of a perimeter moment-resisting frame of the model building was conducted to study the system behaviour incorporating the proposed connection. The behaviour of the proposed connection and its interaction with the floor slab under cyclic loading representing the earthquake events with return periods of 500 years and 2500 years was investigated. The proposed connection was categorized as semi rigid for unbraced frames based on the classification method presented in Eurocode 3. Furthermore, the proposed connection, composite with the floor slab, successfully provided adequate lateral load resistance for the model building.

An experimental study on the structural behavior of connection types between approach slab and integral abutment has been done for three typical bar connections. Typical hinge style reinforcing bar detail for its connection is preferred in order to accommodate rotation of the approach slab among engineers. However, the straight horizontal bars can be used as connection detail accomodate structural capacity. Total six specimens with three types of rebar detail are tested for direct tensile and bending load. The characteristic structural behaviors are carefully monitored and all the strain gauge data obtained are analyzed. It is shown that the structural performance of all the specimens well exceed its design allowance. Several design suggestions are given based on careful reviews on the experiment.

Concrete surfaces have weak surface strength due to bleeding and laitance, and problems such as peeling, cracking, and cracking may occur. In particular, underground parking lots can be said to be more vulnerable to peeling, breaking, and cracking if excessive loading of materials and equipment movement are not managed at the initial age after placing of concrete. Cracks, peeling, and cracking problems in slab concrete in underground parking lots of apartments can lead to leakage problems and affect finishing materials constructed on top of topping concrete, reducing the performance required for waterproof materials. Therefore, in this study, the bleeding and surface strength according to the standard of topping concrete and the use of admixture were reviewed to solve the crack, peeling, and cracking problems among the types of defects in underground parking lot slab concrete. As a result, it was derived that the optimal concrete compressive strength is 30MPa or more, and it is a reasonable performance design method to prohibit the substitution of admixtures.
