The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of electrode placement on procaine iontophoresis. Thirty-three healthy students with an age range of 19 to 34 years, were participated in this study. The subjects were randomly assigned into 3 groups. Each subjects received iontophoresis on the proximal 1/3 of volar surface of dominant forearm with soft cotton pad($3.5{\times}3.5cm$) soaked in 2 ml of 4% procaine hydrochloride (pH 5.1) at 4 mA for 10 minutes(total current 40 mA min) of anodal DC. In transversal electrode placement(TEP) group, dispersive electrode was placed on the proximal 1/3 of dorsal surface of the forearm. In longitudinal electrode placement (LEP) group and control group, dispersive electrode were placed on the distal 1/3 of volar surface of the forearm. After procaine iontophoresis, duration of anesthesia were evaluated at five minutes intervals on five random locations in the iontophoretically area using a 21-gauge sterile hypodermic needle pressed with 1 mm invagination until return the sharp pin-pricking pain sensation. The data were ana lysed with one-way ANOVA to determine signific~nt differences between groups. The results showed significantly differences in the local anesthetic duration between the 3 groups(p<0.001). The anesthetic durations of TEP group and LEP group were significantly longer when compared with control group(p<0.05). Anesthetic durations of TEP group and LEP group were not significantly difference, but anesthetic duration of LEP group tends to longer than TEP group. In view of these results, clinicians should consider the electrode placement method when performing the iontophoresis.
Stylopine is a major component of the leaf of Chelidonium majus L. (Papaveraceae), which has been used for the removal of warts, papillomas and condylomas, as well as the treatment of liver disease, in oriental countries. Stylopine per se had no cytotoxic effect in unstimulated RAW 264.7 cells, but concentration-dependently reduced nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E$_2$ (PGE$_2$), tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-$\alpha$) and interleukin-1$\beta$(IL-1$\beta$), and the IL-6 production and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) activity caused by the LPS stimulation. The levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and COX-2 protein expressions were markedly suppressed by stylopine in a concentration dependent manner. These results suggest that stylopine suppress the NO and PGE$_2$ production in macrophages by inhibiting the iNOS and COX-2 expressions. These biological activities of stylopine may contribute to the anti-inflammatory activity of Cheli-donium majus.

This report is about the cosmeceuticals usage analysis of actual condition and purchasing behavior of female undergraduates. I suggest the methods for the sustainable improvement of cosmeceuticals that will satisfy needs of more customers through market segmentation. The subjects of this study were 340 undergraduates of selected 2 women's Universities in Seoul. 300 replies among the total distibuted questionnaires were analyzed with SPSS WIN 15.0 Statistics program. Through the study, it appears that the most female undergraduates use cosmeceuticals and the usage of cosmeceuticals is to resolve their skin problems. The most popular places for the purchase of cosmeceuticals are department stores and the most important consideration on purchases is the effectiveness of products. It is discovered that sunscreens are the most used cosmeceuticals.
In order to clarify the Gosambaeksunpibokhap-bang(GBBB)'s therapeutic possibility on atopic dermatitis (AD), influences of GBBB on the changes of various immune-related factors and histological changes in NC/Nga mice were evaluated. Experimental results are as follows. Sign of recovery from AD was observed in GBBB treated group with naked eye test. The ratio of white blood cells, neutrophil, lymphocytes, monocyte in blood were decreased to 54%, 63%, 57% and 86% respectively in the GBBB group. IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, Histamine and IgE were significantly decreased to 40%, 80%, 62%, 61% and 57% respectively in the GBBB group. H&E staining showed thickness of epidermis and dermis were decreased by GBBB and inhibited the infiltration of lymphocytes. On the basis of these results, GBBB was confirmed that the possibility as an AD treatment applied externally to the skin. In the further study, immune control mechanism of GBBB will be demonstrated through the additional molecular biological research.

In this study, sequential cross-linked collagen gels were successfully prepared with collagen, which is biomaterial, and acrylamide (AAm), which is a synthetic monomer. The elastic moduli (E) of cross-linked collagen gels were increased from 1.5 to 3.0 kPa by varying of AAm concentrations. In addition, human dermal fibroblasts were encapsulated into the porous pores introduced into the gels, and cell growth and behavior were investigated. Increasing E of the gels led to decreases in cell growth rate, while the cellular glycosaminoglycan (GAG) production level was elevated. Overall, the growth and cellular activity of skin cells were influenced by the extracellular matrix properties of the collagen gels. In conclusion, these results will be highly useful for designing reconstructive skins and various tissue engineering researches.

Scoparone is a major component of the shoot of Artemisia capillaris (Compositae), which has been used for the treatment of hepatitis and biliary tract infection in oriental countries. In the present study we observed that, scorparone exhibited no cytotoxic effect in unstimulated macrophages, but reduced the release of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2\;(PGE_2)$ upon stimulation by IFN-${\gamma}$/LPS or LPS. The inhibitory effects were found to be in conjuction with the suppression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in IFN-${\gamma}$/LPS stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Moreover, scoparone also attenuated the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$, interleukin (IL)-$1{\beta}$ and IL-6 in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. These results suggest that scoparone decreases the production of the inflammatory mediators such as NO and $PGE_2$ in macrophages by inhibiting iNOS and COX-2 expression.
Prunus sargentii of Rosaceae familiy, has been reported to have radical scavenging activity and anti-inflammatory effect. On these facts, this research was conducted to evaluate pharmaceutical activities of the bark extracts P. sargentii. Free radical scavenging activities of fraction (Fr) -5${\sim}$10 isolated from P. sargentii was higher than 80% respectively at 10ppm. The superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity of Fr-5, 9 were about 97, 84%, respectively at 1,000 ppm. Xanthine oxidase inhibitory effect of Fr-9, 10 were about 75, 78%, respectively at 1,000 ppm. The tyrosinase inhibitory effect related to skin-whitening was 72, 68% in Fr-2, 9 isolated from Prunus sargentii R. at 1,000 ppm. Hyaluronidase inhibition activity related to the anti-inflammation effect was 98% for Fr-8 at 500 ppm. Isolation of the methanol soluble fraction from P. sargentii yielded two major phenol compounds, (-)-epicatechin and taxifolin. The structure of the compound was certainly determined by chemical analyses, as well as NMR and Mass spectroscopy. The present study was carried out in a search for new cosmetic material from the bark from P. sargentii. and, (-)-epicatechin and taxifolin were isolated as active principles. So P. sargentii R. methanolic extracts may be used for the cosmetic material.
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between body mass index (BMI), satisfaction of perceived somatotype, and eating disorder of 133 female college students from Gyeong-gi province. The average weight is $55.3{\pm}8.8kg$, and the BMI is categorized into three groups: underweight, normal weight, and overweight. In terms of the satisfaction for perceived somatotype, 58.6% of the total respondents replied "unsatisfied," which consists of 14% of the underweight group, 37.6% of the normal weight group, and 6.8% of the overweight group. This reveals that the negative association between the satisfaction levels of perceived somatotype and BMI in the normal weight group is statistically significant (p<0.001). Among three eating disorder scores, the first factor, the drive for thinness, shows significant difference (p<0.005) among groups with 2.82 points in the underweight group, 3.38 points in the normal weight group, and 3.86 points in the overweight group; such result shows that there is a drive for being skinny even within the underweight group. Second, the satisfaction levels of perceived somatotype type shows significant dissatisfaction among all groups with 3.41 points in the underweight group, 4.15 points in the normal weight group and 4.73 points in the overweight group. Third, the bulimia degree reveals a significant difference within each group, 2.15 points in the underweight group, 2.33 points in the normal weight group, and 2.78 points in the overweight group. Overall, more than half of the female college students are dissatisfied with their body shapes despite the fact that they are under or within the normal weight. In addition, the drive for being skinny and dissatisfaction levels of perceived somatotypes appear to be significantly higher with higher BMI levels.
We investigated the microstructure and morphological characteristics of microplastics added to rinse off cosmetics by scanning electron microscope. The size of the microplastic was in a wide range of sizes, from $250{\mu}m$ to 1.5mm in diameter. The small microplastics were in the shape of elongated particles and the large microplastics were cuboidal. Most cubic microplastics were observed in the form of squares or rectangles. The surface of the cubic microplastic was smoothly observed without protruding portions, but irregularly many gaps were formed. The gap between openings was measured from about $5{\mu}m$ to $20{\mu}m$. It has not been confirmed that these gaps are formed from the surface of the microplastic to the inside there of.

Detection of estrus is an essential factor as a method of successful breeding in the sow. As increasing the adaption of the information and communication technology (ICT) into swine industry, this study focuses on a possibility and quantification of standing time, vulva and body temperature as methods of estrus detection, comparing each time and temperature in estrus and non-estrus period, and analyzing each success rate of new and existing methods. Ultrasonic sensor array and digital infrared thermography were used to evaluate whether new methods such as standing time and number, and vulva and skin temperature can be replaced, or these methods can be quantifiable in estrus period. Ultrasonic sensor array was installed beside the stall and digital infrared thermography was placed in the rear of sow to collect the dates of sow in estrus and non-estrus period. This study showed total standing time, number and number over 10 minutes, and vulva temperature of the sow in estrus period were increased (p < 0.05) compared with those of sow in non-estrus period, respectively. Detection of estrus using standing time and vulva temperature tended (p = 0.06) to increase the success rate when artificial insemination (AI) was performed. In conclusion, standing time and vulva temperature increased when estrus happened. Success rate of AI of sow using these methods showed an increasing trend. Therefore, existing method using the naked eye can be replaced to new method such as vulvar temperature and standing time when detecting the estrus.
