  • Organic monolayers were fabricated onto Au(l l l) substrate by self-assembly method using dipyridinium. Also, organic single molecule in the organic monolayers was selected to measure the current-voltage (I-V) curves by using the ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy (UHV-STM). The organic molecule used in the experiment was dipyridinium dithioacetate, which contains thiol functional group and can be self-assembled easily onto Au(l l l) substrate. The concentration of dipyridinium dithioacetate for self-assembly procedure was I [mM/L]. To confirm the formation of self-assembled mono layers (SAMs), the differences of thickness of the self-assembled organic monolayers were observed by using an ellipsometer, and the morphology and I-V curves of the SAMs were investigated by using UHV-STM. The applied voltages were from -2 [V] to +2 [V], temperature was 300 [K]. The vacuum for measuring current of the organic single molecule was 6 $\times$ 10$^{-8}$ [Torr]. As a result, properties of the negative differential resistance (NDR) in constant voltage were found.

  • One hundred and three isolates of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae in Korea were evaluated for their virulence on four near-isogenic lines (NILs) containing a single resistance gene, and Korean differential varieties. The resistant gene backgrounds of Cheongcheongbyeo, Pungsanbyeo, Hangangchalbyeo, Milyang42 were not completely understood and they were not suited for the classification of X. oryzae pv. oryzae. Four NILs, IRBB101, IRBB103, IRBB105, and IRBB107 were difference for characterizing races of X. oryzae pv. oryzae because they have a single resistance gene. These NILs may be useful differential set in examining pathogenic races of X. oryzae pv. oryzae in Korea. Based on the virulence of 103 isolates to new differential varieties, they were classified into 3 races.

  • This paper describes novel bootstrapped CMOS differential logic family operating at near-Vth supply voltage. The proposed logic family provides improved switching speed by utilizing voltage bootstrapping for the supply voltage approaching device thresholds. The circuit is configured as differential structure having single bootstrapping capacitor, minimizing area overhead and providing complete logic composition capability. A 64-bit adder designed using the proposed technique in a 0.18um CMOS process provides up to 79% improvement in terms of power-delay product as compared to the conventional adder designed with DCVS.

  • In this paper, optical noise is reduced by a differential detector, which is composed of a beam splitter and two photodiodes whose spectral responses are different each other. In this configuration, the automatic gain control circuit is not required for noise cancellation because the noise intensities at the two photodiodes are kept equal by a beam splitter. The signal to noise ratio in a differential detector with a beam splitter was improved to be 14 ㏈ higher than in a single photodiode with optical filtering.

  • The performance of a 1-bit DAC depends on that of the analog circuits. The mixed SC-CT (switched capacitor-continuous time) architecture is an effective design methodology for the analog circuits. This paper Proposes a new buffer scheme for the 1-bit digital-to-analog subconverter and a new SF-DSC(smoothing filter and differential-to-sig le converter) which performs both the smoothing filter and the differential-to-single convertor simultaneously.

  • The impact of optical receiver configuration on in-band crosstalk-induced penalty has been investigated in both theoretical and experimental analyses, for differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) and differential quadrature phase-shift keying (DQPSK) signals. Previously it has been shown that DPSK signals are ~6 dB more tolerant to in-band crosstalk than on-off keying (OOK) signals. However, we find that the tolerance difference between the two signals is reduced to ~3 dB when the decision threshold of the receiver is optimized to minimize the bit-error rate for each signal. Then we derive simple equations for the in-band crosstalk-induced penalty in DPSK and DQPSK signals with two different optical receiver configurations: balanced and single-ended direct-detection receivers. We confirm that the penalties obtained from our simple equations agree well with the measured results.

  • A low noise and low power RF front-end for 5.8 GHz DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) receiver is presented. The RF front-end is composed of a single-to-differential two-stage LNA and a Gilbert down-conversion mixer. In order to remove an external balun and 5.8 GHz LC load tuning circuit, a single-to-differential LNA with capacitive cross coupled pair is proposed. The RF front-end is fabricated in a 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process and draws 7.3 mA from a 1.2 V supply voltage. It shows a voltage gain of 40 dB and a noise figure (NF) lower than 4.5 dB over the entire DSRC band.

  • We propose 8.2-GHz band radar RFICs for an 8 × 8 phased-array frequency-modulated continuous-wave receiver developed using 65-nm CMOS technology. This receiver panel is constructed using a multichip solution comprising fabricated 2 × 2 low-noise amplifier phase-shifter (LNA-PS) chips and a 4ch RX front-end chip. The LNA-PS chip has a novel phase-shifter circuit for low-voltage operation, novel active single-to-differential/differential-to-single circuits, and a current-mode combiner to utilize a small area. The LNA-PS chip shows a power gain range of 5 dB to 20 dB per channel with gain control and a single-channel NF of 6.4 dB at maximum gain. The measured result of the chip shows 6-bit phase states with a 0.35° RMS phase error. The input P1 dB of the chip is approximately -27.5 dBm at high gain and is enough to cover the highest input power from the TX-to-RX leakage in the radar system. The gain range of the 4ch RX front-end chip is 9 dB to 30 dB per channel. The LNA-PS chip consumes 82 mA, and the 4ch RX front-end chip consumes 97 mA from a 1.2 V supply voltage. The chip sizes of the 2 × 2 LNA-PS and the 4ch RX front end are 2.39 mm × 1.3 mm and 2.42 mm × 1.62 mm, respectively.

  • An enhancement of the c-axis differential conductance around the zero-bias voltage near the superconducting transition temperature $T_{c}$ has been observed in $Au/Bi_2$$Sr_2$$CaCu_2$$O_{8+x}$ junctions. We attribute such an enhancement to the Andreev reflection (AR) between the surface Cu-O bilayer with suppressed superconductivity and the next superconducting Cu-O bilayer. The continuous evolution of the differential conductance, from gap like depression to an AR-like peak structure, around the zero-bias voltage points to weakening of the barrier strength of the nonsuperconducting layer between adjacent Cu-O bilayers as temperature approaches $T_{c}$ from below. The peak structure disappeared just below the bulk $T_{c}$ value of underdoped Bi2212 single crystals, whereas it survived up to ~1 K above $T_{c}$ in Junctions prepared on slightly overdosed crystals. According to a recently proposed theoretical consideration, a wider temperature range of the AR a bone $T_{c}$ is expected in the underdoped regime when phase-incoherent preformed pairs emerge in the pseudogap state. Our result is in contradiction to the preformed pair scenario. scenario.o.

  • In this paper, we reduced the optical noise interference in a visible light communication system using two color LEDs. In the transmitter, the original and the inverted signals of the transmitted data modulated a red LED and a blue LED, respectively. In the receiver, a differential detector which is composed of two photodetectors and an optical red filter detected the mixed signal radiated from the two LEDs. In an environment that the optical noise from a fluorescent lamp exists, the signal-to-noise ratio in this system was improved by about 20dB compared to that in the conventional system which uses a single LED and a single photodetector.
