The characteristics of laminar free jet flow with having applied AC electric fields have been investigated experimentally. A single electrode configuration was adopted such that electric fields were applied directly to nozzle and thus the surrounding could be an infinite ground. The experimental results showed that the jet flow with AC was modified significantly. At a certain axial distance, the laminar fuel stem was broken down and subsequently it was separated into three parts when AC electric fields were applied over a certain voltage in a range of frequencies less than 120 Hz. The breakdown point was measured by varying applied AC voltage and frequency. The effect of applying electric fields to jet flow was discussed in detail.
The CFD simulation of diesel spray tip penetrations were compared with 0-D simulation for experimental data obtained with common rail injection system. The simulated four injection patterns include single, pilot and split injections. The CFD simulation of the spray penetration over these injection patterns was performed using the KIVA-3V code, which was implemented with both the standard KIVA spray and original gas jet sub-models. 0-D simulation of the spray tip penetration with time-varying injection profiles was formulated based on the effective injection velocity concept as an extension of steady gas jet theory. Both the CFD simulation of the spray tip penetration with the standard KIVA spray model and 0-D simulation matched better with the experimental data than the results of the gas jet model for the entire fuel injection patterns.
Among various wet cleaning methods, megasonic and jet spray gained their popularity in single wafer cleaning process for the efficient removal of particulate contaminants from the wafer surface. In the present study, we evaluated these two cleaning methods for particle removal efficiency (PRE) and pattern damage on the aluminum layered wafer surface. Also the effect of $CO_2$ dissolved water in jet spray cleaning is assessed by measuring PRE. It is observed that the jet spray cleaning process is more effective in terms of PRE and pattern damage compared to megasonic cleaning and the mixing of $CO_2$ in the water during jet sprays further increases the PRE. We believe that the outcome of the present study is useful for the semiconductor cleaning process engineers and researchers.
Fundamental experiments with single row heat exchanger were conducted for the purpose of validating new defrosting method using jet impingement. The coolant temperature were varied from 83 to 250 K. We used the jet periodically, once in 50 second and the duration of the jet is 0.1 second. The effect of the coolant temperature in the effectiveness of the jet defrosting was investigated.
In response to the industrial needs for automated handling of very thin solar cell wafers, this paper presents the design concept for the individual wafer separation from the stacked wafers by utilizing continuous water jet. The experimental apparatus for automated wafer separation was constructed and it includes the water jet system and the microprocessor controlled wafer stack advancing system. Through a series of tests, the performance of the proposed design is quantified into the success rate of single wafer separation and the rapidity of processing wafer stack. Also, the inclination angle of wafer equipped cartridge and the water jet flowrate are found to be important parameters to be considered for process optimization. The proposed design shows the concept for fast and efficient processing of wafer separation and can be implemented in the automated manufacturing of silicon based solar cell wafers.

The optimal conditions for applications of an atmospheric pressure plasma (APP) jet for the inactivation of Salmonella Typhimurium in chicken breast and pork loins were investigated. APP jet treatment for 10 min (versus 5 minutes) showed a higher inactivation of S. Typhimurium in an agar plate, with the best effect at a distance of 20 mm. A treatment on both sides (both-side treatment) for 2.5 + 2.5 min showed a greater inhibition on S. Typhimurium growth compared to single-side treatment for 5 min, with reduction levels of 0.66 log CFU/g in chicken breast and 1.33 log CFU/g in pork loin, respectively. However, there was no significant difference between single-side treatment for 10 min and both-side treatment for 5 + 5 min in chicken breasts and pork loin samples. In conclusion, APP jet treatment conditions, including distance, time, and direction, may affect the inactivation efficiency of S. Typhimurium. In this experiment, distance of 20 mm and both-side treatment were the best conditions. Therefore, the optimal APP jet treatment conditions were evaluated to maximize its practical efficiency.
Air curtains are widely used in commercial and public buildings to replace solid doors where traffic of people is predicted. At doorways where the solid door is open continuously or intermittently, an air curtain may be installed in order to reduce the flow of heat and moisture from the enclosed space to the outside. The purpose of this paper is to predict isolation performance of the single-sided air curtain when the wind is blowing. For the study, a numerical simulation is used to find the influence of various jet velocities on the efficiency of the single-sided air curtain device which is mounted at the side of the doorway. The isolation performance of the single-sided air curtain is evaluated by sealing efficiency which provides the assessment of the infiltration air ratio. According to the result of this study, the single-sided air curtain has lower sealing efficiency than downward-blowing air curtain. Therefore, for energy conservation in heating space, the single-sided air curtain is not recommended because of its low effectiveness.
The water jet impingement cooling is one of the techniques to remove the heat from high heat flux equipments. Local heat transfer of the confined water impinging jet and the effect of nozzle collar to enhance the heat transfer are investigated in the fee surface jet and submerged jet. Boiling is initiated from the farthest downstream and increase of the wall temperature is reduced with developing boiling, forming the flat temperature distributions. The reduction in the nozzle-to-surface distance fur H/W$\le$1 causes significant increases and distribution changes of heat transfer. Developed boiling reduces the differences of heat transfer for various conditions. The nozzle collar is employed at the nozzle exit. The distances from heated surface to nozzle collar, Hc are 0.25W, 0.5W and 1.0W. The liquid film thickness is reduced and the velocity of wall jet increases as decreased spacing of collar to heated surface. Heat transfer is enhanced fur region from the stagnation to x/W$\~$8 in the free surface jet and to x/W$\~$5 in the submerged jet. For nucleate boiling region of further downstream, the heat transfer by the nozzle collar is decreased in submerged jet comparing with higher velocity condition. It is because the increased velocity by collar is de-accelerated downstream.
