  • Lattice steel towers for overhead transmission lines have been replaced by tubular steel poles due to the visual impact of large and complex shape of truss type. Demand for tubular steel poles consisting of a single frame member continues to grow because of its advantages such as visual minimization, architectural appeal and minimal site consumptions. However, there are some constraints on the transportation and construction. As the diameter of tower base has been enlarged, it may exceed minimum height limit required to pass the tunnel in case of land transportation. Also, in a narrow place where it is not easy to secure the installation areas such as mountainous places, there might be some areas wherein it must secure a wide working space so that large vehicles and working cranes will be allowed to enter. In this paper, we presented a vertical separated tubular steel pole, which is a new type of support that can be implemented for general purpose such as mountainous areas or narrow areas to improve the issues raised by breaking away from the conventional design and fabrication methods. Technical approaches for overcoming the limit of the cross-sectional size is to separate and modularize the cross-section of the tubular steel pole designed with a size that cannot be carried or assembled, and to lighten it with a weight capable of being transported and assembled in a narrow space or mountainous area. As a result of this research, it will be possible to enter small and medium sized vehicles in locations where it is restricted to transport by large-sized vehicles. In the case of mountainous areas, it will be possible to divide it into a weight capable of being carried by a helicopter and it will be easy to adjust and fabricate it with individual modules. Furthermore, in order to break away from the traditional construction method, we proposed the equipment that can be applied to the assembly of Tubular Steel Pole without using a large crane in locations where there is no accessible road or in locations wherein large cranes cannot enter. In particular, this paper shows the movable assembling equipment and some methods that are specialized for vertical separated tubular steel pole consisting of members with reduced weight. The proposed assembly equipment is a device for assembling the body of the Tubular Steel Poles. It will be installed inside the support and the modules can be lifted by using the support itself.

  • Anions such as C $l^{[-10]}$ , N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , S $O_4$$^{2-}$, P $O_4$$^{3-}$, and organic anions, that do not become a part of the clay mineral crystal lattice, are of considerable interest in soils which are a potential sink caused by acid rain. In this paper, elution of native sulfate and breakthrough curves (BTC) were obtained from miscible displacement of non-specifically or specifically adsorbed anions through non-saturated or saturated Bt soil of Chungwon series. The shape and position of the BTC's could be affected by adsoprtion and ion exchange onto the soil particle surfaces. Measured BTC's for oxalic acid under unsaturated and saturated conditions showed that less pore volumes were required to displace the native S $O_4$$^{2-}$S from the soil column, and that maximum detection limit of oxalic acid reached earlier than under unsaturated. The retarded BTC's to the righthand side could be attributed by different adsorption behavior of each anion, although BTC's may be influenced by the smaller order of velocity change. The alternate breakthrough and elution curves show the rapid approach to the maximum detection limit of C/Co = 1, compared to progressive tailing of elution curve to reach to C/Co = 0. The probable explanation for asymmetric elution patterns for both anion is that the anion was selectively adsorbed on the positively charged soil surface from the solution passing in the soil column. On the other hand, the variations of pH in effluent showed that pH was increased to 7 in the first 6 pore volume and then gradually decreased to pH 4.

  • This study explores the results of the research and conservation treatment conducted on two-peony paintings in the collection of the National Museum of Korea. The Jang-ji(障子) resembles a folding screen, but differs in size, shape, and use. A thick sheet of paper was used to attach the paintings to a wall, and traces of the lattice frame and red pigments, which was mainly used for building structures, remain on the back of the paper. It is confirmed that the paper was used as Jang-ji(障子) attached to adorn the walls or doors of a building and specifically decorated the interior of Seonwonjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace, which was removed in 1867. The paper also indicates that the mounting was made in the 19th-century Joseon Dynasty, as the peony painting was finished in a different color from Jang-ji(障子) used for the Seonwonjeon Hall in Changdeokgung Palace. Based on the analysis of pigments and literature research, this study attempts to take a new approach to the colored pigments used in royal peony paintings, and it is believed that the conservation treatment used in this study highlights the necessity of continuous research on wallpaper as reference materials for royal paintings of the Joseon Dynasty.

  • In this study, the tuning phenomena, gas storage capacity, and thermal expansion behaviors of binary (cyclopentylamine + CH4) and (cyclopropylamine + CH4) clathrate hydrates were investigated for the potential applications of clathrate hydrates to gas storage. To understand the tuning behaviors of binary (cyclopentylamine + CH4) and (cyclopropylamine + CH4) clathrate hydrates, 13C solid-state NMR spectroscopy was used, and the results confirmed that maximum tuning factors for the binary (cyclopentylamine + CH4) and (cyclopropylamine + CH4) clathrate hydrates were achieved at 0.5 mol% and 1.0 mol% of guest concentration, respectively. The gas storage capacity of binary (cyclopentylamine + CH4) and (cyclopropylamine + CH4) clathrate hydrates were also checked, and the results showed the CH4 capacity of our hydrate systems was superior to that of binary (tetrahydrofuran + CH4) and (cyclopentane + CH4) clathrate hydrates. The synchrotron diffraction patterns of these hydrates collected at 100, 150, 200, and 250 K confirmed the formation of a cubic Fd-3m hydrate. In addition, the lattice constant of clathrate hydrates with cyclopentylamine and methane were larger than that with cyclopropylamine and methane due to the effects of molecular size and shape.

  • Major contributions has been made in cellular ultrastructure studies with the use of high voltage electron microscopy (HVEM) and tomography. Applications of HVEM, accompanied by appropriate image processing, have provided great improvements in the analysis of three-dimensional cellular structures. In the present study, structural patterns of the crystalline bodies that are distinguished in mesophyll plastids of CAM-performing Sedum rotundifolium L., have been investigated using HVEM and tomography. Tilting, and diffraction pattern analysis were performed during the investigation. The titlting was performed at ${\pm}60^{\circ}\;with\;2^{\circ}$ increments while examining serial sections ranging from 0.125 to $1{\mu}m$ in thickness. The young plastids exhibited crystalline inclusion bodies that revealed a peculiar structural pattern. They were irregular in shape and also variable in size. Their structural attributes affected the plastid morphology. The body consisted of a large number of tubular elements, often reaching up to several thousand in number. The tubular elements typically aggregated to form a fluster The elements demonstrated either a parallel or lattice arrangement depending on the sectioning angle. The distance between the elements was approximately 20nm as demonstrated by the diffraction analysis. HVEM examination of the serial sections revealed an occasional fusion or branching of elements within the inclusion bodies. Finally, a three-dimensional reconstruction of the plastid crystalline bodies has been attempted using two different image processing methods.

  • The growth and characterization of micro sized AlGaN array structures selectively grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on GaN stripes are reported. The shape of the AlGaN array structures depends on the size of exposed area for selective growth. The AlGaN array structures grown selectively on relatively large exposed area have regular shapes resembling those of the GaN stripes on the substrate, while samples selectively grown on relatively small exposed area have irregular shapes. The phonon frequency of the AlGaN array structures increases with increasing Al composition in the AlGaN structure. However, at relatively high Al composition (x = 0.28 in this research), the phonon frequency decreases slightly from the expected value not only because of large tensile strain associated with large differences between the lattice constants of the AlGaN structure and underlying GaN stripes but also changes of crystal facet direction during the selective growth.

  • Zn and Al added LiNi0.85Co0.15O2 cathode materials were synthesized to improve electrochemical properties and thermal stability using a solid-state route. Crystal structure, particle size and surface shape of the synthesized cathode materials was measured using XRD (X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy). CV (cyclic voltammetry), first charge-discharge profiles, rate capability, and cycle life were measured using battery cycler (Maccor, series 4000). Strong binding energy of Al-O bond enhanced structure stability of cathode material. Electrochemical properties were improved by preventing cation mixing between Li+ and Ni2+. Large ion radius of Zn+ increased lattice parameter of NC cathode material, which meant unit-cell volume was expanded. NCZA25 showed 80% of capacity retention at 0.5 C-rate during 100 cycles, which was 12% higher than that of NC cathode. The discharge capacity of NCZA25 showed 104 mAh/g at 5 C-rate. NCZA25 achieved 36 mAh/g more capacity than that of NC cathod. NCZA25 cathode material showed excellent rate capability and cycling performance.

  • Characteristics of nano-structured $SiO_2:Zn$ hollow powders prepared in the micro drop fluidized reactor process were investigated with respect to bandgap energy and surface activity. The $SiO_2:Zn$ hollow powders were successfully prepared continuously in the one step process with reasonable production efficiency, with varying the amount of THAM (tris(hydroxymethyl)-aminomethane) additive and concentration of $Zn^{2+}$ ions. The doping of $Zn^{2+}$ ions into $SiO_2$ lattice led to the reduction of bandgap energy by forming the acceptor level of $Zn^{2+}$ below the conduction band of $Si^{4+}$ ions. The hollow shape also contributed to reduce the bandgap energy of $SiO_2:Zn$ powders. The doping of $Zn^{2+}$ ions into $SiO_2$ hollow powders could enhance the surface activity by forming SiO-H stretching and oxygen vacancies at the surface of $SiO_2:Zn$ powders.

  • CdS thin films have been widely used as a buffer layer of CIGS semiconductor solar cells to reduce the lattice mismatch between transparent electrode and absorber layer. In order to prepare the CdS films with high transparency and low resistivity, they were deposited by varying Cd concentration with the constant S concentration in the solution using chemical bath deposition method. They were analyzed in terms of structural, optical and electrical properties of CdS films according to the $[S^{2-}]/[Cd^{2+}]$ ratio. In the case of Cd concentration higher than S concectration, CdS thin films were formed mainly by cluster- by-cluster formation due to the homogeneous reaction between Cd and S in the solution. Therefore the grain size increased and the transmittance decreased. On the other hand, in the case of Cd concentration lower than S concentration, CdS films were formed by heterogeneous reaction on the substrate rather than in the solution. The CdS films have the grains with the uniform circular shape of a few hundreds ${\AA}$. As the Cd concentration increased in the solution, the $[S^{2-}]/[Cd^{2+}]$ ratio decreased and the resistivity decreased by the increase in the carrier concentration due to the formation S vacancy by the excess Cd.

  • Al-containing titanium silicalite-1 ([Al]-TS-1) catalyst was prepared hydrothermally, and the effects of synthesis parameters such as silica/alumina sources, $SiO_2/TiO_2$ ratio, and aging treatment were investigated. The structure, crystal size, and shape were examined by XRD and SEM, and the extent of titanium incorporation into the zeolite framework was examined using UV-vis DRS spectroscopy. For [Al]-TS-1 catalyst preparation, aging of ca. 24h was essential, and the faster crystallization rates were achieved with Cab-O-Sil than with Ludox or TEOS as a silica source. In addition, the higher crystallinity and faster crystallization rate were obtained using sodium aluminate as an aluminum source. 2-butanol oxidation using $H_2O_2$ as an oxidant was carried out to confirm the redox property of the [Al]-TS-1. Acid sites catalyzed toluene alkylation study indicated that lattice titanium species in [Al]-TS-1 weakened the acid strength, and the para-ethyltoluene selectivity was enhanced as a results.
