  • The purposes of the study are to investigate the effects on academic of the self-directed learning and in-depth interviewing program in engineering underachieved students. 17 students participated in program and the grade points average(GPA) of participants are less than 2.5. First, we focus on the change of academic achievement after the self-directed learning and in-depth interviewing program. According to results, it is very effective not only in improving academic achievement of the participation subject but also in increasing GPA. Second, the pre-survey and the post-survey were conducted to the participants. We found some facts from the difference between the pre and post surveys. The expectation and satisfaction about learning have improved after self-directed learning, and the participants' recognition showed the meaningful change in important factors about learning.

  • purpose: The study was performed by targeting nursing students in order to examine the level of their self-directed learning ability, self efficacy and learner satisfaction and to identify their effects on learner satisfaction. methods: A structured self-administered questionnaire was used, and a total of 150 questionnaires were distribute. Data were collected from 150 nursing students at D university located in D city, and a total of 141 students were included for the final analysis. Data were collected between November 15, 2017 to December 16, 2017, and questionnaire comprised items to measure general characteristics, self-directed learning ability, self efficacy and learner satisfaction. results: In addition, learner satisfaction was positively correlated with self-direct learning ability, self-efficacy. Finally, self-direct learning ability, self-efficacy and interpersonal relationship were found to explain 42.9% of the variance of learner satisfaction. conclusion: The findings of this study could be utilized as base data when developing a program to enhance nursing students's learner satisfaction and it is suggested that an interventional research of analyzing validity and effectiveness of developed education program would be also required.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate Korean primary school English teachers' beliefs on self-directed teaching and learning for facilitating student's self-directed learning. A survey was conducted, using 315 primary school teachers as participants. According to different school areas, sex, English teaching careers, and types of English teaching like classroom teachers or English specialist teachers, beliefs on teachers' self-directed teaching were studied based on class planning, class process, utilization of human resources, development and utilization of teaching materials and class evaluation. The results of this study are as follows: first, differences were not shown except class planning according to teachers from different school areas. Second, sex and beliefs of teachers' self-directed teaching had nothing in common. Third, differences were shown in class planning and class process, according to English teaching careers. Finally, according to types of English teaching, differences were shown in class process and development and utilization of teaching materials. The study suggests that it is necessary to conduct other studies for observing primary English classrooms focusing on teacher's self-directed decision-making.

  • This study was to investigate the understand learning motivation, self-directed learning ability and problem solving process of fundamentals of nursing course using role play in evaluating the course. The subjects were 289 nursing students in year 1 in J college taking fundamental nursing practice course from Nov. 22 to Dec. 10. 2010. After setting hospital context and preparing scenario with patient and nurse roles, the evaluation of fundamentals of nursing practice was performed. For learning motivation and self-directed learning ability, there were significant differences by application motivation, a group intending further study and a group positive in role play evaluation. For problem solving process, there were significant differences in male group and a group positive in role play evaluation. Learning motivation had significant positive correlation between self-directed learning ability and between self-directed learning ability and problem solving process. This evaluation had correlation between learning motivation, self-directed learning ability and problem solving process.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of PBL on self-directed learning and critical thinking disposition. Method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design using two groups of first-year students from two nursing schools in Gwangju, South Korea. PBL was conducted for one semester. Result: Significant difference was found in self-directed learning between the two groups after PBL (p<0.05). but, not in critical thinking disposition. Conclusion: The findings indicate that there is a need for paradigm shift in nursing education from the traditional teacher-centered methods to a more learner-centered approach. PBL program will facilitate the development of abilities to become self-directed in learning.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among the variables and the influence of academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning ability on the life satisfaction of nursing students. Method : The participants were 340 nursing students in K city, who were surveyed between October 10 and October 17, 2017, using self-report questionnaire. Result: There were positive correlation between academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning ability life satisfaction for nursing students. The variables for life satisfaction addiction where "Self-directed learning ability" (${\beta}=.143$, p=.029) and "Class concentration" (${\beta}=.099$, p=.048), with a coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of 37.0%. Based on these results, it will be necessary to develop educational programs and strategies related with the self-directed learning ability and class concentration disposition to improve life satisfaction of nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine whether self-understanding influences self-directed learning, and to analyze the mediating effect of future-oriented thinking in the relationship. For this purpose, 240 middle school students in G area were surveyed using self-understanding scale, future-oriented thinking scale, and self-directed learning scale. The structural equation model was used to verify the mediating effect. The main results are as follows. First, self-understanding of middle school students influenced self-directed learning. Second, future-oriented thinking has a complete mediation effect on self-directed learning. As a result of this research, comprehensive implications were suggested for interventions.

  • Recently, various platforms of education technology (Edu-Tech) that use artificial intelligence have been developed in the field of mathematics education. The case study in this paper reports the learning experience of a high school student who was directed to learn mathematics through the self-directed learning process provided by a mathematics learning platform using Edu-Tech with the intervention of mentoring provided by his teacher. The study found that the mentoring intervention could make an effective contribution to student's mathematics learning by playing the role of an auxiliary tool for the self-directed learning over time. In this paper, we explain the nature of the challenges that the student encountered in the process of self-directed learning and the roles that the teacher mentoring has played in this process.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationship among self-directed learning ability, learner-instructor interaction, learner-learner interaction, and class satisfaction in online learning environments by the structural equation modelling (SEM). Participants of the study consisted of 300 students (110 = high school students, 190 = college students). Through latent mean analysis (LMA), there was no significant difference of study variables between high school and college groups. However, thorough multi-group analysis, self-directed learning ability had a direct and indirect effect on class satisfaction for the college group via learner-instructor and learner-learner interactions, while learner-learner interaction played a full mediating role of the relationship between self-directed learning ability and class satisfaction for the high school group. In addition, self-directed learning ability had a stronger influence on learner-learner interaction for the college group than the high school group. These results would provide important implications for understanding the different mechanisms between high school and college online learning contexts.
