Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the factors contributing to death anxiety among elders through family support, ageism experience, loneliness and helplessness. Methods: The participants were 155 elders who lived in S city. The data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire in elders over age 65. In addition, their levels of death anxiety, family support, ageism experience, loneliness, helplessness and death anxiety were measured using a likert scale Data analysis using a t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS 20 program. Results: Significant differences were found in the levels of perceived death anxiety between the variables affecting death anxiety in elders. Pearson's Correlation were found family support (p<.001), ageism experience (p<.001), loneliness (p<.001) and helplessness (p<.001) with death anxiety. Conclusion: It is concluded that such variables should be considered for decreasing death anxiety by family support, ageism experience, loneliness and helplessness in elders.
Purpose: This study examined the level of students' anxiety depending on the injection type, education methods, and the students' characteristics. Methods: 209 first year nursing students were randomly assigned to each group by three factors -injection methods, video watching, and number of practice. Injection methods had two levels (IV and IM). Video watching also had also two levels (video watching and non-watching group). And the number of practice had 4 levels according to number of practice (2, 4, 6, and 8 times). The video watching group was watching 30 minutes video before manikin practice. After 5 to 15 minutes of manikin practice, the sufficiency of practice and the level of anxiety were measured. The data were analyzed by t-test and one way ANOVA. Results: The anxiety of the IV practice was higher than that of IM. The students who have experiences of working at hospital or the similar institution were lower in anxiety. The higher self-confident in sufficiency of practice lowered the students' anxiety. But watching video and the number of practices had no effects on the level of anxiety. Conclusion: To effectively lower the anxiety of nursing students in the nursing practice education, lecture methods and education tools are needed to develop.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of auricular acupressure on competitive state anxiety and the accuracy of breaking in taekwondo players. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a time-series design. Twenty-two taekwondo breaking players were assigned to the control group for the first two weeks and then assigned to the experimental group for the next two weeks. Anxiety was measured by the revised Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 and the accuracy of breaking was measured as a percentage of breaking the wooden board. Results: Auricular acupressure for two weeks significantly increased the accuracy of breaking from 80.83±7.99% to 90.92±7.57% (t=7.74, p<.001). Auricular acupressure for two weeks significantly increased anxiety from 35.66±10.36 to 50.64±7.45 (t=4.38, p<.001). Among three subtypes of competitive state anxiety, somatic anxiety was increased from 12.48±4.97 to 22.95±4.54 (t=2.09, p=.011). Cognitive anxiety was significantly increased from 10.11±3.96 to 14.68±3.89 (t=5.37, p<.001) but self-confidence was not changed. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that auricular acupressure was effective in increasing the accuracy of breaking in taekwondo players.
The purpose of study carried out to determine the effect of informativeness influeucing the state-Anxiety of Hysterectomy patient, the relationship between Hysterectomy patient's general characteristics on State-Anxiety. and to investigation the cause of hysterectomy patient's Anxiety, the relationship between the cause of Anxiety and State-Anxiety. This stuad carried out between April 14. to May 24. 1983. This study sample consisted of 104 Hysterectomy patient who admitted to department of obstetrics of Seoul National University Hospital, Korea University Hospital, Han Yang University Hospital and Seung Nam Hospital. The data was analyzed by computer program. The results of the study were as follows. 1. There was shown state Anxiety to be alleviated by experimental group and control group. 2. There was significant relation between experimental group and control group. (p<0.01) 3. There was relation of state-Anxiety by education Level: Experimental group (p<0.05) control group (p<0.05) religion : only control group (p<0.05)economic state : only control group (p<0.05) The people who encouraged hysterectomy: Experimental group (p<0.05) control group (p<0.0001) 4. The cause of preoperative anxiety about hysterectomy were as follows: 1) destruction of body image(=loss of uterus) 2) husband's attitude 3) Expactation that hysterectomy will adversely affect sexual relation 5. Among the cause of Anxiety, R²for state-Anxiety were as follows: 1) economic state 17.3% 2) deatch 21.6% 3) Expactation that hysterectomy will adversely affect sexual relation 24.5%.
In this study, the effects of concept mapping with feedbacks providing explanatory comments on students' achievement, science learning anxiety, and science learning motivation were investigated in the undergraduate general chemistry course. The aptitude-treatment interactions between students' level of mastery goal orientation and the concept mapping with explanation feedback treatment were also examined. Sixty-seven freshmen from an university of education were assigned to a control group and a treatment group. The tests of mastery goal orientation, science anxiety, and science learning motivation were administered as pretests. For the treatment group, feedback providing students with explanatory comments through whole class discussion was presented after each concept mapping. Whereas the control group students were presented with opportunities solving excercise problems followed by explanation feedback. The intervention was lasted for 10 weeks (30 class periods). After the instructions, a researcher-made achievement test, the science learning anxiety test, and the science learning motivation test were administered. The results indicated that no statistically significant difference was found in students' achievement. In the science learning anxiety, however, the scores of the treatment group was significantly lower than those of the control group. The scores of the treatment group also tended to be higher, though not significant, than those of the control group in the science learning motivation. However, no significant aptitude-treatment interactions were found in all dependent variables.
The purpose of this study is to help the care of patient and to his family through comparison of the level of anxiety which between the family of admitted patient and the family without in patient, and to his family through comparison of the level of anxiety which between the family of admitted patient and the family without inpatient and exclude the factors which raised the level of anxiety in them. The experimental group in this study were samples of 200 patient's family selected by random sampling in H. University hospital located in Seoul (Department of patient were internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and neuropsychiatry). The control group were samples of 70 family without inpatient selected by random sampling in Seoul. The data were collected through STAI (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory) by Spielberger (1970) for measurement to level of state and trait anxiety from April 1st to April 15th in 1982. The contents of data analysis by EDPS included the difference of level of anxiety between experimental and control group, correlationship between general characteristics of experimental group and level of anxiety, and correlation of trait and state anxiety in experimental group. The Findings of this study were as follows: 1) Level of anxiety of experimental group is higher than control group. 2) In the correlation between general characteristics and level of anxiety of experimental group, there were no significant difference which revealed in correlation with age of family member, family life cycle, marital status, the relation between patient and family member, the degree of symptom, number of admission, admission or nonadmission of medical insurance, number of family member, and division of disease to level of anxiety However, according to the sex of family member, hospitalization period, a monthly income of family, the degree of confidence toward medical team, religion of family, academic background of family, a tendency of significant differences to level of anxiety were seen. To put them in the concrete, they were as follow; a) Level of. anxiety on female family member is higher than male in experimental group. b) Admission period of patient is positively related to the level of anxiety of patient's family. c) The degree of confidence of patient's family toward medical team is in inverse proportion to the level of anxiety. d) A monthly income of patient's family is in inverse proportion to the level of anxiety. e) Levlt of anxiety of believer in patient's family is lower than unbeliever. f) The academical background of patient's family is in inverse proportion to the level of anxiety g) Level of state anxiety of patient's family at the time of admission is positively related to the level of trait anxiety.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of Nurse Presence (NP) program on anxiety and physiological indicators in patients with gynecological surgery. Methods: This study used a randomized control group pre-test, post-test design. The patients were 25-65 years old who had undergone gynecological surgery with general anesthesia. The subjects were divided into an experimental group (n=30) and the control group (n=30). SPSS 21.0 was used to analyze the data with Chi-square, Fisher's exact test, t-test, and one sample t-test. Results: The results show that there were significant differences in anxiety and heart rate and were no significant differences in systolic pressure or peripheral oxygen saturation of the experimental group which received the NP program. Conclusion: Nurse Presence program decreased pulse rate which is a physiological indicator by relieving the anxiety of the patients before gynecological surgery. Thus, this intervention is effective to relieve anxiety of the patients before gynecological surgery and should be utilized in clinics.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the Quality of Life (QOL) and related factors in the patients with dizziness. Methods: The data were collected between March and June 2008 for 200 individuals who agreed to participate in the study. Uncertainty (Uncertainty in illness scale), anxiety, depression (Hospital anxiety & depression scale) and Vestibular disability activities of daily living (Vestibular disability-activities of daily living [ADL] scale) as well as QOL (Dizziness Handicap Inventory) were measured. Results: The mean QOL score was 37.5 (${\pm}23.0$). Monthly income, etiology of, frequency of, and total duration of dizziness were the significant factors related to QOL in these patients. Having had a fall, anxiety, depression, uncertainty and vestibular disability in daily living were also significant factors influencing QOL. In multiple regression analysis, anxiety, vestibular disability-ADL, falls, total duration of symptoms, uncertainty, and etiology of dizziness explained 41% of variance of QOL. Conclusion: The level of QOL in our patients was moderate as compared to those in previous studies. Anxiety and vestibular disability were the most important factors predicting low QOL. Use of nursing intervention programs designed to relieve these factors should also result in improving the QOL in the patients with dizziness.
