  • The objective of this research is to provide better knowledge on the behavior of strong axis SRC column-RC beam joint, supported by experimental results, that can be broadly applicable to many structures. For this purpose, firstly literature reviews and field survey were made to classify the most commonly used for these types of joints. Then, experimental program was designed and performed including 6 SRC column-RC beam joint specimens designed with various joint details. Using the experimental results obtained from the quasi-static cyclic tests, structural performances of the joints such as hysteretic curves, maximum strength capacities, strength degradation beyond the maximum strength, ductilities, and energy dissipation capacities were investigated. Test results showed that specimens with wide beam shape (RCW-P, RCW-W, RCW-F) and T beam shape (RCT-W) showed better structural performances than the bracket type specimens (HBR-L, HBR-S). These specimens also revealed to have higher strength capacities than the nominal design strength. However, H beam bracket type specimens (HBR-L, HBR-S) need further study both analytically and experimentally to verify the reason for unexpected structural performances.

  • Steel encased composite columns are widely used due to their excellent structural performance in terms of stiffness, strength, and ductility. However, experimental studies were usually for the columns having higher steel ratio $(3-4\%)$. There are two different design concepts for SRC columns. ACI-318 specifies the design strength of the column using the same concept of reinforced concrete columns. AISC-LRFD specifies the P-M diagram using the concept of steel column. In this paper, SRC columns have the steel ratio of $0.53\%\;and\;1.06\%$. From the test results, ACI-318 specifications showed better evaluation of SRC columns having low steel ratio. H beam and steel tube partially filled with concrete were embedded in concrete. Flexural tests showed considerably high ductility.

  • This study is a secondary study that is a cyclic seismic test of High depth hybrid composite beam and column connection after the primary bending strength test of a high depth Hybrid composite beam. Total of 3 seismic test specimens were prepared to cyclic test. The bracket and beam web spliced by high strength bolt and the bracket and beam upper flange was spliced by welding. Test results showed that the seismic strength was higher than the plastic moment($M_p$) in the positive negative moment section, the requirement of composite intermediate moment frame wes satisfied. Therefore, the requirement of intermediate moment frame can be secured by applying the details of connection of this study results.

  • In SRC column, the closed hoops are applied with the same detail of both 135° standard hooks to expect the same performance as hoops of RC columns. This standard detail is actually complicated to construct, thus, two separating rebars are connected in the form of a square shape and welded over the overlapping section. But this is also complicated in construction practice. Therefore, this study describes experimental results regarding cyclic behaviors shown with alternative hoops cramped by the steel clip type-binding device instead of welding and standard specimen. As a result of the experiment, the specimens with alternative hoops of the SRC column showed comparable performance to the specimens with closed hoops. Therefore, it can be evaluated that the alternative hoops applied with the rebar confinement clips in the SRC column can replace the closed hoop.

  • To investigate factors influencing the effective width of. SRC column-steel beam joint resisting the moment as strut, six specimens are designed and tested. Parameters in the test are column width, beam height and horizontal tie within beam depth. From the test, using either wide column width or ties, strength and stiffness of joint were developed. The lower beam height the specimens showed the lower moment.

  • In this study, finite element analysis was carried out through the finite element analysis program (ANSYS) to investigate the fire resistance of composite columns in fire. Transient heat transfer analysis and static structural analysis were performed according to ASTM E 119 heating curve and axial force ratio 0.7, 0.6, 0.5 by applying stress-strain curves according to temperature, and loading heating experiments were carried out under the same conditions. In addition, the nominal compressive strength of the composite column according to the heating time according to the standard(Eurocode 4) was calculated and expressed as the axial force ratio and compared with the analytical and experimental values. Through the analysis, As a result of finite element analysis, the fire resistance time was 180 minutes and similar value to the experimental value was obtained, whereas the fire resistance time 150 minutes and 60 minutes were derived from the axial force ratios 0.6 and 0.7. In addition, it was confirmed that the fire resistance time according to the axial force ratio calculated according to the reference equation (Eurocode 4) was lower than the actual experimental value. However, it was confirmed that the standard(Eurocode 4) was higher than the experimental value at the axial force ratio of 0.7. Accordingly, it is possible to confirm the fire resistance characteristics(time-axial force ratio relationship) of the SRC column at high axial force, and to use the experimental and anaylsis data of the SRC column as the data for verification based on Eurocode.

  • In this study, connection of steel reinforced concrete(SRC) column and composite beam which consists of H-section and U-section members were tested under cyclic loading. An essential point of the composite beam is the structural performance of welded joint between the H-section and the U-section members. To improve the structural performance of joint of two beam members, vertical stiffeners, trapezoidal stiffeners, and top bars were used. Five full-scaled specimens were designed to study the effect of a number of parameters on cyclic performance of connections such as H-section beam size($H-500{\times}200{\times}10{\times}16$, $H-600{\times}200{\times}11{\times}17$), the presence of stiffeners and top bars, and the presence of no weld access hole(WAH) method. Based on the test results, deformation capacity of the specimens with H-500 series beam and H-600 series beam were 4% and 3% rotation angle, which is the requirement for the Special Moment Frame and Intermediate Moment Frame(IMF), respectively. Test result showed that deformation capacity of connection with stiffeners and top bars is greater than that of connection without stiffeners and top bars. Finally, energy dissipation capacity and strain profile of specimens were summarized.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the structural behavior of fire damaged high-strength SRC columns with polypropylene fiber. When high-strength concrete is exposed to high temperature, spalling is occurred then it leads to decrease the capacity of members. Polypropylene fiber is used to reduce the spalling of the specimens and the distinction in the behavior after fire is observed. High-strength concrete specimens were exposed to high temperatures by the ISO 834 curve. Main experimental parameters were the ratio of the contained polypropylene fiver, heating time and type of loading. Reduction rate in residual strength and stiffness is observed for the mixing of PP fiber, the heating time and eccentricity of loading.

  • PSRC composite column is a concrete encased steel angle column. In the PSRC composite column, the steel angles placed at the corner of the cross-section resists bending moment and compression load. In the present study, using the performance criteria in KBC 2009, cyclic lateral loading test was performed for PSRC columns to verify the seismic performance. The test parameters were the column type, the use of continuous hoop, and the use of studs for steel angle. 2/3 scale specimens of a conventional composite column and three PSRC columns were tested. The test results showed that the load-carrying capacity predicted by KBC 2009 correlated well with the test results. The specimens also exhibited good deformation and energy dissipation capacities. After concrete cover spalling under cyclic loading, the load-carrying capacity were decreased by buckling of longitudinal bars and steel angles. When continuous hoop was used, the deformability of the PSRC column was improved, preventing early buckling of the steel angles.
