  • A mutigrid convergence acceleration technique is presented for computing hypersonic inviscid and viscous flows in equilibrium state. The governing equations are solved using an explicit Runge-Kutta method. Curve fitting data in NASA Reference Publication 1181, 1260 are used to calculate equilibrium properties. In order to ensure stability, damped prolongation and modified implicit residual smoothing are proposed. Blunt body test cases are presented to demonstrate the robustness and the efficiency in performance of the proposed methods

  • Recently, with rapid improvement in computer hardware and theoretical development in the field of computational fluid dynamics, high-order accurate schemes also have been applied in the realm of computational hydraulics. In this study, numerical solutions of 1D shallow water equations are presented with TVD Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) finite element method. The transcritical flows such as dam-break flows due to instant dam failure and transcritical flow with bottom elevation change were studied. As a formulation of approximate Riemann solver, the local Lax-Friedrichs (LLF), Roe, HLL flux schemes were employed and MUSCL slope limiter was used to eliminate unnecessary numerical oscillations. The developed model was applied to 1D dam break and transcritical flow. The results were compared to the exact solutions and experimental data.

  • Shimmy is a self-excited vibration in lateral and torsional directions of a landing gear during either the take-off or landing. It is caused by a couple of conditions such as a low torsional stiffness of the strut, a free-play in the landing gear, a wheel imbalance, or worn parts, and it may make the aircraft unstable. This study was performed for an analysis of the shimmy stability on a small aircraft. A nose landing gear was modeled as a linear system and characterized by state-equations which were used to analyze the stability both in the frequency and time-domain for predicting whether the shimmy occurs and investigating a good design range of the important parameters. The root-locus method and the 4th Runge-Kutta method were used for each analysis. Because the present system has a simple mechanism using a friction to reinforce the stability, the friction, a non-linear factor, was linearized by a describing function and considered in the analysis and observed the result of the instability reduction.

  • A method is developed for solving the natural frequencies and mode shapes of linearly variable tapered beams. The governing differential equation for the tapered beam is derived. Three kinds of cross sectional shape are considered in differential equation. The Runge-Kutta method and the determinant search method are used to perform the integration of the differential equation and to determine the natural frequencies, respectively. The hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped, damped-clamped and free-damped end constraints are investigated in numerical examples. The lowest four nondimensional natural frequencies are obtained as functions of $d_b/d_a$. ratio. The effects of end constraints and cross sectional shapes on frequencies are analyzed and typical mode shapes are also presented.

  • An internal ballistic model to predict the performance of a Polyethylene-GOX (PE-GOX) hybrid motor was proposed and evaluated. A theoretical treatment of the model was followed by detail discussion of each of the factors affecting the overall performance. The present model consists of the governing equations by considering the unsteady burn-back rate of the fuel grain and on-off response characteristics of a oxygen-supply valve. The numerical results using the 4th order Runge-Kutta scheme with temporal physicochemical properties showed good agreements with test results and the global effects of the performance parameters, such as the burning area of the fuel grain, O/F ratio, and etc., on the performance of the motor were analyzed.

Diagonalized Approximate Factorization Method for 3D Incompressible Viscous Flows (대각행렬화된 근사 인수분해 기법을 이용한 3차원 비압축성 점성 흐름 해석)

  • An efficient diagonalized approximate factorization algorithm (DAF) is developed for the solution of three-dimensional incompressible viscous flows. The pressure-based, artificial compressibility (AC) method is used for calculating steady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The AC form of the governing equations is discretized in space using a second-order-accurate finite volume method. The present DAF method is applied to derive a second-order accurate splitting of the discrete system of equations. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the computational efficiency of the present DAF method. The solutions of the DAF method are evaluated relative to those of well-known four-stage Runge-Kutta (RK4) method for fully developed and developing laminar flows in curved square ducts and a laminar flow in a cavity. While converged solutions obtained by DAF and RK4 methods on the same computational meshes are essentially identical because of employing the same discrete schemes in space, both algorithms shows significant discrepancy in the computing efficiency. The results reveal that the DAF method requires substantially at least two times less computational time than RK4 to solve all applied flow fields. The increase in computational efficiency of the DAF methods is achieved with no increase in computational resources and coding complexity.

  • 연소실 안으로 분출되는 스월 유동의 vortex breakdown mechanism에 대한 연구를 하였다. 3차원 유한 체적기법과 Runge-Kutta 시간 적분법이 적용되었으며, 난류모델은 dynamic large eddy simulation (DLES)이 적용되었다. 계산 시간의 효율성과 기억용량을 효과적으로 사용하기 위하여 message passing interface (MPI) 병렬계산 기법이 적용되었다. 스월 난류 유동에 있어서 vortex breakdown 거동을 가시적으로 표착 하였는데, 이는 스월 유동에 의한 난류 응력 증대, 난류 생성/소산율 증대 및 혼합율 증대에 대한 실험적 근거를 뒷받침하는 매우 중요한 결과이다. 또한 평균 속도와 난류 운동에너지에 대한 계산 결과도 실험 결과와 비교하였다.

  • 진화 알고리즘은 생물의 유전적 진화 과정을 이용한 새로운 문제 해결의 방안으로 결정론적 방법으로 해결하지 못한 난제에 적합한 알고리즘으로 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 진화 알고리즘의 연구를 기반으로 전달함수 출력 파형 검출을 위한 기법에서 이용되고 있는 런지-커타(Runge-Kutta) 방법에서의 상미분 방정식의 해를 구하는 기법에서 유전 알고리즘을 이용하여 그 결과를 찾아본다. 본 논문에서의 구현은 자바 언어를 이용하며, 자바 언어를 적용한 구현 방법과 유전 알고리즘의 효율적 기법을 제시한다.

Numerical Simulation for Near Field-Behavior of Wastewater Discharged into Stagnant Ambient in Coastal Region (연안지역의 정체수역에서 방류되는 하$\cdot$폐수의 근역거동 수치모의)

  • This study developed the jet integral model to analyze the behavior of the wastewater discharge in the near field using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method in order to numerically solve the problems of six ordinary differential equations and six unknowns. This jet integral model used the entrainment hypothesis and the manipulation of sonle shape constant. This study also conducted the hydraulic experiments fnr single horizontal buoyant Jet using LIF through the calibration procedure. The results calculated by the previous models, CORMIX 1 and VISJET, and the proposed jet integral model were compared to the hydraulic experimental results. The centerline trajectories predicted by the proposed model were in good agreements with the experimental results in the transition region whereas the trajectories calculated by the VISJET model agreed well with the measured data in the momentum and buoyancy-dominated regions. The centerline dilution calculated by the proposed model agreed generally with the measured dilution in the intial and transition regions while the centerline dilution predicted by the CORMIX 1 was in good agreements with the experimental results in the momentum and buoyancy-dominated regions.

Impact Analysis of Oleo-pneumatic Nose Strut for Light Aircraft (소형항공기 올레오 타입 전방착륙장치 충격해석)

  • In this study, a nonlinear 2 degree of freedom mathematical model has been developed for impact analysis of the nose landing gear of a light aircraft which is composed of an wheel & tire, an Oleo-pneumatic shock strut and the castering wheel fork for the differential braking steering, and then the response of impact is computed using a numerical method. The mathematical model of a nose landing gear contains nonlinear characteristics which are an impact load - deflection property of a tire and internally frictional forces between an inner surface of an upper cylinder and a bearing of a lower rod due to side forces like the declined angle of strut, the moment due to an wheel fork, the side drag due to a steering and it is computed using the 4th-order Runge-Kutta method. The comparison process between analytical results and experimental results of the other proven nose landing gear is carried out to verify the mathematical model.
