  • This study was intended to devise means to encourage participation for organizations taking part in "resident participation parks.", "Resident participation" has become increasingly recognized as an effective means of park management in Korea. To this end, this study analyzed the current status of social networks for civic organizations participating in park management with respect to their degree of participation, credibility and trust, and exchange of information. Among resident participation parks, "Seoul Forest Park" has been widely recognized as a model example; accordingly this study designated Seoul Forest Park as its primary research focus. Thirty core members of resident participation organizations were selected as test subjects. Members of the resident participation organizations under review came from various backgrounds, including government administrative organizations, citizens' groups, residents' groups, and private businesses. Surveys were used to provide data on credibility and trust between organizations, levels of participation, and exchange of information, as well as statistics on demographic affiliation. Results were examined through UCINET, a program designed to analyze social networks. Survey results indicated that 1) The "Seoul Forest Park Conservancy" and the "Seoul Forest Park Management Office" constituted a hub within their social networks that maintained significantly more relationships than other organizations with regard to levels of credibility and trust, participation, and exchange of information; 2) Social networks for organizations wishing to work together, or desiring active participation in the future tended to center on citizens' organizations in the environmental and arts fields; and 3) Women's associations and meetings of neighborhood("tong") leaders had very little significance as a center in the social networks of local residents groups, and indeed very few connections amongst themselves. The results of this research can be applied in the devising of proposals for encouraging participation in resident participation parks in consideration of the social networks between organizations engaging in park management activities for a diverse array of urban parks and other areas.

  • This study investigated the status of resident participation in the policy of supplying new and renewable energy in rural areas. According to the survey, most of the rural residents were well aware of the new and renewable energy supply project promoted by the government. However, it was found that participation in the project was difficult mainly for economic and social reasons. In order to activate the participation of rural residents who can't participate in the renewable energy power generation project for economic and social reasons, it is necessary to develop and promote business models and support policies for power generation projects in which village communities participate. Changes in residents' acceptability due to resident education and operation for solar power systems were analyzed. As a result of the survey, it was found that the satisfaction of rural residents was high when new and renewable energy power generation projects were introduced in rural areas. Therefore, it is thought that the government's goal of increasing farm household income and expanding the supply of new and renewable energy in rural area can be successfully achieved by the improvement of resident acceptability and the increase of the participation rate. Lastly, this study presented a plan to improve the resident acceptability of the renewable energy system by using the rural solar project and survey results.

  • In this paper we propose novel method for cost of harbor facility of redevelopment of Mookho harbor at Donghae city by using ICT(Information Communication Technology) and Social Network System that is able to participate most residents instead of partly participation for harbor development. In order to do this, we analyze urban marketing which was maximally reflected opinion of resident by using previous simple questionnaire as well as various SNS (Social Network System) as method of effective resident's participation in process harbor redevelopment. We perform optimal selection for ratio of resident's participation. We also propose calculation of optimal construction cost and method of urban marketing.

  • Citizen's involvement in forest decision-making is recently acknowledged as a potential solution to forest management conflicts. Through participation, affected citizens become a part of the decision-making process. This paper focuses on the use of collaborative and participatory model(CPM) for urban forest management. The model, which is exemplified by the Daejisan case in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, Korea, utilizes the collaborative decision-making structure and the gradual level of resident participation in urban forest management. As a result, the committee in the model contributed to building partnerships among different interest groups and then to constructing environmentally compatible urban park. Furthermore, an improvement in the levels of resident participation was manifested in the process. These characteristics of CPM can encourage participation and cooperation among stakeholders and ultimately contribute to realizing sustainable urban forest management.

It was established in 1997 as soon as the new town was opened, this year is fifth since it was started. It has three objects. 1)Maintenance and use woody environment, 2) Community development, 3) Continuation and renewal native culture. And it has general course, three special courses and one extra course were established in the activity. 1) General course is an activity participated all of member. It's included farming experience in the native field and seasonal events. 2) Rice growing and woods maintenance course is rice growing and wild wood maintenance in the park as a series of annual farming activities. 3) Benefaction from farm course is started from planting spring vegetable at Mizukoshi(Leader of Minamino Shezen-Juku)'s field. • Resident and user participation has been emerging as a hot topic and has been predicted to be popular and general in urban planning and regeneration, specially in housing regeneration in future. Also the number of the resident who are willing to participate in planning and regeneration process is expected to increase drastically as democratic and diverse society get matured. To enable a wide range of residents in planning process within a very limited time, effective and efficient communication tools need to be prepared. The purpose of study is to develop a set of tools for facilitating residents to participate actively in the process of exploring, consulting and decision making process in the street and regeneration. A realistic and feasible testbed site was decided. Developed tools were first, educational contents to empower resident capability to select a better design, second, three dimensional scaled model of existing site, third, floorplan and elevation of design alternative, forth, computer simulation images of both 3D & sketch-up for comparing wall heights and their effect. fifth, Two workshops among professionals and one workshop with residents were carried. Through the workshop, guidelines of developing communication tool for facilitating resident participation was developed. Its usage was summarized in both in further analog and digital tool.
