Design of a Cost-Effective Hybrid-Type PBEx Providing a High Power Budget in an Asymmetric 10G-EPON

  • This paper proposes a cost-effective hybrid-type power budget extender (PBEx) that can provide a high power budget of over 45 dB in an asymmetric 10-Gb/s Ethernet passive optical network (10/1G-EPON). The hybrid-type 10/1G-EPON PBEx comprises a central office terminal (COT) and remote terminal (RT) module supporting four channels and uses a coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) technology between the COT and RT for a reduction of fiber cost and efficient access network design. The proposed 10/1G-EPON PBEx can provide over a 40-km reach and 128-way split per CWDM wavelength with no modification of a legacy 10/1G-EPON system and can satisfy the error-free service in $10^{10}$ packet transmission.

  • For an electrical insulation design of HTS cable, it is important to understand the dielectric characteristics of insulation materials in $LN_2$ and the insulation type. Generally, the electrical insulation of HTS Cable is classified into two types of the composite insulation and solid insulation type. In this research, we selected the insulation paper/$LN_2$ composite insulation type for the electric insulation of a HTS cable, and studied electric insulation characteristics of synthetic Laminated Polypropylene Paper (LPP) in liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) for the application to high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable. Furthermore, we compared the breakdown characteristics of the butt gap and bended mini-model cable. It is necessary to understand the winding parameter of insulation paper/$LN_2$ composite insulation.

  • Electrostatic eliminators are essential in various areas of manufacturing industries to protect electrostatic hazards and to reduce inferior products. For ion sources used in the charge neutralizers, there are corona discharge, soft X-ray, and ultraviolet and glow discharge. Among them, corona discharge is generally used, because the corona discharge can easily and economically produce positive and negative ions including electrons in air at atmospheric pressure. But it is necessary to equip explosion-protection electrostatic eliminators wherever hazardous atmosphere. The electrostatic eliminators and their testing method of explosion-protection type have been developed in this research. The contents and scope of the research as follows; developing the type 'Ex s IIB T4' electrostatic eliminator of explosion-protection; developing the type 'Ex s d IIB T4' electrostatic eliminator of explosion-protection; developing the explosion-protection performance testing method of electrostatic eliminator for using AC power source.

Yield Management Models for Two Substitutable Products (두 대체품에 대한 수익관리 모형 연구)

  • Yield management, which originated from the U.S. service industry, uses pricing techniques and information systems to make demand management decisions. Demand uncertainty is an important factor in the area of demand management. A key strategy to reduce the effects of demand uncertainty is substitution. The most generally known type of substitution is inventory-driven substitution, in which consumers substitute an out-of-stock product by buying a similar or other type of product. Another type of substitution is the price-driven substitution, which occurs as a result of price changes. In this research, we consider two market segments that have unique perishable products. We develop yield management optimization models with stochastic demand based on the newsvendor model where inventory-driven and price-driven substitutions are allowed between products in the two market segments. The most significant contribution of this research is that it develops analytical procedures to determine optimal solutions and considers both types of substitution. We also provide detailed theoretical analysis and numerical examples.

  • For the accurate calibrations of thermometers at low temperatures, triple points of oxygen and argon have been realized using sealed-type triple point cells. The triple points were realized with both adiabatic and continuous heating methods. The resistance of three capsule-type standard platinum resistance thermometers were measured at the triple points of oxygen, argon, mercury and water for the calibrations of these thermometers in the range from $-220^{\circ}C$ to $0.01^{\circ}C$. The extended uncertainty, with the coverage factor of 2, of the calibration in this range is smaller than 1 mK.

  • This paper describes the analysis of the device characteristics of the NPT type 1200V Insulated gate Bipolar Transistor. In case of NPT type IGBT devices, optimized n-epi layer thickness and concentration is important to obtain low on-state voltage and breakdown voltage characteristics. In this paper, we analyzed on-state and off-state characteristics of NPT type IGBT. Breakdown voltage of designed IGBT was higher than 1200V when we optimized Field Limiting Ring structures. And also, on-state voltage characteristics was shown less then 2.5V at 25A of drain current.

  • $SF_6$ gas has been increasingly used as the insulating and arc-suppressing medium in switchgears which are used as the protection devices of power system. Nowadays, most of power companies adopted the $SF_6$ gas-type load break switch for increasing the reliability of distribution network by its superior durability against external environmental condition, in substitution for air-type and oil-type switches. But, it is important to establish the general estimation process for the testing and estimation for long-term reliability. Accordingly, this paper presents the reliability testing method for $SF_6$ gas load break switch which is based on the analysis of the failure mode and the statistics.

  • This Paper presents Sigma-Delta Modulation(SDM) schemes to generate switching waveform for a high-power factor boost-type rectifier. The SDM scheme can be implemented by simple digital algorithm unlike conventional PWM schemes with several hardware, and has the characteristics of spectrum-spreading and noise-shaping effects, which are profitable in harmonic reduction of input current in the boost-type rectifier. The comparison results of their spectrum performances shows that the 1st-order SDM has better harmonic suppression effect than conventional PWM scheme and Dithered SDM scheme.
