Each part of drum brake system is loaded by continual mechanical force and thermal force every time of braking, so enough strength and stability are required. Thermal characteristic is one of the important factors in drum brake systems design. This paper presents the thermal performance such as temperature distribution and thermal contact stress of drum brake system considering several braking patterns; 80th heat braking test mode, heat fade braking test mode, general road mode, steep slope road mode and off road mode. Transient heat transfer analysis and Thermo elastic contact analysis is executed to obtain the temperature distribution, and to evaluate thermal stress of drum brake by using ABAQUS/Standard code. This procedure of analysis can effectively be used to improve the quality problem of brake system and to get design guideline of the new product.
Microscale thermophysical property measurements of liquids have been developed considering the increasing interest in the thermal management of cooling systems and energy storage/transportation systems. To accurately predict the heat transfer performance, information on the thermal conductivity, heat capacity, and density is required. However, a simultaneous analysis of the thermophysical properties of small-volume liquids has rarely been considered. Recently, we proposed a new methodology to simultaneously analyze the aforementioned three intrinsic properties using heater-integrated fluidic resonators (HFRs) in an atmospheric pressure environment comprising a microchannel, resistive heater/thermometer, and mechanical resonator. Typically, the thermal conductivity and volumetric heat capacity are measured based on a temperature response resulting from heating using a resistive thermometer, and the specific heat capacity can be obtained from the volumetric heat capacity by using a resonance densitometer. In this study, we analyze methods to improve the thermophysical property measurement performance using HFRs, focusing on the effect of the ambience around the sensor. The analytical method is validated using a numerical analysis, whose results agree well with preliminary experimental results. In a vacuum environment, the thermal conductivity measurement performance is enhanced, except for the thermal conductivity range of most gases, and the sensitivity of the specific heat capacity measurement is enhanced owing to an increase in the time constant.
For a successful commercialization of microbolometer, it is required to develop a robust package including thermal stabilizing mechanism. In order to regulate the temperature within some operating range, thermoelectric cooler is generally used but it's not easy to model the whole package due to the coupled physics nature of thermoelectric cooler. In this paper, SPICE-compatible modeling methodology of a microbolometer package is presented, whose steady-state results matched well with FEM results at the maximum difference of 5.95%. Although the time constant difference was considerable as 15.7%, it can be offset by the quite short simulation time compared to FEM simulation. The developed model was also proven to be useful for designing the thermal stabilizer through parametric and transient analyses under the various working conditions.

Thermal deformation of machine tools can be evaluated from the analysis of the whole temperature field. However, it is extremely inefficient and impossible to acquire the whole temperature field by measuring temperatures of every point. So, a temperature estimator, which can estimate the whole temperature field from the temperatures of just a few points, is required. In this paper, 1-dimensional heat transfer problem is modeled with modal analysis and state space equations. and then state observer is designed to estimate the intensity of heat source and the whole temperature field in real-time. The reliability of this estimator is verified by making a comparison between solutions by the proposed method and the exact solutions of examples. The proposed method is applied to the estimation of temperature distribution in a ball screw system.

Occasionally, equipment in a distribution system fails due to damage from weather, vandalism, or other causes. Failures and unexpected events do not always occur as and where expected. Therefore, a good contingency plan, multi-zone or otherwise, provides flexibility by locating switches at various strategic locations so that parts of a feeder can be picked up in the event of line outages at various places. It is possible to create feeder system layout that achieve remarkable contingency support economics, even as their normal peak loading levels approach thermal capacity, by utilizing six, seven, or even nine switchable zones per feeder. But many switchable zones per feeder are of questionable practicality and effectiveness, because of the complexity and time required for the switching operation. In practice, a zonal scheme with between three and four zones will usually provide complete contingency backup for all feeders. Line switches have both capital and maintenance costs, the planning for multi-zonal schemes is considerably more difficult than or loop or single-zone systems, and the required switching operations required during contingencies take more time. But multi-zonal schemes are used because these costs come to far less than the cost of additional capacity required for loop or single-zone. In this paper, we present the optimal number of switchable zones per feeder in Kora distribution system.
The purpose of this study is to find the optimal conditions of PCM slurry manufacturing equipment for saving the marketing cost and keeping the original quality of products. In addition, the characteristics of the movable container for shipping or distributing products is analysed. The major results are as follows. 1. PCM thermal storage system is designed with the conditions of temperature($-5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$), cold chain time(30 minutes), and one time usage(50 liter). This system includes tank, freezer, circulating pump, cycle type heat exchanger, swelling tank, equipment of supplying PCM supplying unit includes cold tank, cycle type heat exchanger, suction unit and control equipments, etc. 2. After ability test of PCM thermal storage system, it shows that the required freezing time of PCM thermal storage system is less than one of the previous system. The reason is that churn (top and bottom) and compulsion circulation are occurred simultaneously and unit cooler type method is better than chiller type method. 3. By the experiment of transportation latent heat container, it is decided that the best container is $K_1$ with latent heat temperature($0{\sim}5^{\circ}C$) and density(0.15%). However, for $K_l\;and\;K_2$, it is necessary more studies on latent heat thermal conditions and conditions of making method.

In this paper, we have investigated the effects of rapid thermal process on the electrical and structural properties of silicon films. It was shown that required times and temperature for the successful activation of dopants (Boron, Phosphorus:5E15atoms/cm\ulcorner were above 1000\ulcorner, 10sec, respectively. The typical resistivities of films deposited below 600\ulcorner were in the range of 1.0 E-3ohm-cm which was 20-30% lower than that of initially polycrystalline silicon depositd above 600\ulcorner. After rapid thermal process at high temperature above 1000\ulcorner, the films did not reveal any change in resistivity due to the dopant segregation, and better electrical conductivity could be obtained by increasing the process time. The grain growth by RTA treatment was more salient in the case of the doped amorphous than that of initially polycrystalline. The surface of the films also preserved the higher structural perfection and surface smoothness.

Emphasis has been placed on thin plate fabrication of plain woven carbon fabric reinforced Al matrix composites using liquid pressing process. The composite has potential applications for PDP rear plate. The process is to use the low pressure for infiltration of Al melt into plain woven carbon fabric as the Al melt is pressurized directly. The minimum pressure required for the infiltration was calculated from force balance equation, permeability measurements and compaction behavior of carbon fiber. Also, the melting temperature and the holding time have been optimized. In order to measure coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the composites, the thermal strain measurement using strain gage was performed and the thermal conductivity of the composites was measured using laser flash method. The constituent materials of the composite are PAN type carbon fibers as reinforcements and 6061 Al alloys as matrices.

In automotive brake systems, the frictional heat generated can cause high temperature at the interface of rotor and pad which may deteriorate the material properties of the sliding parts and can result in brake fade. Conventionally, a pie-shaped 3-dimentional model is adopted to calculate temperature of ventilated disk using finite element method. To overcome the difficulties in preparing 3D finite element model and reduce the computational time required, the ventilated rotor is to be analyzed, in this study, as an axisymmetric finite element model in which, taking into considerations the effects of cooling passages, a homogenization technique is used to obtain the equivalent thermal properties and boundary conditions for the elements placed at the vent holes. Numerical tests show the proposed procedure can be successfully applied in practice, replacing 3-dimensional thermal analysis of ventilated disk.
The mass concrete structures are generally constructed in an incremental manner by deviding the whole structures by a series of many blocks. The temperature and stress distributions of any specific block are continuously affected by the blocks placed before and after the specific block. For an accurate analysis of mass concrete structures, the sequence of all the blocks must be accordingly considered including the change of material properties with time for those blocks considered. The purpose of this study is to propose a realistic analysis method which can take into account not only the influence of the sequence, time interval and size of concrete block placement on the temperatures and stresses, but also the change of material properties with time. It is seen from this study that the conventional simplified analysis, which neglects material property changes of some blocks with time and does not consider the effect of adjacent blocks in the analysis, may yield large discrepancies in the temperature and stress distributions of mass concrete structures. This study gives a method to choose the minimum number of blocks required to obtain reasonably accurate results in analysis. The study provides a realistic method which can determine the appropriate size and time interval of block placement, and can be efficiently used in the design and construction of mass concrete structures.
