  • It is well known that assurance of the radiation therapy needs for an accuracy of $\pm$ 5 % in the delivery of an absorbed dose to target volume. Therefore, the dose evaluation of brachytherapy source and/or linear accelerate beam must be a stability with accuracy. In an advanced country, they recommended to use the radioactive check source for reference air ionization chamber for a stable response of radiation field chamber. In this experiments, the radioactive source Sr-90 and PR-05 air ionization chamber were used for standard source and reference ion chamber. The response of reference ion chamber showed as an 1.000$\pm$ 0.010 uncertainty for 10 years long and the evaliuation f dose discrepancy of clinical field ion chamber showed as 0.997 $\pm$0.011 in a $^{60}$ Co brachytherapy soruce. In our experiments, we can assuarance the long halflife standard source is reliable to preserve the calibration factor of reference chamber in stability.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of a "stealth chamber" as a novel reference chamber for measuring percentage depth dose (PDD) and profile of 6, 8 and 10 MV photon energies. The PDD curves and dose profiles with fields ranging from $3{\times}3$ to $25{\times}25cm^2$ were acquired from measurements by using the stealth chamber and CC 13 chamber as reference chamber. All measurements were performed with Varian VitalBeam linear accelerator. In order to assess the performance of stealth chamber, PDD curves and profiles measured with stealth chamber were compared with measurement data using CC13 chamber. For PPDs measured with both chambers, the dosimetric parameters such as $d_{max}$ (depth of maximum dose), $D_{50}$ (PDD at 50 mm depth), and $D_{100}$ (PDD at 100 mm depth) were analyzed. Moreover, root mean square error (RMSE) values for profiles at $d_{max}$ and 100 mm depth were evaluated. The measured PDDs and profiles between the stealth chamber and CC13 chamber as reference detector had almost comparable. For PDDs, the evaluated dosimetric parameters were observed small difference (<1%) for all energies and field sizes, except for $d_{max}$ less than 2 mm. In addition, the difference of RMSEs for profiles at $d_{max}$ and 100 mm depth was similar for both chambers. This study confirmed that the use of stealth chamber for measuring commission beam data is a feasible as reference chamber for fields ranging from $3{\times}3$ to $20{\times}20cm^2$. Furthermore, it has an advantage with respect to measurement of the small fields (less than $3{\times}3cm^2$ field) although not performed in this study.

  • This study was conducted to improve the flow uniformity inside the chip tester through changing the flow path formation according to the inlet and outlet position of chamber. The internal flow and velocity distributions of the modified chamber models (Cases 1-3) were compared with the reference chamber model through three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with k-ε turbulence model. The modified chamber models showed the superior flow uniformity characteristics compared to the reference chamber model. To investigate the flow uniformity in the chip tester, the standard deviation of the velocity was defined and compared. Through the internal flow analysis and assesment of the standard deviation, Case 2 among the test cases including the reference model showed the best flow uniformity generally.

  • The centrifugal oil purifier is used in ships for purifying the engine lubrication oil. The momentum needed for the rotation of the cylindrical chamber is obtained by jet injections. The dust particles in the oil are separated by the centrifugal forces moving to the inner wall of the rotating cylindrical chamber body. The dust particles are eliminated when the particles are adsorbed onto the surface of the inner wall of the chamber body. The flow characteristics and the physical behaviours of particles in this centrifugal oil purifier have been investigated numerically and the filtration efficiencies have been evaluated. For the calculations, a commercial code has been used and the SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model has been adopted. The MRF (Multiple Reference Frame) method has been introduced to consider the rotating effect of the flows. Under various variables, such as particle size, particle density and rotating speed, the filtration efficiencies have been evaluated. It has been verified that the filtration efficiency is increased with the increments of the particle size, the particle density and the rotating speed of the cylindrical chamber.

  • It is important to reduce indirect scattered neutron beside direct neutron of chosen energy for designing a neutron-reference-field laboratory with neutron produced from a nuclear reaction by a accelerator. Therefore MCNPX simulation was performed with various conditions for obtaining such condition. At first in the original laboratory condition we calculated the direct neutron flux which was inserted in chamber (virtual chamber composed of air) of 0 degree (proton moving direction) for neutron flux measurement and the scattered neutron flux which is inserted in the chamber after scattering wall or bottom. In the result, the scattered neutron which was inserted after scattering bottom is more than that which was inserted after scattering the others. Therefore MCNPX simulation was again performed with removing the concrete bottom and with removing the concrete bottom and digging 1 m in the ground. In the result of removing concrete bottom and digging 1 m in the ground, scattered neutron which was inserted after scattering bottom became less than that which was inserted after scattering the others.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine Correlation analysis of central corneal thickness, anterior chamber volume, and anterior chamber depth in Koreans aged 20 to 24 years using the Pentacam tool. Methods: The subjects of this study were 53 Korean adults with healthy eyes. The central corneal thickness(CCT), anterior chamber volume(ACV), and anterior chamber depth(ACD) was measured with Pentacam device. Data was analyzed by means of the Pearson's correlation cofficient. P-values<0.001 were considered statistically significant. Results: Mean age of subjects was 22.0±2.01 years. The mean +/- central corneal thickness of the right eye and left eye were 546.66±32.221mmg and 545.70±32.759mm, respectively. Also The mean central cornea thickness was 546.19 um in the whole sample. The mean anterior chamber volume the right eye and left eye was 181.66±33.738 mm3 and 180.12±30.84 mm3, respectively. The mean anterior chamber depth was 3.158±0.257 mm and 3.122±0.233 mm in right eye and left eye, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between anterior camber volume and anterior chamber depth(p<0.001, Pearson's correlation). However there was no statistically significant difference between central cornea thickness and anterior chamber volume. Also there was no statistically significant difference between central cornea thickness and anterior chamber depth. Conclusion: The results of this study could be used as a clinical reference data for diagnosis and treatment of cornea in Korean adolescents.

  • A key comparison has been made between the air-kerma standards of the National Institute of Metrology (NIM), China, and other Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) members in the medium-energy X-ray. This paper reviews the primary standard Free-air ionization chamber correction factor experimental method and Monte Carlo simulation method in the NIM. The experimental method and the Monte Carlo simulation method are adopted to obtain the correction factor for the medium-energy X-ray primary standard free-air ionization chamber at 100 kV, 135 kV, 180 kV, 250 kV four CCRI reference qualities. The correction factor has already been submitted to the APMP as key comparison data and the results are in good agreement with those obtained in previous studies. This study shows that the experimental method and the EGSnrc simulation method are usually used in the measurement of the correction factor. In particular, the application of the simulation methods is more common.

  • New method of volume measurement for reference weights of a pressure balance using a gas pycnometer is proposed. The result of volume measurement of proposed method shows the uncertainties of approximately 0.2% at the level of confidence of 95% for reference weights in the ranges of 1 kg, 2 kg, and 5 kg. This measuring system consists of a sample chamber, an expansion chamber, a precision pressure gage, a precison thermometer, a vacuum pump, and helium as a medium gas. The measurement principle of this proposed method is based on Boyle's law. This method will contribute a reliability of the volume measurements of reference weights for a pressure balance to the national measurement standard.
