  • The compression of video data is intended for real-time transmission of band-limited channels. Compressed video bit-streams are very sensitive to transmission error. If we lose packets or receive them with errors during transmission, not only the current frame will be corrupted, but also the error will propagate to succeeding frames due to the spatio-temporal predictive coding structure of sequences. Error detection and concealment is a good approach to reduce the bad influence on the reconstructed visual quality. To increase concealment efficiency, we need to get some more accurate error detection algorithm. In this paper, We hide specific data into the motion vector difference of each macro-block, which is obtained from the procedure of inter prediction mode in H.264/AVC. Then, the location of errors can be detected easily by checking transmitted specific data in decoder. We verified that the proposed algorithm generates good performances in PSNR and subjective visual quality through the computer simulation by H.324M mobile simulation tool.

  • In this paper, since we currently using surveillance system of analog type bring about waste of resource and efficiency deterioration problems, we describe new solution that design and implementation to the digital surveillance system of new type applying compression techniques and encoding techniques of image data using MPEG-2 international standard. Also, we proposed fast motion estimation algorithm requires much less than the convectional digital surveillance camera system. In this paper a fast motion estimation algorithm is proposed the MPEG-2 video encoding. This algorithm is based on a hybrid use of the block matching technique and gradient technique. Also, we describe a method of moving object extraction directly using MPEG-2 video data. Since proposed method is very simple and requires much less computational power than the conventional object detection methods. In this paper we don't use specific H/W and this system is possible only software encoding, decoding and transmission real-time for image data.

  • In this paper, we propose a deblocking filter hardware architecture for low-power HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding) in-loop for mobile systems. HEVC performs image compression on a block-by-block basis, resulting in blockage of the image due to quantization error. The deblocking filter is used to remove the blocking phenomenon in the image. Currently, UHD video service is supported in various mobile systems, but power consumption is high. The proposed low-power deblocking filter hardware structure minimizes the power consumption by blocking the clock to the internal module when the filter is not applied. It also has four parallel filter structures for high throughput at low operating frequencies and each filter is implemented in a four-stage pipeline. The proposed deblocking filter hardware structure is designed with Verilog HDL and synthesized using TSMC 65nm CMOS standard cell library, resulting in about 52.13K gates. In addition, real-time processing of 8K@84fps video is possible at 110MHz operating frequency, and operation power is 6.7mW.

  • In the paper, a Motion JPEG2000 coder which has been set as the standard for image compression by the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), an organization composed of major movie studios was implemented into a target FPGA. The DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) based on lifting and the Tier 1 of EBCOT (Embedded Block Coding with Optimized Truncation) which are major functional modules of the JPEG2000 were setup with dedicated hardware. The Tier 2 process was implemented in software. For digital cinema the tile-size was set to support $1024\times1024$ pixels. To ensure the real-time operations, three entropy encoders were used. When Verilog-HDL was used for hardware, resources of 32,470 LEs in Altera's Stratix EP1S80 were used, and the hardware worked stably at the frequency of 150Mhz.

  • In H.264 standard, an intra frame is the first frame of a GOP (Group of Pictures) and all macroblocks of an intra frame are encoded using the same quantization parameter. In addition, an intra frame is used for encoding the following frames of the same GOP so the encoding results of an intra frame affect the encoding results of the entire GOP. Thus, it is important to find the optimal quantization parameter of an intra frame for improving the quality of a GOP. In this paper, we propose an searching method for an optimal quantization parameter of an intra frame in real time. The proposed method uses a gradient descent method to find the optimal value based on characteristics of the optimal quantization parameters. Experimental results show that the proposed method captures the characteristics of the optimal quantization parameter and accurately estimates the optimal value.

  • This paper proposes an efficient binary arithmetic encoder hardware architecture for CABAC encoding, which is an entropy coding method of HEVC. CABAC is an entropy coding method that is used in HEVC standard. Entropy coding removes statistical redundancy and supports a high compression ratio of images. However, the binary arithmetic encoder causes a delay in real time processing and parallel processing is difficult because of the high dependency between data. The operation of the proposed CABAC BAE hardware structure is to separate the renormalization and process the conventional iterative algorithm in parallel. The new scheme was designed as a four-stage pipeline structure that can reduce critical path optimally. The proposed CABAC BAE hardware architecture was designed with Verilog HDL and implemented in 65nm technology. Its gate count is 8.07K and maximum operating speed of 769MHz. It processes the four bin per clock cycle. Maximum processing speed increased by 26% from existing hardware architectures.

  • This Study Propose A New Approach To Impliment A Intelligent Robot Control Based on Voice Recognition For Smart Factory Automation Since human usually communicate each other by voices, it is very convenient if voice is used to command humanoid robots or the other type robot system. A lot of researches has been performed about voice recognition systems for this purpose. Hidden Markov Model is a robust statistical methodology for efficient voice recognition in noise environments. It has being tested in a wide range of applications. A prediction approach traditionally applied for the text compression and coding, Prediction by Partial Matching which is a finite-context statistical modeling technique and can predict the next characters based on the context, has shown a great potential in developing novel solutions to several language modeling problems in speech recognition. It was illustrated the reliability of voice recognition by experiments for humanoid robot with 26 joints as the purpose of application to the manufacturing process.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the crack characteristics by performing the compression test of the rock and concrete specimens. The experiments are carried out by using strain sensors which can measure length change and the AE sensor which can detect the elastic wave from the crack. The crack volumetric strain calculated from measured strain is shown in different shape on the rock and the concrete specimens. This is because the specimens have a different degree of brittleness. However, the crack volumetric strain associated with the fracture and damage was similar to accumulated AE energy of the two specimens. This means that the AE sensor can assess damage in real time without damaging the structure.

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) is an important clinical technique performing artificial ventilation and chest compression on a patient under emergent situation before arriving in hospital. Since the quality of CPR significantly affects the survival rate, it would be of great advantage to monitor respiration in real time during CPR. However, currently applied respiratory air flow transducers are difficult to apply with sensing elements in the middle of the flow axis. The present study developed a new turbulent air flow transducer conveniently applicable to CPR. Abrupt changes in diameter of the flow tube generated turbulence in air flow, thereby pressure difference was obtained to estimate the air flow rate, with no physical object on the flow plane. Expiration and inspiration were separated by the direction of the pressure difference, resulting in good symmetry. Pressure-flow relationship was tested on a quadratic model, which provided accurate enough estimation results. Therefore, the present turbulent air flow transducer seemed appropriate to monitor respiration during CPR.

  • Thermal stress and elastic creeping stress analysis was conducted by finite element method to simulate start-up process of a boiler header of 500MW standard fossil power plant. Start-up temperature and operating pressure history were simplified from the real field data and they were used for the thermal stress analysis. Two kinds of thermal stress analysis were considered. In the first case only temperature increase was considered and in the second case both of temperature and operating pressure histories were considered. In the first analysis peak stress was occurred during the temperature increase from the room temperature. Hence cracking or fracture may occur at the temperature far below the operating maximum temperature. In the results of the second analysis von Mises stress appeared to be higher after the second temperature increase. This is due to internal pressure increase not due to the thermal stress. When the stress components of radial(r), hoop($\theta$) and longitudinal(z) stress were investigated, compression hoop stress was occurred at inner surface of the stub tube when the temperature increased from room temperature to elevated temperature. Then it was changed to tension hoop stress and increased because of the operating pressure. It was expected that frequent start-up and shut-down operations could cause thermal fatigue damage and cracking at the stub tube hole in the header. Elastic-creeping analysis was also carried out to investigate the stress relaxation due to creep and stabilized stress after considerable elapsed time. The results could be used for assessing the creep damage and the residual life of the boiler header during the long-tenn service.
