  • Radioactive corrosion product specimens were analyzed using an electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) and X-ray image mapping. It is difficult to analyze the composition of radioactive corrosion products using an EPMA due to the size and rough shape of the surfaces. It is particularly challenging to analyze the composition of radioactive corrosion products in the form of piled up, small grains. However, useful results can be derived by applying a semi-quantitative analysis method using an EPMA with X-ray images. A standard-less, semi-quantitative method for wavelength dispersive spectrometry. EPMA analysis was developed with the objective of simplifying the analytical procedure required. In this study, we verified the reasonable theory of semi-quantitative analysis and observed the semi-quantitative results using a sample with a good surface condition. Based on the validated results, we analyzed highly rough-surface radioactive corrosion products and assessed their composition. Finally, the usefulness of the semi-quantitative analysis was reviewed by verifying the results of the analysis of radioactive corrosion products collected from spent nuclear fuel rods.

  • An aerial image simulator for the synchroton X-ray proximity lithography system has been developed. The modal expansion method and Rayleigh-Sommerfeld diffraction theory are used in calculating the aerial image which is formed by diffracting of the partially coherent X-ray, Experimental results of PALC(POSTECH Advanced Lithography Center) lighography system and simulated results are compared. The experimental and theoretical values of the width of replicated lines are consisted with the relative error less than ~5%. The method to determine the divergent angle of X-ray from the analysis of the width of replicated lines is given.

  • The model for the combined refraction and diffraction of water waves, the so-called mild-slope equation, was first developed by Berkhoff (1972) and has been studied by many coastal engineers because the model is able to consider the combined effect of refraction and diffraction of water waves and eliminate the problem of ray crossing which may happen in the previously developed ray theory. • By a change of variables we obtain new $y$-coordinates of elliptic curves. Utilizing these $y$-coordinates as meromorphic modular functions, together with the elliptic modular function, we generate the fields of meromorphic modular functions. Furthermore, by means of the special values of the $y$-coordinates, we construct the ray class fields over imaginary quadratic fields as well as normal bases of these ray class fields.

  • The new method of x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) [1] is developed recently for probing the dynamics of surface height fluctuations as a function of lateral length scale. Measurements were performed on supported polystyrene (PS) films of thicknesses varying from 84 to 333 nm at temperatures above the PS glass transition temperature. Within a range of wave vectors spanning $10^{-3}$ to $10^{-2}$ $nm^{-1}$, good agreement is found between the measured surface dynamics and the theory of overdamped thermal capillary waves on thin films. Quantitatively, the data can be accounted for using the viscosity of bulk PS. (omitted)

  • Let K be an imaginary quadratic field other than ℚ(${\sqrt{-1}}$) and ℚ(${\sqrt{-3}}$), and let 𝒪K be its ring of integers. Let N be a positive integer such that N = 5 or N ≥ 7. In this paper, we generate the ray class field modulo N𝒪K over K by using a single x-coordinate of an elliptic curve with complex multiplication by 𝒪K.

  • We have studied the long-term X-ray light curve (2-10 keV) of the luminous Seyfert 1 galaxy MCG-2-58-22 by compiling data, from various X-ray satellites, which together cover more than 20 years. We have found two distinct types of time variations in the light curve. One is a gradual and secular decrease of the X-ray flux, and the other is the episodic increase of X-ray flux (or flare) by a factor of 2-4 compared with the level expected from the secular variation. We detected 3 such flares in total; a representative duration for the flares is $\~$2 years, with intervening quiescent intervals lasting $\~$6-8 years. We discuss a few possible origins for these variabilities. Though a standard disk instability theory may explain the displayed time variability in the X-ray light curve, the subsequent accretions of stellar debris, from a tidal disruption event caused by a supermassive black hole in MCG-2-58-22, cannot be ruled out as an alternative explanation.

  • The synthesis, X-ray crystallography, spectroscopic (IR, UV-vis), and electrochemical properties of the title compound, $[H_3O][Cr(dipic)_2][H_3O^+.Cl^-]$ (1), ($H_2dipic$ = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid), are reported. This complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Cc with a = 14.9006(10) ${\AA}$, b = 12.2114(8) ${\AA}$, c = 8.6337(6) ${\AA}$, ${\alpha}=90.00^{\circ}$, ${\beta}=92.7460(10)^{\circ}$, ${\gamma}=90.00^{\circ}$, and V = 1569.16(18) ${\AA}^3$ with Z = 4. The hydrogen bonding and noncovalent interactions play roles in the stabilization of the structure. In order to gain a better understanding of the most important geometrical parameters in the structure of the complex, atoms in molecules (AIM) method at B3LYP/6-31G level of theory has been employed.

  • Inactivation of the glutamic acid dehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme-molecules in the Ehrlich ascites tumor cells of the mouse were studied. The above mentioned intracellular enzymemolecules were irradiated by the X-ray radiation under the condition of 65 kV, I Amp. under the atmosphere of nitrogen gases and by $4^{\circ}C$. Thereby, irradiation doses were 580 KR/min($error:{\pm}3%$). After irradiation, the cell homogentes were prepared through liquid air techniquese. There after, the activities of the enzymes were measured with photometric method given by O. Warburg and W. Christian. The dose effect curves of the activities of the two enzymes by the X-ray irradiation showed both exponential and the inactivation doses were $6,5.10^{0}\;and\;5,0.10^{6}$ R respectively. These results showed one side that the inactivation process of the intracelluar enzymemolecules was one hit reaction after target theory, and the other side that this inactivation process could not be the primary causes of the death through X-ray irradiation of the vertebrate animals, because of the high resistance of the intracellular protein molecules against X-ray irradiation. The one hit reaction by the inactivation process of the irradiated intracellular enzymemolecules was discussed.
