  • A new dual-slope ramp (DSR) reset waveform is proposed to improve the dark room contrast ratio in AC-PDPs. The proposed reset waveform has two different voltage slopes during a ramp-up period. The first voltage slope is lower than the conventional ramp voltage slope, causing a reduction in the background luminance, whereas the second voltage slope is higher than the conventional ramp voltage slope, causing an increase in the background luminance. Thus, a bias voltage is also applied during the second voltage-slope period to adjust the background luminance and address discharge characteristics. As a result, the proposed dual-slope reset waveform can lower the background luminance, thereby improving the high dark room contrast ratio of an AC-PDP without reducing the address voltage margin

  • Although the height of a ramp is an important design element, it has not been considered in prior studies. Therefore, in this study, the ramp slope and height are considered as independent variables. To analyze the effects of the slope and height, five levels of slope (1:6, 1:8, 1:10, 1:12 and 1:14) and three levels of height (15cm, 30cm and 45cm) are considered. For the dependent variables, the total time, velocity and perceived discomfort were considered as usability measures, pulse rate changes and EMG signals of four related muscles (extensor carpi radialis, triceps brachii, anterior deltoid and posterior deltoid) were considered as physiology measures. As a result, differences among usability and physiological characteristic for the five slopes increased as the height increased. Additionally, slope effects were minor when the height was low (15cm). Almost domestic/international regulations and guidelines related to ramp recommended 1:12 slope for the ramp design, however, there was no significant difference between 1:10 and 1:12 according to result of this study. In addition, slope effects were minor at a low height; thus, a slope of 1:8 can be recommended if the installation space for a gentler ramp is not sufficient.

  • Steep and narrow ramp installed in the paddy field makes it difficult and sometimes dangerous to drive agricultural machines on it. Because agricultural machinery become larger and heavier, it is necessary to revise design standard for ramp to provide safe travel. This study was conducted to revise the design standard fur paddy field ramp, especially for its width and slope. A mathematical model predicting travelling path of a tractor on paddy field ramp and farm road was developed and simulated. To verify this model, field tests were carried out. The model could predict trvelling path with RMS Error of 12.5cm and 8.2cm, which were judged to be adoptable fur determining the width of paddy field ramp. By applying this model to 110ps tractor, which was assumed to be the largest tractor in Korea, width of paddy field ramp was determined as over 3.6m. The slope of paddy field ramp, which provided tractor with 10% of the total weight of the tractor and the mounted implement as reaction force at front wheel against ground was analyzed by considering weight transfer effect on a ramp. The result showed that adequate slope of paddy field ramp was 14°.

  • Purpose: The ramp is an important facility for the barrier free access and vertical circulation of users of various buildings, including users of walker, wheelchair users, stroller users, and baggage carriers. The installation standards for ramps in Korea have various problems during construction and BF certification. It is necessary to improve the criteria for ensuring practical mobility and safety. Method: Korean standard, International Standard(ISO 21542, 2011), German Standard(DIN 18040-1, 2010), Austrian Standard(OENORM B 1600, 2017), Swiss Standard(Norm SIA 500, 2009), Canadian Standard(Building Standards Guide, 2017), American Standard(ADA Standards, 2010) were investigated and analyzed. A comprehensive improvement of the ramp installation standards is proposed. Results: The ramp is a necessary facility for the barrier free access and vertical circulation of the disabled. It shall be installed with comprehensive consideration of the appropriate slope of the ramp, the distance of the continuous slope, the handle and upstand for pedestrian safety. In order to improve convenience, setting the proper slope and limiting the length of the slope are very important, and improvements are required to the levels presented by international and foreign standards. The unclear standards of Korean law and BF certification standards should be clearly improved so as not to be misinterpreted in construction and Barrier Free Certification. Implication: International and foreign standards should be reviewed to ensure practical mobility and safety. And comprehensive improvement measures should be presented through continuous research.

  • L/UL(Load/unload) mechanism has been widely used in SFF(Small form factor) HDD because L/UL technology has many advantages such as an increase of areal density, reduction of power consumption and improvement of shock resistance. In this system, the most important design goal is no slider-disk contact and fast air-hearing breaking during L/UL process. To do so, we should consider many design parameters related to L/UL system. The ramp shape is the most dominant component among parameters which dramatically affect the L/UL performance. This paper makes an advanced ramp model using ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Through this FE model, this paper investigates the effect of initial ramp slope and location of air-bearing breaking. From the experiment for three different ramps, we also verify that experimental results agree with simulation results. We conclude that the ramp design should have small ramp slope at the moment which a suspension tap contacts with ramp and large ramp slope after air-bearing breaking in order to improve L/UL Performance.

  • The slope of the ramp generator in a single slope ADC(analog-to-digital converter) suffers from process and frequency variation. This variation in ramp slope causes ADC gain variation and eventually limits the performance of the ISP(image signal processing) in a CIS(CMOS image sensor) that uses the single slope ADC. This paper proposes a ramp slope BISC(built-in-self-calibration) scheme for CIS. The CIS with proposed BISC was fabricated with a $0.35{\mu}m$ process. The measurement results show that the proposed architecture effectively calibrate the ramp slope against process and clock frequency variation. The silicon area overhead is less than $0.7\%$ of the full chip area.

  • This study, in order to evaluate the safety of evacuation by comparing and analyzing the RSET according to the slope change of the ramp, which is a vertical evacuation route in case of fire in a high school building, Evacuation simulation was run the Pathfinder program changed the slope of the ramp to 10°, 15°, and 20° for each male students and female students. In the case of female students, it was analyzed that when the final RSET slope was 15°, 25.7 seconds were shorter than when 10°, and 4.2 seconds were shorter than when 20°. Male students also found that when the final RSET slope was 15°, 23.8 seconds were shorter than when 10°, and 5.4 seconds shorter than when 20°. It was analyzed that even if the number of participants was increased and the evacuation simulation was executed, the safety of evacuation could be improved when the slope of the slope is 15° as the RSET when the slope of the slope is 15° is shorter than that of 10° and 20°.

  • A new reset waveform with negative ramp pulse is proposed. Conventional reset waveform applied to the commercial PDP uses a positive ramp pulse. The reset waveforms, especially focused on ramp area, were examined with 2 dimensional fluid code. The proposed negative reset waveform showed much lower ignition voltage ($\sim$70V) as compared with the conventional reset waveform. When the negative ramp pulse was applied, all of the positive-charged ions are collected on the scan electrode. It is found that the ignition voltage of reset discharge due to the negative ramp pulse became lower than that of positive ramp discharge.

  • Background: Many tasks in industrial and health care setting are involved with pushing and pulling tasks up or down on a ramp. An efficient method of moving cart which reduces the risk of low back pain should be concerned. This study aimed to investigate the effects of handling types (HTs) and slope on lumbar spinal load during moving a cart on a ramp. We conducted a 2 × 2 × 4 factorial design with three main factors: 2 HTs, 2 handling directions of moving a cart and 4 degrees of ramp slope. Methods: Thirty healthy male workers performed 14 tasks consist of moving a cart up and down on the ramp of 0°, 10°, 15°, and 20° degrees with pushing and pulling methods. Joint angles from a 3D motion capture system combined with subject height, body weight, and hand forces were used to calculate the spinal load by the 3DSSPP program. Results: Our results showed significant effect of HT, handling directions and slope on compression and shear force of the lumbar spine (p < 0.001). When the ramp gradient increased, the L4/5 compression forces increased in both pushing and pulling (p < 0.001) Shear forces increased in pulling and decreased in pushing in all tasks. At high slopes, pulling generated more compression and shear forces than that of pushing (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Using the appropriate technique of moving a cart on the ramp can reduce the risk of high spinal load, and the pushing is therefore recommended for moving a cart up/down on ramp gradients.

  • Driving Waveform of AC PDP in reset periode is increased and decreased with constant slope to improve dark room contrast ratio and image quality. But the slope and magnitude of ramp waveform are related to strong and weak discharge with temperature change in AC PDP. So this paper proposes a methods of changing the slope and magnitude of ramp waveform during reset periode according to temperature change in AC PDP. Experimental variable factors ire chosen to setup slope, setdown slope, and -Vy voltage magnitude in Y sustain electrode. The proposed methods are expected to compensate for effect of the temperature change, causing misfiring in high and low temprature, with varing the slope and magnitude of ramp voltage during reset period and improve image quality.
