Recently, alternative fuels are drawing more attentions due to the increasing need for lower emission characteristics and fuel consumption rate in automotive engines. The GTL(gas to luquid) is the one of most favored candidates. It has higher cetane number(more than 75) and almost negligible sulphur and aromatic contents. Therefore, enhanced emission characteristics are expected even in the application in diesel engines without any modification. In this study, the cylinder pressure and heat release, emission characteristics with fuel injection timings are compared between diesel and GTL fuel in the single cylinder diesel engine. Noticeable reduction in PM, THC and CO emission are observed due to lower sulphur and aromatic contents in GTL. Also, the ignition delay decreased due to higher cetane number of GTL, which slightly decreased the amount of NOx emissions. With the retards of main injection timing, NOx decreases more for the case of GTL, while the level of THC and CO emissions still remains lower than the case of diesel. Therefore, there is much room for the control of injection timing for NOx reduction without sacrificing THC and CO emissions. With the retards of main injection timing, Small size distribution of PM became lager and there amount increased. But from all conditions, size distribution of PM for the case GTL was lower than Diesel.

The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of mixed fuel composition and mass fraction on spray inner structure in evaporating transient spray under the variant ambient conditions. Spray structure and spatial distribution of liquid phase concentration were investigated using a thin laser sheet illumination technique on the three component mixed fuels. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser was used as a light source. The experiments were conducted in a constant volume vessel with optical access. Fuel was injected into the vessel with electronically controlled common rail injector. Used fuel contains i-octane($C_8H_{18}$), n-dodecane($C_{12}H_{26}$) and n-hexadecane($C_{16}H_{34}$) that were selected as low-, middle- and high-boiling point fuel, respectively. Experimental conditions are 42 MPa, 72 MPa and 112 MPa in injection pressure, $5\;kg/m^3$, $15kg/m^3$ and $30kg/m^3$ in ambient gas density, 300 K, 500 K, 600 K and 700 K in ambient gas temperature, 300 K and 368 K in fuel temperature and different fuel mass fraction. Experimental results indicated that the multi-component fuels made two phase region mixed vapor and liquid so that it would are helpful to improve combustion, for the fuels of high boiling point component could accelerate evaporation very much according as low boiling point fuel was added to high boiling point fuel.
Finite element analysis was undertaken to investigate the effect of freezing force of water unexpectedly penetrated into inserts used in railway sleeper on pullout capacity of anchor bolts for fixing base-plate onto concrete sleeper. Based on the in-situ investigation and measurement of geometry of railway sleeper and rail-fastener, the railway sleeper was modeled by 3D solid elements. Nonlinear and fracture properties for the finite element model were assumed according to CEB-FIP 1990 model code. And the pullout maximum load of anchor bolt obtained from the model developed was compared with experimental pullout maximum load presented by KRRI for verification of the model. Using this model, the effect of position of anchor bolt, amount of fastening force applied to the anchor bolt, and compressive strength of concrete on pull-out capacity of anchor bolts installed in railway sleeper was investigated. As a result, it is found that concrete railway sleepers could be damaged by the pressure due to freezing of water penetrated into inserts. And the pullout capacity of anchor bolt close to center of railway is slightly greater than that of the others.
Installing the temporary bridge after excavating the railway requires installing movable cross beam, but as it doesn't requires isolating the catenary or cutting the rail, it's applicable to double-track with frequent operation. In this study, a displacement meter was placed on temporary bridge to monitor the displacement pattern in curve section (R400) completed using temporary bridge method, and wheel load, lateral pressure and derailment coefficient were measured to evaluate the load imposed on track and the stability in curve section (R400) for quantitative evaluation of training running safety. As a result of the measurement, when trains passing over a temporary bridge, the maximum value of Wheel load and Lateral Force is analyzed as the 51% and 81% of standard level according to foreign country's performance tests, There is no trouble with stability analysis in Wheel load and Lateral Force occurring. Additionally, Wheel load and Lateral Force considered as the safety standard are tested 49% of limiting value regardless of trains, which the norm value quite well, there is no problem with train running.

In a CNG/diesel dual-fuel engine, CNG is used as the main fuel and a small amount of diesel is injected into the cylinder to provide ignition priming. In this study, a remodeling of the existing diesel engine into a CNG/diesel dual-fuel engine is proposed. In this engine, diesel is injected at a high pressure by common rail direct injection (CRDI) and CNG is injected at the intake port for premixing. The CNG/diesel dual-fuel engine had an equally satisfactory coordinate torque and power as the conventional diesel engine. Moreover, the CNG alternation rate is over 89% throughout the operating range of the CNG/diesel dual-fuel engine. PM emission by the dual-fuel engine is 94% lower than that by the diesel engine; however, NOx emission by the dual-fuel engine is higher than that by the diesel engine.

Most diesel injector, which is currently used in high-pressure common rail fuel injection system of diesel engine, is driven by the solenoid coil energy for its needle movement. The main disadvantage of this solenoid-driven injector is a high power consumption, high power loss through solenoid coil and relatively fixed needle response's problem. In this study, a prototype piezo-driven injector, as a new injector mechanism driven by piezoelectric energy based on the concept of inverse piezo-electric effect, has been designed and fabricated to know the effect of piezo-driven injection processes on the diesel spray structure and internal nozzle flow. Firstly we investigated the spray characteristics in a constant volume chamber pressurized by nitrogen gas using the back diffusion light illumination method for high-speed temporal photography and also analyzed the inside nozzle flow by a fully transient simulation with cavitation model using VOF(volume of fraction) method. The numerical calculation has been performed to simulate the cavitating flow of 3-dimensional real size single hole nozzle along the injection duration. Results were compared between a conventional solenoid-driven injector and piezo-driven injector, both equipped with the same micro-sac multi-hole injection nozzle. The experimental results show that the piezo-driven injector has short injection delay and a faster spray development and produces higher injection velocity than the solenoid-driven injector. And the predicted simulation results with the degree of cavitation's generation inside nozzle for faster needle response In a piezo-driven injector were reflected to spray development in agreement with the experimental spray images.

Non-esterified biodiesel fuel is cheaper than esterified that because of a simple manufacturing process that only consists of filtering. Applicability of this on diesel engine with electronic control system was accomplished, then optimization adopting a fractional factorial design and response surface methodology was carried out at 25% and 50% of engine load in this study. Pressure of common rail and injection timing mainly effected on responses as specific fuel oil consumption and nitrogen oxides regardless of engine load. Estimations were 310.3 g/kWh of specific fuel oil consumption and 237 ppm of nitrogen oxides at 25% load, and 233.2 g/kWh of specific fuel oil consumption and 730 ppm of nitrogen oxides at 50% load. Tests to verify these estimations were accomplished and as the results, specific fuel oil consumption was 300.4 g/kWh and NOx was 277 ppm at 25% load and 236.8 g/kWh and 573 ppm at 50% load.
The purpose of this study is experimentally to analyze that the fuel mass fractions of multi-component mixed fuels have an effect on the characteristics of spray ignition and combustion under the ambient conditions of diesel combustion fields. The characteristics of ignition and combustion were investigated by chemiluminescence images and direct photography. The experiments were conducted in the RCEM(rapid compression expansion machine) with optical access. Multi-component fuels mixed with i-octane, n-dodecane and n-hexadecane are injected in RCEM by the electronic control of common rail injector. Experimental conditions set up 42, 72 and 112 MPa in injection pressure, 700, 800 and 900 K in ambient gas temperature. The results show that the ignition delay was dependent on high cetane number. In case of low ambient temperature, the more low boiling point fuels were mixed, the lower luminance regime had a remarkable effect and also shortened diffusion combustion by increasing heat release rate.
The construction of high speed railways and improvement projects of for conventional railways require straight railway lines of railway, which leads to an increase of bridge and tunnel construction. Transition zones in railways means that the track support stiffness is variedvaries in over short ranges. Sspecial attention is required in theose transition zones since because instability of train running in train and irregularities of track irregularities are can frequently occurred. Typical transition zones are between bridges and earthworks and between tunnels and earthworks. On In a transition zone, a bridge abutment transition zone has many problems in with various causes. In this paper, fundamental problems of bridge abutment transition zones is are analyzed to enhance the understanding about of bridge abutment transition zones. Suggestions for improving problems in the transition zones are proposed.

Recently, the study on the commercialization technology of Rope Platform Screen Door (RPSD) is on the process. The study is specifically on RPSD, which the rope screen ascends to allow passage with securing safety of passenger and the condition of aboveground station. For this human-centered design of RPSD, it is important to present system technology. However, it is also necessary to scientifically measure and research the emotions, senses or minds of users in the future. Therefore, this study analyzed the human factors to be considered with designing the system on RPSD, which is installed in Nokdong Station on Gwangju Subway as a trial. Moreover, the emotional evaluation was done by analyzing the factors as how they are effected in general; it processed by checking whether it is safe, height of rope is stable, it has openness (pressure) or strong by examining the moments that a set of ropes blocks rail from platform, and when train is arrived.
