The main objective of this paper is come up with methodology approach for FPGA-based system in verification and validation lifecycle regarding software reliability using system engineering approach. The steps of both reverse engineering and re-engineering are carried out to implement an FPGA-based of safety critical system in Nuclear Power Plant. The reverse engineering methodology is applied to elicit the requirements of the system as well as gain understanding of the current life cycle and V&V activities of FPGA based-system. The re-engineering method is carried out to get a new methodology approach of software reliability, particularly Software Reliability Growth Model. For measure the software reliability of a given FPGA-based system, the following steps are executed as; requirements definition and measurement, evaluation of candidate reliability model, and the validation of the selected system. As conclusion, a new methodology approach for software reliability measurement using software reliability growth model is developed.
This paper intents to suggest the re-engineering methodology to transform and integrate the legacy systems to new system in modern environment. While existing reverse engineering and re-engineering approaches have focused on analyzing and maintaining the source code of program. our methodology can provide the procedures and techniques for evolving into new system by recovering the reverse engineering informations and transforming them into component informations. Our methodology for componentization of legacy system is consisted of plan step, reverse engineering step, componentization step, and delivery step, and we describes activities and detail procedures about each step.
The various software engineering techniques have been come out in order to cope with the software crisis since 1980's. The software Engineering has focused on the process of software component development. The process products a development guide for a quality and productive improvement of software. But, most of the methodologies assume that a new system will be constructed and reused in the future. these do not actually support efficiently how we reuse legacy system's resources and construct a new system. In this paper, we present an efficient Reengineering Process for reusing legacy systems, RUP+re, which extends and customizes RUP. Rup+re consists of Reverse Engineering Workflow, Re-Engineering Workflow and forward Engineering Process. We describe RUP+re's workflows with their own detail steps and verify them practically through the case study. So, we provide efficient guidelines to the software Reengineering process construction which reuses the resources of a legacy system.
This paper describes rapid prototyping (RP) and reverse engineering (RE) application for orthopedic surgery planning to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the orthopedic surgery. Using the symmetrical characteristics of the human body, CAD data of undamaged bone of the injured area are generated from a mirror transformation of undamaged bone data for the uninjured area. The physical model before the injury is manufactured from Poly jet RP process. The surgical plan, including the selection of the proper implant, pre-forming of the implant and decision of fixation positions, etc., is determined by a physical simulation using the physical model. In order to examine the applicability and efficiency of the surgical planning technology, two case studies, such as a distal tibia comminuted fracture and an iliac wing fracture of pelvis, are carried out. From the results of the examination, it has been shown that the RP and RE can be applied to orthopedic surgical planning and can be an efficient surgical tool.

The design models of a new product in general are created using clay models or wooden mock-ups. The reverse engineering(RE) technology enables us to quickly create the CAD model of the new product by capturing the surface of the model using laser digitizers or coordinate measuring machines. Rapid prototyping (RP) is another technology that can reduce the product development time by fabricating the physical prototype of a part using a layered manufacturing technique. In reverse engineering process, however, the digitizer generates an enormous amount of point data, and it is time consuming and also inefficient to create surfaces out of these data. In addition, the surfacing operation takes a great deal of time and skill and becomes a bottleneck. In rapid prototyping, a faceted model called STL file has been the industry standard for providing the CAD input to RP machines. It approximates the CAD model of a part using many planar triangular patches and has drawbacks. A novel procedure that overcomes these problems and integrates RE with RP is proposed. Algorithms that drastically reduce the point clouds data have been developed. These methods will facilitate the use of reverse engineered geometric data for rapid prototyping, and thereby will contribute in reducing the product development time.
The various software engineering techniques have been come out in order to cope with the software crisis since 1980's. These days the software Engineering has focused on the process of software development which is the guide for a qualify and productive improvement of software. RUP+re consists of Reverse Engineering Workflow, Transformation Workflow and Evolution Workflow based on Small-h model. We describe RUP+re's workflows with their own detail steps and verify the process through the case study practivally. So, we provide efficient guidelines to the software Reengineering process construction which evolutes the resources of a legacy system.

Reverse engineering (RE) is a process to create computer aided design (CAD) models from the scanned data of an existing part acquired using 3D position scanners. This paper proposes a novel methodology of extracting geometric features directly from a set of 3D scanned points, which utilizes the concepts of feature-based technology and artificial neural networks (ANNs). The use of ANN has enabled the development of a flexible feature-based RE application that can be trained to deal with various features. The following four main tasks were mainly investigated and implemented: (1) Data reduction; (2) edge detection; (3) ANN-based feature recognition; (4) feature extraction. This approach was validated with a variety of real industrial components. The test results show that the developed feature-based RE application proved to be suitable for reconstructing prismatic features such as block, pocket, step, slot, hole, and boss, which are very common and crucial in mechanical engineering products.

Software reuse techniques make reapplication of various well-organized information knowledge to system development so that improve productivity and make it easy to maintain software. This paper describes the design and implementation of CSORUS(C and C++ SOurce ReUse System) which can extract reuse components using reverse engineering, and store, retrieve, merge them written with C of C++ programming language. The construction components using reverse engineering has advantage in quality assurance because they are reliable components already tested in real environments.
In order to reduce the cost of corrections and time needed for the block assembly process, the reverse setting method is applied for a back-heated block to neutralize deck deformation. The proper reverse setting shape for a back-heated block to correct deformation improved the deck flatness, but an excessive amount of reverse setting could inversely affect the flatness of the block. A prediction method was developed for the proper reverse setting shape using a back-heated block, considering the complex geometry of blocks, thickness of the deck plate, and thermal loading conditions such as welding and back-heating. The prediction method was developed by combining the re-meshing technique and inherent strain-based deformation analysis using the finite element method. Because the flatness deviation was decreased until the lower critical point and thereafter it tended to increase again, the optimum value for which the flatness was the best case was selected by repeatedly calculating the predefined reverse setting values. Based on this analysis and the study of the back-heating deformation of large assembly blocks, including the reverse setting shape, the mechanism for selecting the optimum reverse setting value was identified. The developed method was applied to the actual blocks of a ship, and it was confirmed that the flatness of the block was improved. It is concluded that the developed prediction method can be used to predict the optimum reverse setting shape value of a ship's block, which will reduce the cost of corrections in the construction stage.

It is difficult to make shape library for featrue-based modeling because free-form surface is various shaped complicated To make modeling using similar shape feature-based model is easy and fast. Recently RE(Reverse Engineering) technolo-gy is very convenient method to get free-form surface. This study develops surface editor which makes surface modeling to manipulate control points and this study We study on the effective model data management using database system.
