  • PURPOSE: The purpose of study was to clear up the environmental risk factor that can be easily occurred unstability of hip during gait and one leg standing at various ramp angle. METHODS: Twenties healthy males of 69 subjects is participated in this study. Participants was measured activation on gluteus medius muscle during both conditions (walk across the ramp and one leg stand in the transverse direction) of seven different angle. The measured data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA to investigate the effect of muscle activation on the each condition. The statistical analyses were performed using SPSS ver. 18.0 and p-value less than .05 were considered significant for all cases. A post-hoc test was performed by Bonferoni method. RESULTS: The study showed that more muscle activities on gluteus medius is increased by increasing the ramp angle. Post-hoc analysis demonstrated that the peak and mean of muscle activity increased significantly with a ramp angle of $15^{\circ}$ and $25^{\circ}$ during gait and one-leg stand. CONCLUSION: According to the study results, impaired balance can be easily occurred when cross walk and one-leg stand on a ramp from higher than $15^{\circ}$, and highest risk was angle of $25^{\circ}$ or more. As a people with gluteus medius muscle weakness walks a ramp, the ramp angle has a cross relationship with the impaired balance. If people with gluteus medius weakness walk on the more than $10^{\circ}$ of ramp angle, they will need a lot of attention for prevent impaired balance.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the influences on gait features during mobile phone use while ramp walking. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Thirty-three healthy adult subjects performed four walking conditions on an outside ramp with a 5 m length, 1.5 m width, and a $5^{\circ}$ angle. All participants were touch screen mobile phone users. Four walking conditions were used: 1) ramp ascent, 2) ramp descent, 3) texting during ramp ascent, and 4) texting during ramp descent. In conditions 3) and 4), subjects texted the words of "Aegukga"-the song of patriotism-while walking. Upon the signal of start, the subjects walked the ramp during texting. Gait parameters were measured at the length of 3 m excluding 1 m of the start and end of the total length. Each situation was repeated three times for each subject, and mean values were calculated. For gait examination, a gait analyzer was used (OptoGait). Results: Subjects ranged in age from 23 to 38 years (mean age, 27.73). Eighty-three percent of subjects in our study had experienced an accident during mobile phone use. Texting on a mobile phone while walking significantly decreased ramp gait, speed, cadence, stride length, step length, and single support (p<0.05) and significantly increased stride time, step time, gait cycle, and double support (p<0.05). There was a significant difference in cadence, step length, stride time, step time, and single support during ramp ascent and descent (p<0.05). Conclusions: Texting on a mobile phone while walking significantly decreased gait quality.

  • The objective of study is to examine relationship between traffic flow characteristics of two lane entrance terminal and acceleration length, and to suggest the acceleration length by level of service. The relationship between the speed ratio and the distance from the ramp appeared to be a quadratic concave from. In the case of two lane entrance ramp, the acceleration length is suggested as 1.4~2.0 times longer than the acceleration length of one lane entrance ramp. It is also recommended that acceleration length for two lane entrance ramp should be designed according to the level of service at the right most lane (level of service A : 1.4 B : 1.6 C : 1.8 D : 2.0 times of the one lane entrance ramp acceleration length) on freeway.

  • Ribosome-associated membrane protein 4 (RAMP4) is a membrane protein that exposes its N-terminal hydrophilic portion on the cytoplasmic side and spans the membrane close to the C-terminal end. RAMP4 has previously been reported to belong to the set of proteins that remains associated with membrane-bound ribosomes, and controls the glycosylation of major histocompatbility complex class II-associated invariant chain. RAMP4 also may be relative to the stabilization of membrane proteins in response to stress, with other components of translocon, and molecular chaperons in ER. Application of 5'-RACE technique with specially designed primer, we cloned a 715 bp cDNA fragment which contains a 195 bp ORF, termed RAMP4. The deduced protein has 64 amino acid residues and contains a putative transmembrane-spanning domain at the COOH terminus.

  • In this paper, we investigate how generators' ramp-rate constraints may influence their equilibrium strategy formulation. In the market model proposed in this study, the generators' ramp-rate constraints are explicitly represented. In order to fully characterize the inter-temporal nature of the ramp-rate constraints, a dynamic game model is presented. The subgame perfect Nash equilibrium is adopted as the solution of the game and the backward induction procedure for the solution of the game is designed in this paper. The inter-temporal nature of the ramp-rate constraints results in the Markov property of the game, and we have found that the Markov property of the game significantly simplifies the subgame perfect Nash equilibrium characterization. Finally, a simple electricity market numerical illustration is presented for the successful application of the approach proposed.

  • A new reset waveform is proposed for reducing the reset period. A square pulse is applied to the address electrode while reset pulse ramps and before a discharge between the sustain electrodes occurs. The square pulse induces a discharge between the address electrode and the X electrode, and the induced wall charge is opposite to the applied ramp pulse. Thus, the next discharge between the sustain electrodes becomes weaker. The weaker discharge lowers background luminance and improves contrast ratio. Thus, the new reset waveform can reduce ramp up time in the ramp reset waveform The experimental results show that the ramp up time can be reduced by about 90% compared with the conventional ramp reset waveform.

  • The voltage controlled ramp(VCR) waveform has recently been introduced in the reset period prior to addressing for plasma display. However, this method results in the oscillation of the gap voltage when the ramp rate is increased so as to reduce reset period. In this paper a current controlled ramp(CCR) waveform method in the reset period is suggested. This method can suppress the oscillation of gap voltage under the condition of shorter ramp time. Moreover, the reset time can be reduced by about 30 % compared with the VCR method under the same background luminance.

  • The mixing enhancement is one of the most important problems for the development of scramjet engines. The influence of the streamwise vortices produced by a ramp in a unheated supersonic flow on the mixing of twin jets injected from its base was experimentally investigated. Nominal Mach number of the main airstream and of the twin jets at the nozzle exits were 2.35 and 2.0, respectively. Three dimensional velocity distributions near the ramp with and without injection were measured by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). A pair of counter rotating streamwise vortices could be seen behind the injector without injection. On the other hand, two pairs of streamwise vortices could be seen with injection. The outer one had the same direction as the vortex pair produced by the ramp, but they were stronger than those produced by the ramp. The inner ones had the opposite directions to the outer ones. It is considered that these vortices enhance the mixing near the injector.

  • There are many benefits such as increased areal density, reduced power consumption, applied smaller size and improved shock resistance in Load/Unload(L/UL) mechanism. It has been the key technology of developing small form factor hard disk drive used in portable digital devices. The main objectives of L/UL are no slider-disk contact and faster L/UL process. For realizing those, we must consider many design parameters in L/UL systems. In this paper, we focus on the effects of ramp profile. We can investigate dynamic characteristics of suspension tap and slider on ramp during unloading process experimentally. In special, we examine the effects of vortical velocities, ramp slopes and disk vibrations. As the result of these experiments, we propose design criteria of advanced ramp profile for good unloading performance.
