Methods: 225 mothers of toddlers completed questionnaires on parent-teacher relationships and parenting efficacy. This study used technical statistics, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis in order to analyze the collected data. Results: First, there was a significant correlation between parent-teacher relationships and mothers' parenting efficacy. Second, the parent-teacher relationships was an important factor in predicting mothers' parenting efficacy. In particular, when a teacher and mother develop practical collaboration for caring for and educating a child, the mothers' parenting efficacy was higher. Conclusion/Implications: These findings indicate that the parent-teacher relationship is a significant factor in order to improve the quality of parenting. The results especially support the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents and suggest that we need to find practical ways for collaborating in the field. Limitations of this study and implications for future research were discussed.

Second, the teachers ego-resilience was found to be partially mediated in the relationship between the social support of fellow teachers and teacher-child interaction. With bootstrapping, the mediating effect of teachers ego-resilience was found to be statistically significant between the social support of colleague teachers and teacher-child interaction. Results showed that children securely attached to both mother and teacher adapted better than children who were insecurely attached to both mother and teacher. Children who were securely attached to mother but insecurely attached to teacher, and children who were insecurely attached to mother but securely attached to teacher adapted better than children who were insecurely attached to both mother and teacher. This study suggests that the quality of child-mother or child-teacher attachment affects children's social adaptation with the passage of time in kindergarten.

  • Teaching is delicate, complicated, and demanding work, and especially beginning teachers set forth their difficulties in preparing and implementing mathematics instruction. It is important to ensure the quality of beginning mathematics teachers' instruction above a consistent level because such affirmation justifies the national policy on teacher education as well as the individual efforts of preservice teachers in South Korea. The current study collected mathematics lessons of the two beginning teachers who graduated from the same teacher training institute and worked at the same high school. The findings reported what features their lessons have with regard to the learning environment, engaging students in learning, deepening student learning, and using representations of the edTPA in order to identify what can or cannot be expected in their mathematics instruction. The instruction of the one teacher was assessed middle or more than middle scores throughout the rubrics, but the other one had lower scores. Based on these findings, this study suggested the implications for teacher education in ways of improving the quality of instruction of beginning mathematics teachers.

  • The quality of teachers is a necessary and sufficient condition for education to accomplish its goals. As informatics education will be taught as a required subject in middle schools starting in 2018, it is more important than anything else to secure high-quality teachers. Accordingly, this study was conducted to compare the informatics teacher education system of Korea with that of Japan in terms of qualifications, licensing and promotion, qualification criteria for teachers, qualifications for informatics teachers and licensing methods. As a result of the comparison three improvements were proposed as follows: The title of the specialized subject must be changed to 'Informatics,' graduate-level education and minor curriculum training courses must be reinforced to enhance the expertise of the teachers, and the qualification system must be changed in such a way as to promote the expertise of the teachers. The improvements proposed in this study will surely contribute to the quality of secondary school informatics teachers.

  • This study explores the features of sociocultural context of experiment classes taught by a science subject teacher. Two experiment classes on electric circuit for fifth graders were observed and video recorded. The data was also collected through student interviews and teacher interviews. Using the cultural historical activity theory, we extracted the six sociocultural factors and analyzed their interactions. This study could identify that four features of the sociocultural context of the cases. First, the rules of science classes were not decided by the teacher, but formed and modified through the negotiation between the teacher and students or between the students. Second, elementary students played a game, i.e. 'Countdown game', during their electricity experiments, which had both positive and negative influences on science learning. Third, the science teacher feels a limit on life guidance because of the position as a subject teacher in an elementary school. Lastly, although the science teacher had enough time to prepare science classes, there was no guarantee of the improvement of teaching quality. Based on the results of this study, educational implications are discussed in terms of teaching science experiments and of the science subject teacher system.

  • Objective: This study explored the relationship between early childhood teachers' teaching efficacy, teacher-child interaction, and preschoolers' school readiness. Methods: The data were drawn from the seventh wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children. The subjects of this study were 1,150 preschoolers and their teachers. Early childhood teachers reported their teaching efficacy, their interaction with preschoolers, and preschoolers' school readiness. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: First, early childhood teachers' teaching efficacy did not have a direct effect on preschoolers' school readiness. Second, early childhood teachers' teaching efficacy had an indirect effect on preschoolers' school readiness through teacher-child interaction. In other words, teachers with a high level of teaching efficacy had high-quality interactions with preschoolers, which led to preschoolers showing a high level of school readiness. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study highlight the importance of teachers' high teaching efficacy and high-quality interactions between teachers and preschoolers to improve preschoolers' school readiness. In addition, this study contributes to a better understanding of the mechanism by which teachers' teaching efficacy influences preschoolers' school readiness.
