  • In this paper, we have studied the FM-extended broadcasting which makes the enhancement of stereo signal-to-noise ration by utilizing the compression technique and quadrature moduation method of standard subcarrier signal in transmitter station, and corresponding demodulation method and expansion technique in receiver system. The proposed system is completely compatible with the conventional FM stereo system. We have confirmed the validity of the proposed method by implementation of transmitter/receiver system including quadrature modulation/demodulation and companding system.

  • The requirements of a successful design for single phase induction motors with a high efficiency have, in recent years, led to the use of non-quadrature stator windings motors in which a high starting torque is a prime requisite. The capacitor motor is one of above machines in which various possible forms of asymmetry can be occur. These forms of asymmetry in the stator phase windings, encountered in machine designs, are 1) an asymmetrical disposition in space of their magnetic axes, 2) a difference in their effective number of turns, 3) a difference in the distribution of their coil groups per pole and 4) amounts of capacitance of an auxiary winding. In order to apply the effective performance prediction of these form to motors, mading of lower quality-domestic magnetic materials, the analysis and the experimental investigations of its sample motors are described in this paper. The utility of such a motor is demonstrated and it is shown that the effects- a good efficiency, good power factor and high starting torque-of the motor mechanism with non-quadrature stator phase windings can development disadvantages by using the lower quality-domestis magnetic materials.

  • DQM(differential quadrature method) is applied to computation of eigenvalues of the equations of motion governing the free in-plane vibration for circular curved beams including mid-surface extension and the effects of rotatory inertia. Fundamental frequencies are calculated for the members with various end conditions and opening angles. The results are compared with numerical solutions by other methods for cases in which they are available. The differential quadrature method gives good accuracy even when only a limited number of grid points is used.

  • In this paper, we propose a complex-valued IIR filter for digital VSB signals based on CMA in order to efficiently mitigate multipath distortions, especially the leakage from the quadrature component. The proposed equalizer overcomes the drawback of the conventional real-valued IIR equalizers that it attempts to equalize Hilbert transform of quadrature component. We demonstrate via simulation that the proposed complex IIR filter successfully mitigates the leakages from the quadrature component, while the conventional real IIR filter requires a longer IIR filter to achieve the same performance. We present cost function analysis for a simple two-tap case showing that the proposed IIR equalizer with CMA for VSB signals has a global minimum at the desired location.

  • Three dimensional solutions for free vibrations analysis of functionally graded fiber reinforced cylindrical panel are presented, using differential quadrature method (DQM). The orthotropic panel is simply supported at the edges and is assumed to have an arbitrary variation of reinforcement volume fraction in the radial direction. Suitable displacement functions that identically satisfy the simply supported boundary condition are used to reduce the equilibrium equations to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients, which can be solved by differential quadrature method to obtain natural frequencies. The main contribution of this work is presenting useful results for continuous grading of fiber reinforcement in the thickness direction of a cylindrical panel and comparison with similar discrete laminate composite ones. Results indicate that significant improvement is found in natural frequency of a functionally graded fiber reinforced composite panel due to the reduction in spatial mismatch of material properties.

  • We study the effect of numerical quadrature in space on semidiscrete and fully discrete piecewise linear finite element methods for parabolic interface problems. Optimal $L^2(L^2)$ and $L^2(H^1)$ error estimates are shown to hold for semidiscrete problem under suitable regularity of the true solution in whole domain. Further, fully discrete scheme based on backward Euler method has also analyzed and optimal $L^2(L^2)$ norm error estimate is established. The error estimates are obtained for fitted finite element discretization based on straight interface triangles.

  • In this paper, the performance of generic orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBCs) introduced by Alamouti [2], Tarokh [3], and Su and Xia [11] is analyzed. We first define one-dimensional component symbol error function (ODSEF) from the exact expression of the pairwise error probability of an OSTBC. Utilizing the ODSEF and the bit error probability (BEP) expression for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) introduced by Cho and Yoon [9], the exact closed-form expressions for the BEP of linear OSTBCs with QAM in quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel are derived. We also derive the exact closed-form of the BEP for some OSTBCs which have at least one message symbol transmitted with unequal power via all transmit antennas.

  • The proposed CMOS Quadrature VCO for WLAN application was designed in TSMC $0.18\;{\mu}m$ RF CMOS technology. The QVCO based on NMOS back-gate as a coupling transistor and switched capacitors array without tail transistors is designed to generate quadrature output signals. The simulated results show that the QVCO core consumed 3.67 mA and 6.6 mW from a 1.8 V supply. The QVCO is tunable between $4.76\;GHz\;{\sim}\;6.35\;GHz$ and has a phase noise lower than -116.8 ㏈c/Hz at 1 MHz offset over the entire tuning range

  • In this work, an efficient transmit antenna selection approach for the quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems is proposed. The conventional Euclidean distance antenna selection (EDAS)-based schemes in QSM have too high computational complexity for practical use. The proposed antenna selection algorithm is based on approximation of the EDAS decision metric employed for QSM. The elimination of imaginary parts in the decision metric enables decoupling of the approximated decision metric, which enormously reduces the complexity. The proposed method is also evaluated via simulations in terms of symbol error rate (SER) performance and compared with the conventional EDAS methods in QSM systems.
