The objective of this research was to determine the Vlasov soil parameters for quadratically varying elasticity modulus $E_s$(z) of the compressible soil continuum and discuss the interaction affect between two close plates. Interaction problem carried on for uniformly distributed load carrying plates. Plate region was simulated by Kirchhoff plate theory based (mixed or displacement type) 2D elements and the foundation continuum was simulated by displacement type 2D elements. At the contact region, plate and foundation elements were geometrically coupled with each other. In this study the necessary formulas for the Vlasov parameters were derived when Young's modulus of the soil continuum was varying as a quadratic function of z-coordinate through the depth of the foundation. In the examples, first the elements and the iterative FE algorithm was verified and later the results of quadratic variation of $E_s$(z) were compared with the previous examples in order to discuss the general behavior. As a final example two plates close to each other resting on elastic foundation were handled to see their interaction influences on the Vlasov foundation parameters. Original examples were solved using both mixed and displacement type plate elements in order to confirm the results.
The objective of this study is to develop an efficient and accurate quadratic finite element model based on Streamline Upwind/Petrov Galerkin (SU/PG) scheme for analyzing and predicting two dimensional flow features in complex natural rivers. For a development of model, quadratic tin, quadrilateral and mixed elements as well as linear tin, quadrilateral and mixed elements were used in the model. Also, this model was developed through reinforcement of Gauss Quadrature which was necessary to integral of governing equation. Several tests for bottom-rising channel and U-type channel were performed for the purpose of validation and verification of the developed model. Such results showed that solutions of second order elements are better accurate and improved than those of linear elements. Results obtained by the developed model and RMA-2 model are compared, and the results for the developed model were better accurate than those of RMA-2 model. In the future if the developed model is applied in natural rivers, it can provide better accurate results than those of existing model.
Delaunay triangulation is a very powerful method of mesh generation for its versatility such as handling complex geometries, element density control, and local/global remeshing capability, The limit of generating simplex elements(3-node elements in 2-D) only is resolved by adding generation module of 6-node quadratic elements. Since proposed adjacency does not change from 3-node element mesh to 6-node mesh, generation module can utilize the original simplex element generator. Therefore, versatility of the Delaunay triangulation is preserved. A simple upsetting problem is employed to show the possibility of the algorithm.
In this paper we consider the quadratic matrix equation which can be defined by $$Q(X)=AX^2+BX+C=0$$, where X is a $n{\times}n$ unknown complex matrix, and A, B and C are $n{\times}n$ given matrices with complex elements. We first introduce a couple of condition numbers of the equation Q(X) and present normwise condition numbers. Finally, we compare the results and some numerical experiments are given.

In this paper, the boom of a floating crane is modeled as a 3-dimensional elastic beam in order to analyze the dynamic response of the crane and its cargo. The boom is divided into more than two elements based on finite element formulation, and deformation of each element is expressed in terms of shape matrix and nodal coordinates. The equations of motion for the elastic boom consist of a mass matrix, a stiffness matrix, and a quadratic velocity vector that contains the gyroscopic and Coriolis forces. The size and complicity of the matrices increase in proportion with the number of elements. Therefore, it is not possible to derive the equations of motion explicitly for different number of elements. To overcome this difficulty, matrices for one 3-dimensional element are expressed with elementary sub-matrices. In particular, the quadratic velocity vector is derived as a product of a shape matrix and a 3-dimensional rotation matrix. By using the derived matrices, the equations of motion for the multi-element boom are automatically constructed. To verify the implementation of the elastic boom based on finite element formulation, we simulated a simple vibration of the elastic boom and compared the average deformation with the analytic solution. Finally, heave motion of the floating crane and surge motion of the cargo are presented as application examples of the elastic boom.
We consider the most generalized quadratic matrix equation, Q(X) = $A_7XA_6XA_5+A_4XA_3+A_2XA_1+A_0=0$, where X is m ${\times}$ n, $A_7$, $A_4$ and $A_2$ are p ${\times}$ m, $A_6$ is n ${\times}$ m, $A_5$, $A_3$ and $A_l$ are n ${\times}$ q and $A_0$ is p ${\times}$ q matrices with complex elements. The convergence of Newton's method for solving some different types of quadratic matrix equations are considered and we show that the elementwise minimal positive solvents can be found by Newton's method with the zero starting matrices. We finally give numerical results.
A subset of n tuples of elements of ${\mathbb{Z}}_9$ is said to be a code over ${\mathbb{Z}}_9$ if it is a ${\mathbb{Z}}_9$-module. In this paper we consider an special family of cyclic codes over ${\mathbb{Z}}_9$, namely quadratic residue codes. We define these codes in term of their idempotent generators and show that these codes also have many good properties which are analogous in many respects to properties of quadratic residue codes over finite fields.
This study looked at the deviation of each textbook, focusing on the detailed learning content related to the quadratic curve properties contained in high school geometry textbooks. Rather than criticizing the diversity of content elements covered in high school geometry textbooks and suggesting alternatives, it focused on analyzing the actual conditions of content element diversity. The curriculum specifies that the practical application of the quadratic curve should be emphasized so that student could recognize the usefulness and value. However, as a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the purpose of the curriculum and the structure of the textbook did not match somewhat, the deviation of content elements for each textbook was quite large. In terms of acknowledging the diversity of teaching and learning, the diversity of each textbook on the methods of the introduction and the natures related to the quadratic curve can be fully recognized. But in our educational reality, which is aiming for the university entrance examination system through national evaluation such as CSAT, the results are too sensitive in society as a whole, so the diversity of expressions in mathematics textbooks is sometimes interpreted as a disadvantage of evaluation. It is time to reconsider the composition of textbooks that recognizes the diversity of content elements in textbook teaching and learning and at the same time reflects the aspect of equality in evaluation.
This paper presents a new two-point approximation method based on the exponential intervening variable. To avoid the lack of definition of the conventional exponential intervening variables due to zero- or negative-valued design variables the shifting level into each exponential intervening variable is introduced. Then a new quadratic approximation, whose Hessian matrix has only diagonal elements of different values, is proposed in terms of these intervening variables. These diagonal elements are computed in a closed form, which correct the typical error in the approximate gradient of the TANA series due to the lack of definition of exponential type intervening variables and their incomplete second-order terms. Also, a correction coefficient is multiplied to the pre-determined quadratic term to match the value of approximate function with that of the original function at the previous point. Finally, the authors developed a sequential approximate optimizer, solved several typical design problems used in the literature and compared these optimization results with those of TANA-3. These comparisons show that the proposed method gives more efficient and reliable results than TANA-3.

For efficient mechanical system optimization, a new two-point approximation method is presented. Unlike the conventional two-point approximation methods such as TPEA, TANA, TANA-1, TANA-2 and TANA-3, this introduces the shifting level into each exponential intervening variable to avoid the lack of definition of the conventional exponential intervening variables due to zero-or negative-valued design variables. Then a new quadratic approximation whose Hessian matrix has only diagonal elements of different values is proposed in terms of these shifted exponential intervening variables. These diagonal elements are determined in a closed form that corrects the typical error in the approximate gradient of the TANA series due to the lack of definition of exponential type intervening variables and their incomplete second-order terms. Also, a correction coefficient is multiplied to the pre-determined quadratic term to match the value of approximate function with that of the previous point. Finally, in order to show the numerical performance of the proposed method, a sequential approximate optimizer is developed and applied to solve six typical design problems. These optimization results are compared with those of TANA-3. These comparisons show that the proposed method gives more efficient and reliable results than TANA-3.
