  • Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency with characteristics such as de-centralization and distributed ledger, and these features are maintained through a mining system called "proof of work". In the mining system, mining difficulty is adjusted to keep the block generation time constant. However, Bitcoin's current method to update mining difficulty does not reflect the future hash power, so the block generation time can not be kept constant and the error occurs between designed time and real time. This increases the inconsistency between block generation and real world and causes problems such as not meeting deadlines of transaction and exposing the vulnerability to coin-hopping attack. Previous studies to keep the block generation time constant still have the error. In this paper, we propose a machine-learning based method to reduce the error. By training with the previous hash power, we predict the future hash power and adjust the mining difficulty. Our experimental result shows that the error rate can be reduced by about 36% compared with the current method.

  • Electronic educational environments in the conditions of quarantine restrictions of COVID-19 have become a common phenomenon for the organization of distance educational activities. Under the conditions of Russian aggression, Ukrainian proof of their use is unique. The purpose of the article is to analyze the role of electronic educational environments in the process of training applicants for higher education in Ukraine in the realities of a large-scale war. General scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, deduction, and induction) and special pedagogical prognostic methods, modeling, and SWOT analysis methods were used. In the results, the general properties of the Internet educational platforms common in Ukraine, the peculiarities of using the Moodle and Prometheus platforms, and an approximate model of the electronic learning environment were discussed. The reasons for the popularity of Moodle among Ukrainian universities are analyzed, but vulnerable elements related to security are emphasized. It was also determined that the high cost of Prometheus software and less functionality made this learning environment less relevant. The conclusions state that the military actions drew the attention of universities in Ukraine to the formation of their own educational platforms. This is especially relevant for technical and military institutions of higher education.

  • The purpose of this research is to find out effectiveness of geometry learning through spatial reasoning activities on mathematical problem solving ability and mathematical attitude. In order to proof this research problem, the controlled experiment was done on two groups of 6th graders in N elementary school; one group went through the geometry learning style through spatial reasoning activities, and the other group went through the general geometry learning style. As a result, the experimental group and the comparing group on mathematical problem solving ability have statistically meaningful difference. However, the experimental group and the comparing group have not statistically meaningful difference on mathematical attitude. But the mathematical attitude in the experimental group has improved clearly after all the process of experiment. With these results we came up with this conclusion. First, the geometry learning through spatial reasoning activities enhances the ability of analyzing, spatial sensibility and logical ability, which is effective in increasing the mathematical problem solving ability. Second, the geometry learning through spatial reasoning activities enhances confidence in problem solving and an interest in mathematics, which has a positive influence on the mathematical attitude.

  • In this study, predictive models based on machine learning for evaluating the extent of hazardous zone of explosive gases are developed. They are able to provide important guidelines for installing the explosion proof apparatus. 1,200 research data sets including 12 combustible gases and their extents of hazardous zone are generated to train predictive models. The extent of hazardous zone is set to an output variable and 12 variables affecting an output are set as input variables. Multiple linear regression, principal component regression, and artificial neural network are employed to train predictive models. Mean absolute percentage errors of multiple linear regression, principal component regression, and artificial neural network are 44.2%, 49.3%, and 5.7% and root mean square errors are 1.389m, 1.602m, and 0.203 m respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the artificial neural network shows the best performance. This model can be easily used to evaluate the extent of hazardous zone for explosive gases.

  • The purpose of this study is to implement Lakatos method in the teaching and learning of geometry for middle school students. In his landmark book , Lakatos suggested the following instructional approach: an initial conjecture was produced, attempts were made to prove the conjecture, the proofs were repeatedly refuted by counterexamples, and finally more improved conjectures and refined proofs were suggested. In the study, students were selected from the high achieving students who participated in the special mathematics and science program offered by the city council of Seoul. The students were given a contradictory geometric proposition, and expected to find the cause of the fallacy. The students successfully identified the fallacy following the Lakatos method. In this process they also set up a primitive conjecture and this conjecture was justified by the proof and refutation method. Some implications were drawn from the result of the study.

  • This study was motivated by recognizing the weakness of teaching and learning about the concepts of statements in high school mathematics curriculum. To report the reality of students' understanding about statements, this study investigated the 33 first-year undergraduate students' understanding about the concepts of statements by giving them 22 statement problems. The problems were selected based on the conceptual framework including five types of statement concepts which are considered as the key ideas for understanding mathematical reasoning and proof in college level mathematics. The analysis of the participants' responses to the statement problems found that their understanding about the concepts of prepositions are very limited and extremely based on the instrumental understanding applying an appropriate remembered rule to the solution of a preposition problem without knowing why the rule works. The results from this study will give the information for effective teaching and learning of statements in college level mathematics, and give the direction for the future reforming the unite of statements in high school mathematics curriculum as well.

  • Ancient Greek mathematician Euclid left three books about mathematics. It's 'The elements', 'The data', 'On divisions of figure'. This study is based on the analysis of Euclid's 'On divisions of figure'. 'On divisions of figure' is a book about the construction of the shape. Because, there are thirty six proposition in 'On divisions of figure', among them 30 proposition are for the construction. In this study, based on the 'On divisions of figure' we explore the direction for construction education. The results were as follows. First, the proposition of 'On divisions of figure' shall include the following information. It is a 'proposition presented', 'heuristic approach to the construction process', 'specifically drawn presenting', 'proof process'. Therefore, the content of textbooks needs a qualitative improvement in this way. Second, a conceptual basis of 'On divisions of figure' is 'The elements'. 'The elements' includes the construction propositions 25%. However, the geometric constructions contents in middle school area is only 3%. Therefore, it is necessary to expand the learning of construction in the our country mathematics curriculum.

  • Ciphertext policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE) is a useful cryptographic technology for guaranteeing data confidentiality but also fine-grained access control. Typically, CP-ABE can be divided into two classes: small universe with polynomial attribute space and large universe with unbounded attribute space. Since the learning with errors over rings (R-LWE) assumption has characteristics of simple algebraic structure and simple calculations, based on R-LWE, we propose a small universe CP-ABE scheme to improve the efficiency of the scheme proposed by Zhang et al. (AsiaCCS 2012). On this basis, to achieve unbounded attribute space and improve the expression of attribute, we propose a large universe CP-ABE scheme with the help of a full-rank differences function. In this scheme, all polynomials in the R-LWE can be used as values of an attribute, and these values do not need to be enumerated at the setup phase. Different trapdoors are used to generate secret keys in the key generation and the security proof. Both proposed schemes are selectively secure in the standard model under R-LWE. Comparison with other schemes demonstrates that our schemes are simpler and more efficient. R-LWE can obtain greater efficiency, and unbounded attribute space means more flexibility, so our research is suitable in practices.

  • In this paper, we deal with the isoprimetric problem of polygons from the point of view of learning materials for elementary gifted students. The isoperimetric problem of the polygon of odd degree can be solved by E-transformation(see Figure III-1) and M-transformation(see Figure III-3). But in the case of even degree's polygon, it is quite difficult to solve the problem because of the connected components of diagonals (here we consider the diagonals forming triangle with two adjacent sides of polygon). The primary purpose of this paper is to give an idea to solve the isoperimetric problem of polygons of even degree using the properties of ellipse. This idea is derived from the programs of the Institute of Science Education for Gifted Students in the Jeju National University.
