  • This research aims to examine the relationships between empathy and attitudes toward curricula integration of engineering students. To achieve this goal, first, differences in empathy and attitudes toward curricula integration among engineering students were examined. Second, the effects of attitudes toward curricula integration, as perceived by engineering undergraduate students, on empathy were explored. A total of three hundred and two engineering undergraduate students from three universities in Korea responded to survey based on a two-variables scale. The findings were that, firstly, a positive correlation among sub-factors of empathy and attitudes toward curricula integration was identified. Secondly, attitudes toward curricula integration could explain about 12% of empathy. The practical implications of these findings are discussed herein, with particular attention on education for promotion of empathy for engineering students.

  • Recently, in order to increase the effectiveness of engineering education, it is a trend to get out of teacher-centered, traditional pedagogical strategy which emphasizes knowledge delivery and to utilize diverse pedagogical strategies such as project-based learning, problem-based learning, and so on. Especially utilization of project-based learning(PBL) that is very effective to improve practical ability by doing projects which students can apply their knowledge learned in class has been increasing. By the way, although students work on one or more projects in your course, only the fact shouldn't say that you properly utilizes PBL. That is, many teachers make students perform projects in their courses, but only a few teachers properly utilize PBL. This paper presents PBL procedures, evaluation criteria on project subjects, an evaluation method of team project, an evaluation table of PBL accomplishment, etc. based on many years experience in PBL as a guideline for PBL in engineering education. Also, this paper proposes some complements for better PBL by analysing strength and weakness of PBL.

  • This paper proposes MIMO two-way cooperative relay scheme to optimize the end to end capacity in wireless multi-hop mesh network. The basic idea is to perform data transmission via multi-hop relay nodes, in equidistant topology, this method is quite efficient. However, on one hand this topology is very rare in practical situation, on the other hand, in real practical situation where the topology is most likely non equidistant, the end to end capacity significantly degrades due to bottleneck link caused by uneven SNR. Moreover, the end to end capacity degrades at high SNR due to overreach interference from far nodes existing in multi-hop relay networks. In this paper, MIMO two-way cooperative relay in the region of non equidistant nodes is found efficient to improve the end to end capacity. The proposed scheme is validated using numerical simulation.

  • This paper is about the numerical analysis on optimized internal flow of LTP furnace and uniformity of temperature. The LTP Furnace is the device that generates heat by electricity. And performs an annealing function for annealing the silicon wafer in the pre-semiconductor manufacturing process. Especially, the maximum temperature inside the chamber is maintained at a high temperature of about $400^{\circ}C$ to strengthen the wafer. When the process is completed at high temperature, the operation is repeated to reduce the temperature through the heat exchanger and carry it out. From this analysis, the ultimate goal is to derive the optimum design of the insulation volume supply/exhaust structure of the chamber through the flow analysis of the LTPS furnace. And to find cases for curriculum development.

  • The current tendency on development and change of equipment system in the factory are overlapped with the specific field of the existing systems such as PLC, DCS and SCADA, and the limited portion of the systems in the specific field stands in their own field. Specially, systematic integration, inspection control system and manufacturing management system, management information system are getting closely linked and therefore we increasingly need the open system. Meeting the needs, manufacturing automated equipments in the factory overcoming the shortcomings of unlinked unit equipment recently are getting changed to the phase closely linking with other systems. The training systems for the university, however, have not kept up with the needs from the industry, in spite that fused complex function and performance are asked in the field. To solve the problems, we suggest that the training courses and the equipment designed for the undergraduate education.

  • With the development of e-learning teaching methods, the demand for blended learning, which combines face-to-face education and e-learning, is increasing, and it shows a learning effect that can replace the existing face-to-face class. Engineering subjects have various learning activities such as practice, so it is not easy to operate them with traditional blended learning. Therefore, a different teaching and learning design is required according to the learning activities required for the subject. In this paper, examples of teaching method design and operation for blended learning in engineering subjects were introduced, and their effects investigated and analyzed. Learning activities were subdivided into theoretical classes, practical classes, quizzes and Q&A, assignments and solutions, and teaching and learning methods such as online videos, LMS utilization, and face-to-face classes were applied according to learning activities. According to the results of the student satisfaction survey, blended learning showed higher satisfaction than pure online and face-to-face classes in engineering subjects, and showed differentiated satisfaction for each learning activity.

  • The goal of today's environmental education is to enhance the understanding of the serious of environmental problems and the interactions among environment. With this perspectives people need to be aware that environmental education is no longer a liberal arts in university education, but play a vital role within the socio-cultural context. This study was performed to assess the changes in the university student's attitudes and consciousness in real life after the education of a point at issues of environmental problems. For this study 11 questionnaires which were composed of large scale environmental problems(water and air pollution), and small scale environmental problems(food additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter) were performed with self-administered by university students(n=781) who made a application for liberal arts related to environmental subjects. According to the analysis the most student's consciousness of a point at issue of environmental problems(water pollution, air pollution, additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter), and practical attitudes(i.e., practical attendant at congregation and internet voting) were change statistically significant(p<0.01) after the education of a point at issue of environmental problems rather than before. Specially, the score for the item of the large scale problem of environmental issues(water pollution, air pollution) were decreased significantly(p<0.01), but the score for the small scale problems, such as food additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter were increased significantly(p<0.01) after the education of a point at issue of environmental problems(p<0.01). And among the students that participated, 97.7% responded that such a point at issues of environmental problem is needed at the university. With this educational improvements supports the states that the education of a point at issue of environmental problems were more essential, practical and needed to students at university rather than that of an existing instruction. Thus, further studies are required to develop the education of environmental issues at universities like STSE programme.

  • Residence College(RC) is a system that provides an integrated space and education program for living and education, which is different from the dormitory that has been used only in the existing simple residential space. Recently, universities have adopted RC to respond to changes in higher education environment and to provide differentiated education and to cultivate large talent in the 4th industry. However, RC and RC education programs in Korea are somewhat distant from the comprehensive and integrated programs found in foreign cases, and the development of RC education programs is insufficient and practical research is also lacking. In order to cope with the rapid changes in the educational environment, this study will introduce the RC education programs in Korea by introducing the RC. The purpose of this study is to compare the RC education programs of Cambridge University and Wellesley College in the USA and to suggest RC education program and effective management plan reflecting the new paradigm which is being discussed recently in our university education.
