There is a growing need for optical communication systems that convert large volumes of data to optical signals and that accommodate and transmit the signals across long distances. Digital optical communication consists of a master unit (MU) and a slave unit (SU). The MU transmits data to SU using digital optical signals. However, digital optical units that are commercially available or are under development transmit data using two's complement representation. At low input levels, a large number of SSOs (simultaneous switching outputs) are required because of the high rate of bit switching in two's complement, which thereby increases the power noise. This problem reduces the overall system capability because a DSP (digital signal processor) chip (FPGA, CPLD, etc.) cannot be used efficiently and power noise increases. This paper proposes a change from two's complement to a more efficient method that produces less SSO noise and can be applied to existing digital optical units.
It is widely known that the ultra high frequency (UHF) method that detects the electromagnetic wave of the PD pulses in the gas insulated space is one of the most competitive methods for its high sensitivity. From the above point of view, this paper describes the characteristics of GIS PD signals measured with ultra wide band (UWB) GIS PD defecting system in which PD signals are defected into the dual UHF band. Thc UWB PD detection system consists of the UWB UHF coupler, the UWB low noise amplifier (LNA) and the oscilloscope. The dual bands for PD signals are 0.5-2GHz(full band) and 1-2GHz(high band). As results, it was found that the partial discharges of each defect have their own characteristic pattern and the ratio of High hand to Full band increases with gas pressure.

This paper presents a new orthogonal signals generator (OSG) with DC Offset rejection for implementing a phase locked loop (PLL) in single-phase grid-connected power systems. An adaptive filter (AF) based on the least mean square (LMS) algorithm is used to constitute the OSG in this study. The DC offset in the measured grid voltage signal can be significantly rejected in the developed OSG technique. This generates two pure orthogonal signals that are free from the DC offset. As a result, the DC offset rejection performance of the presented single-phase phase locked loop (SPLL) can be enhanced. A mathematical model of the developed OSG and the principle of the adaptive filter based SPLL (AF-SPLL) are presented in detail. Finally, simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed AF-SPLL.
The Sequence Of Event (SOE) system used in nuclear power plants is a part of the Plant Data Acquisition System (PDAS). The SOE system of the existing nuclear power plant share the computer H/W and S/W, and required more complicated structure to provide the events or trip signals. Moreover, there are high potential of collision between synchronization signals and data transmitted to the Plant Computer System(PCS) when the synchronization signals are sent from PCS to the three SOE processors. When this collision happens the SOE system will break down, thus it is not possible to analyze the trend of events or trips. This paper issued the limitation items of the existing SOE system and proposed the revised SOE system.
To reduce the effect of fault on underground power cable, we need exact and fast fault location detection technique. In this thesis, we describe on filter design technique that can be applied to on-line fault defection technique. To design fitter for fault location defection on Power cable, we should analysis fault signal. So we designed test bed for fault generation and measured fault signals for analysis. Through the analysis of signals, we found that ANC filter can be applied to separate fault signals and we designed a ANC filter. We tested on the designed filter through computer simulation, and we describe its results in this paper.
This paper proposes an algorithm for signal validation using unsupervised methods in emergency situations at nuclear power plants (NPPs) when signals are rapidly changing. The algorithm aims to determine the stuck failures of signals in real time based on a variational auto-encoder (VAE), which employs unsupervised learning, and long short-term memory (LSTM). The application of unsupervised learning enables the algorithm to detect a wide range of stuck failures, even those that are not trained. First, this paper discusses the potential failure modes of signals in NPPs and reviews previous studies conducted on signal validation. Then, an algorithm for detecting signal failures is proposed by applying LSTM and VAE. To overcome the typical problems of unsupervised learning processes, such as trainability and performance issues, several optimizations are carried out to select the inputs, determine the hyper-parameters of the network, and establish the thresholds to identify signal failures. Finally, the proposed algorithm is validated and demonstrated using a compact nuclear simulator.
Power line noise in electrocardiogram signals makes it difficult to diagnose cardiovascular disease. ECG signals without power line noise are needed to increase the accuracy of diagnosis. In this paper, it is proposed DNN(Deep Neural Network) model to remove the power line noise in ECG. The proposed model is learned with noisy ECG, and clean ECG. Performance of the proposed model were performed in various environments(varying amplitude, frequency change, real-time amplitude change). The evaluation used signal-to-noise ratio and root mean square error (RMSE). The difference in evaluation metrics between the noisy ECG signals and the de-noising ECG signals can demonstrate effectiveness as the de-noising model. The proposed DNN model learning result was a decrease in RMSE 0.0224dB and a increase in signal-to-noise ratio 1.048dB. The results performed in various environments showed a decrease in RMSE 1.7672dB and a increase in signal-to-noise ratio 15.1879dB in amplitude changes, a decrease in RMSE 0.0823dB and a increase in signal-to-noise ratio 4.9287dB in frequency changes. Finally, in real-time amplitude changes, RMSE was decreased 0.3886dB and signal-to-noise ratio was increased 11.4536dB. Thus, it was shown that the proposed DNN model can de-noise power line noise in ECG.
The grinding process is very complex and relates many parameters to control the process. As this reason, a theoretical analysis and a quantitative estimation of the grinding process has not been well established. In this study, the in-process monitoring system was suggested by applying the neural network for monitoring and shooting the malfunction of cylindrical plunge grinding process. This system used the power signals from the electric power meter. This neural network was composed of processing elements [4-(5-5)-3] with 4 identified power parameters. Because sensitivity is blunted some minute vibration components, the simulation result of this system has appeared about 10% erroneous recognition in the uncertain pattern and the average success rate of the trouble recognition was about 90%. Consequently, the developed system, which applied to the power signals, can be recognize enough to monitor the grinding process as in-process.
An advanced active power filter for the compensation of instantaneous harmonic current components in nonlinear current load is presented in this paper. A novel signal processing technique using an adaptive neural network algorithm is applied for the detection of harmonic components generated by three-phase nonlinear current loads and this method can efficiently determine the instantaneous harmonic components in real time. The control strategy of the switching signals to compensate current harmonics of the three-phase inverter is also discussed and its switching signals are generated with the space voltage vector modulation scheme. The validity of this active filtering processing system to compensate current harmonics is substantiated on the basis of simulation results.
