Performance Analysis of Co- and Cross-tier Device-to-Device Communication Underlaying Macro-small Cell Wireless Networks

  • Device-to-Device (D2D) communication underlaying macro-small cell networks, as one of the promising technologies in the era of 5G, is able to improve spectral efficiency and increase system capacity. In this paper, we model the cross- and co-tier D2D communications in two-tier macro-small cell networks. To avoid the complicated interference for cross-tier D2D, we propose a mode selection scheme with a dedicated resource sharing strategy. For co-tier D2D, we formulate a joint optimization problem of power control and resource reuse with the aim of maximizing the overall outage capacity. To solve this non-convex optimization problem, we devise a heuristic algorithm to obtain a suboptimal solution and reduce the computational complexity. System-level simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which can provide enhanced system performance and guarantee the quality-of-service (QoS) of all devices in two-tier macro-small cell networks. In addition, our study reveals the high potential of introducing cross- and co-tier D2D in small cell networks: i) cross-tier D2D obtains better performance at low and medium small cell densities than co-tier D2D, and ii) co-tier D2D achieves a steady performance improvement with the increase of small cell density.

Study of Peak Load Demand Estimation Methodology by Pearson Correlation Analysis with Macro-economic Indices and Power Generation Considering Power Supply Interruption

  • Since the late 2000s, there has been growing preparation in South Korea for a sudden reunification of South and North Korea. Particularly in the power industry field, thorough preparations for the construction of a power infrastructure after reunification are necessary. The first step is to estimate the peak load demand. In this paper, we suggest a new peak demand estimation methodology by integrating existing correlation analysis methods between economic indicators and power generation quantities with a power supply interruption model in consideration of power consumption patterns. Through this, the potential peak demand and actual peak demand of the Nation, which experiences power supply interruption can be estimated. For case studies on North Korea after reunification, the potential peak demand in 2015 was estimated at 5,189 MW, while the actual peak demand within the same year was recorded as 2,461 MW. The estimated potential peak demand can be utilized as an important factor when planning the construction of power system facilities in preparation for reunification.

전류모드 논리 회로 기반의 고속 디지털 회로 디자인 최적화 (Design Optimization of CML-Based High-Speed Digital Circuits)

  • 본 논문에서는 전류 모드 논리 회로들로 구현되는 고속 디지털 회로의 설계를 가능하게 하는 수식 기반의 자동화 설계 틀을 제시하고자 한다. 제안된 매크로 모델은 제약 기반의 최적화를 가능하게 하는 geometric programming에 호환 가능하며 이를 통해 시스템 레벨에서의 전력 소모 최적화를 가능하게 한다. 제안된 수식 기반의 자동화 설계 틀은 전류 모드 논리 회로고속 디지털 회로의 대표적인 종류 중 하나인 시리얼 링크 전송회로에 적용 되었다. 이를 통해, 사용자 정의 설계 사양에 따라 최적화를 수행하게 된다. 제안된 수식 기반의 자동화 설계 틀은 CMOS 45nm 와 90nm 각각 적용 되어 시리얼 링크 설계의 전력 소모 최적화를 수행하였으며, 이를 통해 각각의 공정 노드에 존재하는 최적의 전력 효율을 가지는 시리얼 링크의 데이터 스피드를 얻어 낼 수 있다.

전력계통의 조류해석에서 STATCOM과 UPFC의 모선전압 제어효과에 대한 비교연구 (A Comparative Study on the Bus Voltage Control Effect of STATCOM and UPFC in Power Flow Analysis of Power Systems)

  • 본 논문은 전력계통의 조류해석시에 STATCOM과 UPEC의 모선전압 제어효과를 비교연구하였다. 시뮬레이션은 전력계통의 종합해석용 소프트웨어인 PSS/E를 사용하였으며, PSS/E에서 아직 제공하지 않는 UPFC의 모선 전압에 대한 효과를 해석하기 위해, 선로에서의 유효·무효전력과 모선의 전압이 적절히 제어되고 있는 상황에서 UPFC룰 동기조상기와 부하로 등가하여 나타내었다. 이러한 UPEC의 병렬 인버터가 설치된 모선의 전압제어뿐만 아니라 직렬 인버터를 통하여 선로의 유효·무효전력을 효과적으로 제어함으로써 전력계통의 조류해석시에 STATCOM 보다 넓은 범위의 모선전압을 효과적으로 제어할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Cramped resonant DC link inverter is analyzed by widely available software such as SPICE. In this paper, the model of ACRDCL which is based on converter switch function rather than actual circuit configuration is used. Power circuit is modeled by functional transfer function and the controller is based on the macro-model. Computer memory and runtime are based reduced compared to micro-model. Overall performance including control strategy and harmonic characteristics in the steady state can be analyzed easily.

Factors Determine Exchange Rate Volatility of Somalia

  • The exchange rate is a very important macro variable that has influence on the whole economy and has, therefore, been the topic of many discussions amongst policymakers, academics and other economic agents. The issue of whether to have a fixed, pegged or floating exchange rate regime was highly debated during the 1970s. The purpose of this paper is to investigate what factors determine the exchange rate in Somalia. Quantitative research methodology has been employed to develop regression model using time series data for the period of 12 years. The regression model has been developed based on Quantity theory of money, purchasing power parity and uncovered interest rate parity theory. Somalia is on the countries where the highest exchange rate volatility exists; for example in 2012, the rate jumped 29% percent and two weak later dropped 21%, when Turkish humanitarian aid agencies injected the market a lot of U.S dollar. Based on my study using regression model for time series data of 12 years, the four factors are mainly attributable for the exchange rate volatility of Somalia; these factors include the balance of payment, inflation rate, money supply (mostly come from remittance and NGOs) and Bank profits.

모델기반 해석을 이용한 전기 이륜차의 동력 특성 (Power characteristics of motorcycle using model based simulation)

  • 본 논문에서는 ASM을 이용하여 전기 이륜차 장치에 대한 모델기반 설계 기법을 제시하였다. 실제, 전기 이륜차의 시제품 제작 이전에 전기 이륜차의 최적화와 동력을 예측하기 위해서는 신뢰성을 갖는 해석이 필요하다. 과거의 전기 이륜차 연구는 미시적 관점보다는 거시적 관점에서 실시되었다. 그러나, 본 연구에서는 전기 이륜차 핵심 부품에 대한 상세 해석을 실시하였다. 본 논문에서는 이론과 실험해석의 에러 비율이 2.3%에 달하는 양호한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 이 같은 상세 해석을 통하여, 전기 이륜차의 해석 정확도를 향상시키고 설계인자 해석이 가능하게 되었다. 또한, 본 연구에서는 전기 이륜차가 직면하고 있는 Fail safety에 대한 효과적 방법을 제시하였다.

Macromodel for Short Circuit Power and Propagation Delay Estimation of CMOS Circuits

  • This paper presents a simple method to estimate short-circuit power dissipation and propagation delay for static CMOS logic circuits. Short-circuit current expression is derived by accurately interpolating peak points of actual current curves which is influenced by the gate-to-drain coupling capacitance. The macro model and its expressions estimating the delay of CMOS circuits, which is based on the current modeling expression, are also proposed after investigating the voltage waveforms at transistor output modes. It is shown through simulations that the proposed technique yields better accuracy than previous methods when signal transition time and/or load capacitance decreases, which is a characteristic of the present technological evolution.

  • This paper presents an comparative study on the effect of STATCOM and UPFC to the power system static analysis. The effect of STATCOM can be analyzed with PSS/E program which is generally used in power system analysis, while UPFC model for static analysis is not provided yet. Thus, UPFC is equivalently represented as a synchronous condenser and load, while the active and reactive power of the specific transmission line and the voltage of the bus is controlled appropriately. This procedure is implemented by IPLAN which is an external macro program of PSS/E. The simulation results show that UPFC is more effective to control the bus voltage than STATCOM, because UPFC can control not only the bus voltage where the parallel inverter is installed but also the active and reactive power flow in the transmission line where the series inverter is installed.

  • The reverse link of a spectrally overlaid macrocell/microcell cellular CDMA system supporting multimedia traffic is characterized in terms of the required signal power, interference, and capacity. Several narrowband subsystems are overlaid with a wideband subsystem in macrocells, while a single wideband subsystem is operated in a microcell with the same spectrum as the macrocell wideband subsystem. Using a typical propagation model the reverse link signal power and interference are characterized as the relative user signal power and the cross-tier interference factors between the macrocell and the microcell. The reverse link capacity of the overlay system is then analyzed. Analytical results show that the dominant parameters affecting the system performance are the spectral overlay ratio and the distance between the microcell and macrocell base stations. In particular, when the distance equals a half of macrocell radius, optimum performance can be achieved by minimizing the cross-tier interference factors. These results can be applied to CDMA multimedia network planning in heavily populated traffic areas.
