A Study on the Marketing-oriented Management of Pusan Port (부산항의 마케팅 지향 항만경영에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with the problem of port administration and management of the port of Pusan. As the port of Pusan has been administrated by central government, several problems on port administration and management have occurred. These include the time-lagged port development, the inconsistent port planning with city planning, the insufficient long-term port development planning the various operation authorities the low productivity of port and the lack of port sales activities etc. In addition to solving the above mentioned problems to diversify the function of port the following measures are to be taken for the port of Pusan ; the transfer from port administration system to port management system, the introduction of Port Authority with a board, and the conversion of the management system from production-oriented to marketing-oriented.

The Relative Effects of Three Dimensions of Port Logistics Service Quality on Customer Satisfaction (항만물류 서비스품질 차원이 고객만족도에 미치는 영향 - 인천항 컨테이너 터미널을 중심으로 -)

  • The main purpose of this study is to develop new measurement device of the quality of terminal service, applying the existing research output of service marketing to the specific industrial aspect of container terminal. Especially we tried to help marketing managers present the points of effective marketing strategy with each dimension of service quality. To achieve this aim, we defined the service quality demensions of container port as the following three ones; the internal, the external, and the interactive qualities. The applied measuring instruments could be divided into three dimensions by carrying out factor analysis. Additionally, by analyzing the relative effects of the three dimensions of service quality on customer satisfaction, we found that the relative importance are as follows; interaction quality>internal quality> external quality. We confirmed that the three dimensions of service quality could affect customer loyalty and information, through customer satisfaction.

  • The main purpose of this study is to design the port marketing strategies for strengthening the competitive power of container terminal. So far many attempts have been made to analyze the international competitiveness of the terminal. Six factors hypothesized by this study come from previous research analyses about customers preference for port selection. Those are Cost Centrality and Intermediacy Free trade port Inland transportation connections Political and Economic institution and Port facilities. this study analyzes the most important factors about hob port and transhipment port separately through questionnaire analysis about users(shipper shipping company and freight forwarder) influencing on port selection.   • Lately, one of the most representative phases on business world is the diffusion of internet business. This change has been making new port business model called 'e-Port' in maritime transport. The focus of this article is to suggest some strategies on the implementation of e-Port in Korea. To research and analyze the e-Port realities, we first reviewed the previous study on Internet Marketing and e-Business. Six strategies that are critical on e-Port model were classified: (1) contents, (2) community, (3) commerce, (4) connection, (5) communication, (6) customization. Secondly, we chose and evaluated website of eight ports: Hongkong, Singapore, Antwerp, Hamburg, as successful e-port models. And then, we investigated actual conditions of e-Port in Pusan, Inchon, K wangwang, and Gusan. And then we try to find effective plan on the operation of e-Port.

  • With an increases in income levels and the establishment of a five-day workweek, the number of passengers using international passenger terminals around the world continues to grow every year. However, previous researches on port sector have focused on cargo, and neglected the study on the passenger attraction strategy of the international passenger terminal. Maximizing passenger attraction strategy of the international passenger terminal requires establishing and operating the port marketing strategy, which reflects port characteristics and the tourism marketing strategy, which reflects the hinterland characteristics in an integrated approach. Therefore, the study presents a marketing mix strategy for Daesan International Passenger Terminal based on existing literatures, and a tourism marketing strategy for Seosan city based on the "6A" factor. Recommendations for the Daesan Port include the grand image improvement strategy of Seosan city, utilization of marine tourism resources and development of various tourism products linked to the neighboring areas.

  • The interest of Cruise has been increased because of economic development and income growth in the world during last several decades. In Asian area the Cruise service also has been enlarged, especially in East Asia countries such as Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hongkong, Taiwan and China. This paper reviewed previous researches and clarify its concept and characteristics of Cruise Industry. And This paper aims to study the correct concepts and characteristics of Cruise marketing and investigate the current status and trend of Cruise Industry of the world and Korea. And it has groped and suggested various countermeasures, strategies and tactics in the 4Ps perspectives, considering the problems and conditions of Cruise service of Incheon Port.

The Challenge of the Third Generation Port and Port Competition (제 3 세대 항만의 도래와 항만경쟁)

  • Technological and organisational changes in transport system have introduced new dimension into port system development and inter-port competition. The quality of service now required by the customer is costly and not easily provided by small shipping companies and small ports. It has been suggested that in the future container shipping may be concentrated by space-sharing arrangements or actual mergers into the hands of a few mega-operators with the investment potential to provide total logistics networks. In order to compete effectively, high load factors will be essential and port concentration inevitable. A fa-voured few ports will become the load centres and other ports will assume a secondary feeder role. In this study, three questions are raised and attempts are made to answer them : (a) what is the new role of ports today ; (b) why should ports be engaged in this new role ; and (c) how can ports play this new role. In short, a modern port should be a service centre and a logistic platform for international trade and transport-a third generation port. Ports, in particular, have to make every effort to be competitive in the cost and quality of services and to make the port a transport and distribution service centre. For most ports, this is not an option but a must ; an essential requirement for survival in this win or lose situation. The best way to win is to maintain a close contact with port users, listen to them, discuss with them, help them and satisfy them. That is port marketing. Starting from the findings of port marketing, it is es-sential to work out appropriate development plans and marketing targets and to improve port competitive-ness. As an alternative method, a port competitiveness model is suggested, which may help port managers to make appropriate improvements.

A Study on Busan Port's Marketing Target for Attracting Transshipment Cargo from Japan (일본 환적화물 유치를 위한 부산항 마케팅 타겟 선정 연구 - 일본 서안 항만을 중심으로 -)

  • The growth of T/S cargoes maintained a highly upward trend by an increase of throughputs of North Chinese ports in the early 2000s. Recently, however, it has fallen dramatically due to large developmental projects of infrastructures for North Chinese ports. Despite this situation, an increase rate of T/S cargoes between Korean and Japanese ports is showing relatively high by 8 to 9 percent. Therefore this study pursues to choose objectives for marketing target of a total of 23 ports in the west of Japan by analyzing factors like a trade characteristics with Busan ports, an increase rate, a market share and a fluctuation rate of throughputs. The result of this study shows that Moji, Niigata, Naha, Shimonoseki and Kanazawa port are selected as the objectives for core marketing and Hakata, Akita, Tokuyama, Imari, Ishikari and Sakata port are chosen as ports for continuous marketing.

The Effects of Anticipated Benefits from Introducing e-business Activities by Traditional Shipping and Port Logistics Firms on Their Performance in Marketing Mix and Global Competitiveness (항만물류기업의 온라인 비즈니스화를 통한 마케팅 경쟁력과 글로벌 경쟁력 강화 방안)

  • This study examines the relationships between typical anticipated benefit factors of introducing online business activities by traditional brick-and-mortar shipping and port logistics companies and their performance in marketing mix and global competitiveness. Three major benefit factors were derived including improved trust, information acquiring and limitation of offline business activities. The three empirically derived critical synergy factors were then used to examine how they improve the firms performance in marketing mix and global competitiveness. The results of structural equation modeling method show that the anticipated benefit factors significantly influence the firms' performance in marketing mix. Subsequently, marketing mix significantly influence the firms' global competitiveness. The results provide useful guidelines for the shipping and port logistics firms to develop appropriate marketing mix strategies to improve their global competitiveness.

  • Port development is remarkable increased due to the progress of industrialization in ASEAN area. Especially, Vietnam has increased the international physical distribution in this area rapidly. The main issues facing decision makers at container terminals in Vietnam are how to expand the existing container terminals and construct new container terminals. In this paper, we performed the basic design based on simulation analysis in order to support the expansion of Quy Nhon port in Vietnam as a case study. The preliminary capacity analysis was conducted on the one berth at the port to analyze the scale of C/C and yard area. Alternative scenarios were created based on the preliminary capacity analysis and the detailed simulation analysis was conducted fur the scenarios. And in order to establish the marketing strategy, we classified the marketing elements by industrial environment and performed SWAT analysis of the port.
