  • Devices compliant to the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) Audio Video (A/V) specifications can easily establish multimedia home networks through zero or auto configuration. Despite the existing UPnP certification process many issues concerning interoperability still arise. Capabilities may not be fully implemented or there may be codec issues. Therefore, a means to check and verity interoperability prior to product purchasing or usage is necessary. In this paper, an implementation of a portable control point is proposed to store and manage UPnP device capability information. The portable control point can be used to find UPnP A/V compliant devices that are most compatible.

  • Middleware enables different networking devices and protocols to inter-operate in ubiquitous home network environments. The UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) middleware, which runs on a PC and is based on the IPv4 protocol, has attracted much interest in the field of home network research since it has versatility The UPnP, however, cannot be easily accessed via the public Internet since the UPnP devices that provide services and the Control Points that control the devices are configured with non-routable local private or Auto IP networks. The critical question is how to access UPnP network via the public Internet. The purpose of this paper is to deal with the non-routability problem in local private and Auto IP networks by improving the conventional Control Point used in UPnP middleware-based home networks. For this purpose, this paper proposes an improved Control Point for accessing and controlling the home network from remote sites via the public Internet, by adding a web server to the conventional Control Point. The improved Control Point is implemented in an embedded GNU/Linux system running on an ARM9 platform. Also this paper implements the security of the home network system based on the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), adding VPN (Virtual Private Network) router that uses the IPsec to the home network system which is consisted of the ARM9 and the Embedded Linux.

  • In this paper, a modular platform for wearable devices is proposed which can be easily assembled by exchanging functions according to various field and environment conditions. The proposed modular platform consists of a 32-bit RISC CPU, a 32-bit symmetric multi-core processor, and a 16-bit DSP. It also includes a plug & play features which can quickly respond to various environments. The sensing and communication modules are connected in the form of a chain. This work is implemented in a standard 130 nm CMOS technology and the proposed modular wearable platforms are verified with temperature and humidity sensors.

  • In this paper, the development of Power Line Communication(PLC) device for white goods is presented. The commercial PLC chip-set is used for the modem device of white goods. As a PLC device for white goods, an ARM720 u-controller and a windows CE 3.0 are adopted. UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) that is applied for home network middle ware in implemented system. In addition, application programming and emulator for home appliance are implemented using UPnP standard ver 1.0.

  • In this article, it has been shown that penises devices such as illumination facilities, heating/cooling systems and security equipment can be controlled even outside premises using UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) applicable to the Internet or cellular phone services. To load UPnP protocol into each device, current manufacturers will be required to port flexible OS (Operating System), that is, Windows or Linux to these premises devices. Furthermore, prospective users want to experience a variety of specific functions based on more standardized and stable network. This study aims to provide application by implementing these functions on the Linux system.

  • There has been several meaning full efforts to save costs on system development and expand the life-time of a system in changeful IT circumstance. It was a module-based architecture that empower productivity at structured programming era. But it couldn't grow nor evolve, but could raise only calling frequency of module. But OOP or OO-method overcome limit of structured programing by class inheritance and/or overloading and/or over-riding. A component centric architecture, what is mixture of distributed systems, like CORBA or DCOM with OOP, can support not only high reusability or expansion of life-time but also Plug-&-Play between them. To assemble these component to build a new system in easy way, the well-formed specification of a component is highly required. At this study, the enhanced referential component architecture and its UML specification will be suggested.

  • Most of the internet security protocols rely on classical algorithms based on the mathematical complexity of the integer factorization problem, which becomes vulnerable to a quantum computer. Recent progresses of quantum computing technologies have highlighted the need for applying quantum key distribution (QKD) on existing network protocols. We report the development and integration of a plug & play QKD device with a commercial IPSec device by replacing the session keys used in IPSec protocol with the quantum ones. We expect that this work paves the way for enhancing security of the star-type networks by implementing QKD with the end-to-end IP communication.

  • Recently, developing medical devices have a tendency becoming the module for satisfying user's mutual complex needs. Because the most effective method for the observation of patients condition a diagnosis and a treatment is collecting data from various devices and controling operation following it. Module tendency is more popular due to manage easily totally many individual systems. This study implemented communication protocol to control by one control system connecting modular medical devices. Implemented system consist of one master module controlling all module and managing communication and many Slave modules. Communication between each modules introduced SPI(Serial Peripheral Interface) among many synchronous serial communication methods for the exact transmission and receipt of data. All communication executes by packet format. This can detect error. And, this protocol introduced PNP(Plug And Play) function that auto-detect connecting or removing module during running. This protocol exactly transmitted and received in faster speed more than 1Mbps. And in practical application to the ventilator this confirmed to give and take real-time data. And various functions by th central control system is implemented in this protocol.

  • Under the worldwide booming internet environment, there has been increasing demand for various multimedia services. Especially the demand for effective video services has been rapidly increased. In this paper, we describe the implementation of video service system for internet use based on H/263 video compression technique and UDP socket on the TCP/IP environment. In addition, by using the plug-in-play technique, the implemented system improved user interface for correct retrieval and easy usage.

  • 본 논문은 무선랜 기반의 UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) AV(Audio/Video) 장치들을 서로 가까이 근접시킴으로써, 자동으로 네트워크가 형성되고, AV 컨텐츠가 재생되는 기술을 제안한 것이다. 이를 지원하기 위해 무선랜 신호 강도에 의한 근접성 측정 알고리즘과 네트워크 파라메터 설정을 통한 자동 접속, UPnP AV 제어기와 연동하여 자동으로 AV 컨텐츠를 재생하는 방안을 포함한다. 또한 본 논문에서는 데스크톱 및 임베디드 리눅스 환경에서 이를 구현한 내용 및 결과를 기술한다.
