  • While South Korea's universal healthcare system has garnered attention in public health, the issue of inequality in healthcare service provision among different age groups has incessantly become a significant concern. The focus of this concern is primarily on essential healthcare services, encompassing fundamental aspects of healthcare such as internal medicine, family medicine, and pediatric and adolescent care. This inequality is not limited to differences among age groups (both junior and senior demographics) but also extends to potential disparities in healthcare services based on geographic location, particularly in urban and rural contexts. This paper aims to investigate disparities in primary healthcare service resources in South Korea's evolving economic landscape between 1995 and 2021. We utilize a set of inequality indices with a spatial perspective through geographic cluster analysis. The findings reveal that concerns about inequality have been amplified during various economic events, including the IMF crisis in 1999, the global financial crisis in 2008, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. These years are identified as significant phases that have contributed to manifesting spatial disparities in primary healthcare provisions, with a particular emphasis on the senior-aged population rather than junior or all population groups. Our findings underscore the pressing need to address the unequal distribution of essential healthcare resources as part of preparedness for potential economic impacts, requiring a comprehensive consideration of the interconnected nature of demographic and spatial dimensions in healthcare services.

  • After COVID-19, organizations have widely adopted platforms such as zoom or developed their proprietary online real-time systems for remote work, with recent forays into incorporating the metaverse for meetings and publicity. While ongoing studies investigate the impact of avatar customization, expansive virtual environments, and past virtual experiences on participant satisfaction within virtual reality or metaverse settings, the utilization of the metaverse as a dedicated workspace is still an evolving area. There exists a notable gap in research concerning the factors influencing the performance of the metaverse as a workspace, particularly in non-immersive work-type metaverses. Unlike studies focusing on immersive virtual reality or metaverses emphasizing immersion and presence, the majority of contemporary work-oriented metaverses tend to be non-immersive. As such, understanding the factors that contribute to the success of these existing non-immersive metaverses becomes crucial. Hence, this paper aims to empirically analyze the factors impacting personal outcomes in the non-immersive metaverse workspace and derive implications from the results. To achieve this, the study adopts the Embodied Social Presence (ESP) model as a theoretical foundation, modifying and proposing a research model tailored to the non-immersive metaverse workspace. The findings validate that the impact of presence on task engagement and task involvement exhibits a moderating effect based on the metaverse platform used. Following interviews with participants engaged in non-immersive metaverse workplaces (specifically Gather Town and Ifland), a survey was conducted to gather comprehensive insights.

  • This study analyzes the effects of firms' technology innovation(patent applications) on employment(number of workers and proportion of high-skilled workers) and corporate performance(sales per worker), while considering the two-way causal relationships between these variables. We used the three-stage least squares(3SLS) estimation to examine system of equations in which the dependent variables affect each other with a two-year lag wherever relevant, and applied it to firm-level panel data of Korean manufacturers with 100 or more workers. Our data covered the period of 2005-2017. Exogenous variables, such as firms' managerial and other characteristics, were controlled as explanatory variables. The identification variables for each equation included firms' R&D intensity, labor cost per worker(or operation of firms' own R&D center), and investment on worker training. We find that firms' patent applications increased number of workers, proportion of high-skilled workers, and sales per worker; the causal relationships in the opposite direction were also significant. Evidently, firms' technology innovation is critical to the growth and quality improvement of employment as well as sustainable corporate growth.

  • Bladder cancer is a relatively common cancer type, with a high recurrence rate, that can be often encountered in the imaging study. Accurate diagnosis and staging have a significant impact on determining treatment and evaluating prognosis. Bladder cancer has been evaluated by transurethral resection of bladder tumor for clinical staging and treatment, but it is often understaged when compared with final pathologic result by radical cystectomy. If the location, size, presence of muscle invasion, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and presence of upper urinary tract cancer can be accurately diagnosed and evaluated in an imaging study, it can be treated and managed more appropriately. For an accurate diagnosis, radiologists who evaluate the images must be aware of the characteristics of bladder cancer as well as its types, imaging techniques, and limitations of imaging studies. Recent developments in MRI with functional imaging have improved the quality of bladder imaging and the evaluation of cancer. In addition, the Vesical Imaging Reporting and Data System was published to objectively assess the possibility for muscle invasion of cancer. Radiologists need to know the types of bladder cancer treatment and how to evaluate the changes after treatment. In this article, the characteristics of bladder urothelial carcinoma, various imaging studies, and findings are reviewed.

  • Due to the continuous growth of the E-commerce market, the volume of orders that fulfillment centers have to process has increased, and various customer requirements have increased the complexity of order processing. Along with this trend, the operational efficiency of fulfillment centers due to increased labor costs is becoming more important from a corporate management perspective. Using historical performance data as training data, this study focused on real-time box recommendations applicable to packaging areas during fulfillment center shipping. Four types of data, such as product information, order information, packaging information, and delivery information, were applied to the machine learning model through pre-processing and feature-engineering processes. As an input vector, three characteristics were used as product specification information: width, length, and height, the characteristics of the input vector were extracted through a feature engineering process that converts product information from real numbers to an integer system for each section. As a result of comparing the performance of each model, it was confirmed that when the Gradient Boosting model was applied, the prediction was performed with the highest accuracy at 95.2% when the product specification information was converted into integers in 21 sections. This study proposes a machine learning model as a way to reduce the increase in costs and inefficiency of box packaging time caused by incorrect box selection in the fulfillment center, and also proposes a feature engineering method to effectively extract the characteristics of product specification information.

  • We rethink human existence as a assemblage through intersectionality by comparing autopoiesis and sympoiesis systems with reference to science fiction protagonists such as Ghost in the Shell, Neuralink, Camille, a genetic hybrid, and San Ti against the background of neo-materialism. Our findings reveal that, first, radical sympoiesis is characterized by the dissolution of individuals and boundaries, and attempt to explain existence solely through heterogeneous linkage and fusion; second, by ignoring the capacity for autonomous thinking at the individual level, they are unable to fully recognize the destructive nature of hybrid co-production or to develop practical responses to it. Third, we suggest that if the very survival of humanity is threatened by heterogeneous linkage, we should pay more attention to our identity as autonomous members of a autopoietic system rather than to heterogeneous sympoietic networks and we should also pay attention to the role of individual units in stabilizing self-regulation. Through this study, we aimed to contribute to overcoming the limitations of neo-materialism by arguing that it is likely to fail to provide an adequate practical vision if it is limited to describing the hybrid connections that recur through the intersection of beings, and by urging us to define the identity of the human species from a new perspective by utilizing various SF stories that trigger the imagination of destructive interactions between beings, and to explore the autopoiesis in terms of symbiotic interactions based on a certain level of boundary and self-regulation.

  • In Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, human understanding is emphasized as one of three necessary characteristics that a physician must have. Inflammation, which is caused by inflammatory inducers (inf-ids), is a fundamental feature of disease at the cellular and molecular levels. Inflammation protects the body, but excessive or prolonged inflammation can be damaging and can cause disease. Humans are repeatedly exposed to external and internal environmental factors that generate inf-ids throughout their lives. External environmental factors include microbial and non-microbial inf-ids, as well as stressors that inevitably arise during social interactions. Internal environmental factors include the adaptive physiological response that is present from birth. Inf-ids may also be produced by the four-step habit loop, which consists of a cue (e.g., stressor), emotions, routine act (adaptive response), and a reward. Immune cells in the circulatory system and in tissues may have positive and negative effects in inflammatory responses. However, low-grade inflammation may be difficult to detect. We propose a model of disease development that integrates external and internal environmental factors from the perspective of human understanding.

  • The aim of this study is to identify the competencies required for fashion-related majors that meet contemporary demands, align with the objectives of university education, and reflect the qualities desired in graduates. To achieve this goal, we conducted content analysis of relevant data and in-depth interviews with experts. First, the content analysis involved coding key information from the introductions, educational goals, desired qualities of graduates, and curricula published on the websites of both South Korea and international fashion-related universities. Additionally, we analyzed the National Competency Standards (NCS) and the Meta-goals of higher education programs set by the International Textile Apparel Association (ITAA), extracting six core competencies. Second, in-depth interviews were conducted with six experts, each with 23 to 31 years of experience in Korean and international apparel industry and academia. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and keywords were extracted. To ensure the validity of the coding results, cross-checks were performed among the researchers. The analysis identified the following competencies: empathic communication, social responsibility, professional thinking, creative and integrative thinking, global perspective, and challenging leadership. Based on these findings, establishing competencies that meet contemporary demands and developing corresponding curricula are essential steps towards creating a feedback system. Future research should focus on developing and implementing curricula that foster a virtuous cycle, ultimately enhancing students' competency levels.
