Sustainable Vibration Energy Harvesting Based on Zr-Doped PMN-PT Piezoelectric Single Crystal Cantilevers

  • In this paper, we present the results of a preliminary study on the piezoelectric energy harvesting performance of a Zr-doped $PbMg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}O_3-PbTiO_3$ (PMN-PZT) single crystal beam. A novel piezoelectric beam cantilever structure is used to demonstrate the feasibility of generating AC voltage during a state of vibration. The energy-harvesting capability of a PMN-PZT beam is calculated and tested. The frequency response of the cantilever device shows that the first mode resonance frequency of the excitation model exists in the neighborhood of several hundreds of hertz, which is similar to the calculated value. These tests show that several significantly open AC voltages and sub-mW power are achieved. To test the possibility of a small scale power source for a ubiquitous sensor network service, energy conversion and the testing of storage experiment are also carried out.

Piezoelectric and Dielectric Characteristics of Low Temperature Sintering PMgN-PMnN-PZT Ceramics (저온소결 PMgN-PMnN-PZT 세라믹스의 압전 및 유전 특성)

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering piezoelectric ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric actuator, $PbSr(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-(ZrTi)O_3$ ceramics were fabricated using $Na_{2}CO_{3}-Li_{2}CO_{3}$ as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the sintering tempo rature. At the sintering temperature of $900^{\circ}C$, the density, electrom echanical coupling factor(kp), mechanical quality factor(Qm) and dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}r$) of specimen showed the optimum value of $7.730[g/cm^2]$, 0.552, 1134, 1492 and 330[pC/N], respectively.

The Piezoelectric and Dielectric Properties of PZT-PMN Ceramics (PZT-PMN 압전 세라믹의 압전 및 유전 특성)

  • In this paper, the piezoelectric and dielectric properties as a function of x and a in $aPbZr_xTi_{1-x}O_3-(1-a)Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ + ywt%MgO is investigated. As a results, when a is 0.95 and x is 0.505, electromechanical coupling factor$(k_p)$, permittivity${\varepsilon}_33^T/{\varepsilon}_0$, piezoelectric strain constant$(d_{33})$ and mechanical quality factor$(Q_m)$ are 58 %, 1520, 272 pC/N and 1550, respectively. From XRD analysis, when x is 0.505, it is MPB which present rhombohedral and tetragonal phase in same quantity. Also, From SEM observation, when sintering temperature is $1150^{\circ}C$, grain size is about $2\;{\mu}m$. As a results added MgO dopant in the ternary piezoelectric ceramic, when MgO content is 0.1 wt%, $k_p$ increases to 63[%].

Enhancement in Piezoelectric Properties of PZT-Based Ceramics by High Energy Ball-Milling Treatment of Solid-State Synthesized Powders

  • The effects of high energy ball-milling (HEBM) on the sintering behavior and piezoelectric properties of 0.1 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped 0.8Pb($Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$-0.2Pb($Zr_{0.475}Ti_{0.525}$)$O_3$ (PMN-PZT) ceramics were investigated. It was found that HEBM treatment was quite effective to reduce the average particle size down to 300 nm, leading to increased density as well as enhanced piezoelectric properties of a sintered specimen even though prolonged HEBM resulted in unwanted secondary phases that caused a degradation of piezoelectric properties. The dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_r$), piezoelectric coupling factor ($k_p$) and piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$ of 0.1 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped PMN-PZT ceramics prepared via HEBM for 10 h reached 2040, 0.68 and 554 pC/N, respectively.

  • In this paper, we have proposed piezoelectric energy harvester employing the pillar structure with the diameter size of 500 um. So we have selected the Su-8 photo-resist and modified lithography process to manufacture the pillar structure with height above the $500{\mu}m$. Simultaneously, we tried to make a comparative study to use ceramic bulk - polymer structure In this paper, we will report the process and properties of micro pillar structure based on the PMN-PZT ($Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbZrTiO_3$) materials. Finally, We will propose a method for generating electrical energy with a piezoelectric element using vibration, an energy source can be obtained from the "clean" energy.

  • In this study, the piezoelectric energy harvester was investigated employing the pillar structure with the diameter size of 50~500 um. Usually, the aspect ratio between the height and diameter was related with the piezoelectric performance. High aspect ratio was showed the low electric noise and high piezoelectric properties than low aspect ratio. Therefore, we have selected the Su-8 photo-resist and modified lithography process to manufacture the pillar structure with height above the 250 ${\mu}m$. In this presentation, we will report the process and properties of micro pillar structure based on the PMN-PZT (Pb$(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$-PbZrTiO$_3$) materials.

  • 압전 액츄에이터는 다른 종류의 액츄에이터와 비교할 때 높은 강성, 빠른 응답성의 우수한 특성을 가지고 있다. 벤더형 액츄에이터는 높은 변위의 장점을 가지나 높은 전기장과 기계적 부하인가시에는 내부 응력이 증가하므로서 신뢰성이 감소한다는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 여러 방법으로 내부 응력을 줄이려는 시도가 있으며 그중 하나는 경사기능 소재나 경사기능 구조를 가지는 액츄에이터의 개발이다. 본 연구에서는 경사기능 특성을 모사한 액츄에이터 구조를 제작하고 그 특성을 조사하였다. 두 가지의 압전상수 d31= - 220 pC/N, d31 =- 100 pC/N를 가지는 세라믹층을 적층하여 벤더형 액츄에이터의 특성을 관찰하였다. 그 결과 두 종류의 세라믹층으로 적층한 액츄에이터가 한가지 특성의 세라믹으로 제작한 액츄에이터 보다 전압인가시 20%이상의 우수한 변위 특성을 나타내었다. 이러한 변화는 내부 응력의 감소에 기인한 것으로 예상된다.
