Vacuum freeze drying process by which frozen water in a drying material is removed sublimation under vacuum condition, is now applied to various industrial field such as the manufacturing and packaging of pharmaceuticals in pharmaceutical industry, the drying of bio- products in bio-technology industry, the treatment of various quality food stuff in food technology, and so on. The Knowledge about the heat and mass transfer characteristics related with the vacuum freeze drying process is crucial to improve the efficiency of the process as well as the quality of dried products. In spite of increasing needs for understanding of the process, the research efforts in this fields are still insufficient. In this paper, a numerical code that can predict primary drying in a vial is developed based on the finite volume method with a moving grid system. The calculation program can handle the axis- symmetric and multi-dimensional characteristics of heat and mass transfer of the vial freeze drying process. To demonstrated the usefulness of the present analysis, a practical freeze drying of skim Milk solution in a vial is simulated and various calculation results are presented.
Generally, development of a robot capable of fast movements or high payloads is progressed by the analysis of dynamic characteristics, DOF positioning, actuator selection, structure of links, and so on. This paper highlights the design of a robot manipulator handled by a human for man-machine cooperation. The requirements of the proposed system include its having multi-DOF(Degree of Freedom)and the capacity for a high payload in the condition of its maximum reach. The primary investigation factors are motion range, performance within the motion area, and reliabilityduring the handling of heavy materials. Traditionally, the mechanical design of robots has been viewed as a problem of packaging motors and electronics into a reasonable structure. This process usually transpires with heavy reliance of designerexperience. Not surprisingly, the traditional design process contains no formally defined rules for achieving desirable results, as there is little opportunity for quantitative feedback during the formative stages. This work primarily focuses on the selection of proper joint types and link lengths, considering a specific task type and motion requirements of the heavy material handling.

Recently porous polymer has widely been applied to packaging, heat isolation, and sound absorption in various fields from the electrics to the automobiles industry. A lot of micro porosities inside foamed polymer provide lower heat conduction and lighter weight than non-porous polymer, because they involve gas or air during foaming process. In this paper experimental approaches of the UV laser micro machining behavior for Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) foamed polymer materials, which have different expansion rates, were investigated. From these results, the ablation phenomena were finally observed that the ablation is depended upon stronger photo-chemical than photo-thermal effect. This study will also help us to understand interaction between UV laser beam and porous polymer.

This paper presents a novel MEMS condenser microphone with rigid backplate to enhance acoustic characteristics. The MEMS condenser microphone consists of membrane and backplate chips which are bonded together by gold-tin(Au/Sn) eutectic solder bonding. The membrane chip has $2.5mm{\times}2.5mm$, 0.5${\mu}m$ thick low stress silicon nitride membrane, $2mm{\times}2mm$ Au/Ni/Cr membrane electrode, and 3${\mu}m$ thick Au/Sn layer. The backplate chip has $2mm{\times}2mm$, 150${\mu}m$ thick single crystal silicon rigid backplate, $1.8mm{\times}1.8mm$ backplate electrode, and air gap, which is fabricated by bulk micromachining and silicon deep reactive ion etching. Slots and $50{\sim}60{\mu}m$ radius circular acoustic holes to reduce air damping are also formed in the backplate chip. The fabricated microphone sensitivity is 39.8 ${\mu}V/Pa$(-88 dB re. 1 V/Pa) at 1 kHz and 28 V polarization voltage. The microphone shows flat frequency response within 1 dB between 20 Hz and 5 kHz.

This paper presents an automated subsurface micro void detection technique based on pulsed infrared thermography for inspecting epoxy molding compounds (EMC) used in electronic device packaging. Subsurface micro voids are first detected and visualized by extracting a lock-in amplitude image from raw thermal images. Binary imaging follows to achieve better visualization of subsurface micro voids. A median filter is then applied for removing sparse noise components. The performance of the proposed technique is tested using 36 EMC samples, which have subsurface (below $150{\mu}m{\sim}300{\mu}m$ from the inspection surface) micro voids ($150{\mu}m{\sim}300{\mu}m$ in diameter). The experimental results show that the subsurface micro voids can be successfully detected without causing any damage to the EMC samples, making it suitable for automated online inspection.
The wall painting and Relief type sculpture were a part of an architecture. Therefore they had better to be preserved in situ, differing with other works of arts. But we confronted inevitable cases to transfer them in appropriate place to conserve. And considering their fragility and a potential danger such as a vibration and shock in process of transfer, we had to do the preventive treatments to prohibit unexpected deteriorations. In this paper, I mention the transferring process when Kwon's 'Relief' was faced to be removed by reconstruction program. A preventive treatment and packaging method were referred in priority.

Coolstore air relative humidity (RH) is an important factor affecting the quality of horticultural products, particularly via product moisture loss. RH also has an important effect on the performance of the refrigeration evaporators and can affect the strength of paper-based packaging materials. In a large New Zealand apple coolstore, RH increased from about 75% early in season to 90% at the end, as activities in the coolstore and external conditions changed. A steady-state analysis of sensible and latent heat entry and heat removal during four typical operational periods over the season was carried out. Predicted RH was in good agreement with measured dat. For the coolstore studied, evaporator surface area and the occurrence of pre-cooling within the coolstore were the design and operational factors having greatest effect on RH. Door protection and management, and floor insulation were the next more significant factors. The method of analysis has more general application and ould be used in a variety of situations so that design for optimum RH can be performed systematically.

Purpose: Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are natural polymers that have been promoted as a next generation of new, sustainable materials. CNCs are invaluable as reinforcing materials for composites because they can impart improved mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties and they are biodegradable. The purpose of this review is to provide researchers with information that can assist in the application of CNCs extracted from waste agricultural byproducts (e.g. rice husks, corncobs, pineapple leaves). Methods & Results: This paper presents the unique characteristics of CNCs based on agricultural byproducts, and lists processing methods for manufacturing CNCs from agricultural byproducts. Various mechanical treatments (microfluidization and homogenization) and chemical treatments (alkali treatment, bleaching and hydrolysis) can be performed in order to generate nanocellulose. CNC-based composite properties and various applications are also discussed. Conclusions: CNC-based composites from agricultural byproducts can be combined to meet end-use applications such as sensors, batteries, films, food packaging, and 3D printing by utilizing their properties. The review discusses applications in food engineering, biological engineering, and cellulose-based hydrogels.

High performance packages must protect circuits from the internal leakaged-electromagnetic fields as well as the surrounding. In this paper, we characterized an electromagnetically-shielded millimeter-wave ceramic package from 20 to 40 ㎓ using FEM(Finite Element Method). From these calculation results, the parasitic resonance is observed at 33.4 ㎓. We use metal-filled via-holes at the ceramic package walls and resonance has been suppressed in a frequency range from 20 to 40 ㎓. These calculation results will be helpful for MMIC packaging using electromagnetically-shielded millimeter-wave ceramic packages.
This paper proposed a new concept of information space called Smart Floor. Smart Floor is an intelligent space where a mobile robot can read and write specific information through Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) tags which are mounted on Smart Floor to drive its goal position. RFID tag packaging technology is described for building Smart Floor. Also a mobile robot equipped passive RFID System with ultra high frequency (UHF) bandwidth has developed. The information that consists of an absolute position in the Smart Floor and desired direction saved on RFID tags is a simulated Q-value based on Q-learning algorithm. Proposed Smart Floor will be a proper method to communicate between space and robot.
