Effects of Lumbar Mobilization and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation on Proprioception and Muscular Strength in Volleyball Players with Chronic Knee Pain

  • Background: The spinal nerves, which start at the lumbar level, are connected to the nerve innervation in the knees. Currently, there is a lack of research on the treatment of knee pain through lumbar mobilization. Objectives: To investigate the effects of lumbar joint mobilization (LJM) and transcutaneous electronic nerve stimulation (TENS) on proprioception and muscular strength in volleyball players with chronic knee pain. Design: Two group pre-posttest. Methods: A total of 26 professional volleyball players with chronic knee pain were allocated to the LJM (n=13) and TENS (n=13) groups. In the LJM group, grade III - IV amplitude was applied 3 times for 1 minute (80 times per minute) at the affected lumbar (L2-3) facet joint in the prone position. In the TENS group, the TENS treatment device was used to directly apply or 15 minutes to the area of chronic knee pain (100 Hz, 150 ㎲). Proprioception was measured by knee flexion and extension angles, and muscle strength was evaluated using an isokinetic test. Measurements were taken before and after interventions. Results: In the eye opened conditiond, proprioception significantly increased during both knee extension and flexion after LJM, while only knee extension was significantly increased in the TENS group. There was also a significant difference in knee extension between the two groups. In the eye close conditiond, proprioception was significantly improved only during knee extension in the LJM group, and the difference in knee extension between the groups was also significant (P<.05). The maximum torque of the affected knee joint was significantly improved at 60°/sec in both groups (P<.05); however, there was no difference between the two groups. There was no significant difference in the maximum flexion torque within or between the groups. Conclusion: This study suggests that LJM improved proprioception and muscular strength in volleyball players with chronic knee pain.

The Effect of Atrophy of the Inpraspinatus on Strength and ROM in Shoulder Joint of Male Volleyball Players (배구선수들의 극하근 근위축이 어깨 관절 회전근력과 운동범위에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to quantify the isokinetic peak torque and range of motion at the shoulder in 8 national male volleyball players who played during the 2008 professional leagues. In this study the strength and range of motion data in the internal rotation(IR) and external rotation(ER) of shoulder joint were measured with isokinetic measurement system(Biodex Inc) and motion analysis system (Simi motion system Inc.) from 3 volleyball players with atrophy of the infrasupinatus and 5 volleyball players without atrophy of the infraspinatus. Peak torques were determined using isokinetic measurement on the shoulder joint rotator at the point of angular velocities of $60^{\circ}$/s. Significant difference was found in the peak torque, IR / ER ratio and the range of motion through assessment of the dominant shoulder between two groups. we recommended functional exercises that improve both external rotators strength and stretching exercise for internal rotation in the dominant side during the prevention programs in volleyball players.

An Analysis on the Present State of Korean Professional Cheerleader's Uniform Design (국내 프로 치어리더 유니폼 디자인 현황분석)

  • This thesis aims to provide basic resources for the development of various uniform designs of cheerleaders by investigating the currently favoured uniform designs. The 13 professional cheerleader teams were existed among the 25 professional sports teams-9 baseball, 10 basketball and 6 volleyball teams. In each sports teams, four cheerleader's uniform were chosen and evaluated in terms of the cheerleader uniform design by analyzing the forms, colors, decorations and accessories. The result shows that the common kinds of design representing the symbolic color and the emblem were generally prevalent, instead of particular types of uniform design and subject in accordance with different kinds of the professional baseball, basketball and volleyball respectively. Throughout all the kinds of the sports, the combination of the sleeveless top and hot-pants were most frequently observed. In case of the skirts, the mini flare, wrap, and pleats skirts were the most prevalent, because it gave free to motion for cheerleading. The one-piece style were rather infrequent, comparing with the two-pieces, with the hourglass and fitted silhouette the most frequent type, and all those were mini in length. The sleeve in top were generally absent or short, however the bare top style was never found that the top would have a risk of being taken off downwardly during cheerleading. The accessories and the cheering tools were not so much used. The cap and headdresses were not many in kinds. The pompom, megaphone, tube stick, towel, umbrella and musical instruments would not be sufficient to play a role of tools for cheering, which suggests that the rather advanced tools or instruments for cheering in the sports need to be developed, not alone the uniform design.

Analyzing the Uniform Colors of Professional Team Sports in South Korea

  • Although an extensive body of research exists on sports uniform colors in the West,there is a dearth of research on South Korean sports uniforms, especially in the domain of professional teams ports. This study aims to identify and analyze the colors of sports uniforms of 56 professional teams listed on the Korea Professional Sports Association (KPSA) for a range of team sports (e.g. football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and golf). The number of colors of each team's uniform and the ordinal ranking of these colors were recorded and analyzed. Furthermore,the number of colors and parent company colors were grouped by gender and league. Overall, 80.4% of the teams preferred three to four colors with white, black, blue, and red being the most popular colors. Every team's primary, secondary, or graphic logo colors on their uniforms included white. The gender variable was partially significant, emphasizing culturally significant colors such as pink. The parent company's color showed a significant connection with the team's uniform colors. This result was related to the historical origins of South Korean professional team sports and their unique relationship with chaebols. Based on the findings, this study concludes that visibility and contrast factors, as well as historical aspects relating to the concept of glocalization play an important role in the color choices of South Korean team uniforms.

Analysis of Spike Motion in Male Professional Volleyball foreigner Players (남자 프로배구 용병선수들의 스파이크 동작 분석)

  • This study was conducted to provide useful information for the scientific training of spikes and instruction, by analyzing all kinematical variants including time, distance, velocity, angle factors in spike movements of volleyball matches. The subjects were 4 foreigner players, who participated in the V-League of 2008-2009. The conclusion from this study is as follows. Time for a jumping step was .33s, and Angelko had a bit longer takeoff time than other players. In Angelko and Anderson who were leading in attack power, the whole distance of a spike motion was relatively short, less than 4m. The moment when the center of gravity reached the lowest point was when the right foot bearing weight in the jumping step was passing the left foot, and the highest point of gravity was 2.30m, which appeared just before the impact. The horizontal speed of the center of the gravity was highest as 4.19m/s at the beginning of a jumping step, and lowest at the stance phase of the fore foot just before takeoff. The vertical speed of the center of the gravity was lowest after the right foot touched the ground, and highest after the takeoff of the fore foot. Impact was 3.22m, and the highest ball speed was 28.18m/s.

Matching prediction on Korean professional volleyball league (한국 프로배구 연맹의 경기 예측 및 영향요인 분석)

  • This study analyzes the Korean professional volleyball league and predict match outcomes using popular machine learning classification methods. Match data from the 2012/2013 to 2022/2023 seasons for both male and female leagues were collected, including match details. Two different data structures were applied to the models: Separating matches results into two teams and performance differentials between the home and away teams. These two data structures were applied to construct a total of four predictive models, encompassing both male and female leagues. As specific variable values used in the models are unavailable before the end of matches, the results of the most recent 3 to 4 matches, up until just before today's match, were preprocessed and utilized as variables. Logistc Regrssion, Decision Tree, Bagging, Random Forest, Xgboost, Adaboost, and Light GBM, were employed for classification, and the model employing Random Forest showed the highest predictive performance. The results indicated that while significant variables varied by gender and data structure, set success rate, blocking points scored, and the number of faults were consistently crucial. Notably, our win-loss prediction model's distinctiveness lies in its ability to provide pre-match forecasts rather than post-event predictions.

Performance analysis of volleyball games using the social network and text mining techniques (사회네트워크분석과 텍스트마이닝을 이용한 배구 경기력 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic information to develop a game strategy plan of a team in a future by identifying the patterns of attack and pass of national men's professional volleyball teams and extracting core key words related with volleyball game performance to evaluate game performance using 'social network analysis' and 'text mining'. As for the analysis result of 'social network analysis' with the whole data, group '0' (6 players) and group '1' (11 players) were partitioned. A point of view the degree centrality and betweenness centrality in 'social network analysis' results, we can know that the group '1' more active game performance than the group '0'. The significant result for two group (win and loss) obtained by 'text mining' according to two groups ('0' and '1') obtained by 'social network analysis' showed significant difference (p-value: 0.001). As for clustering of each network, group '0' had the tendency to score points through set player D and E. In group '1', the player K had the tendency to fail if he attack through 'dig'; players C and D have a good performance through 'set' play.

An Analysis of High School Students' Expectance Demand on The Design of the Physical Education Teaching (체육수업 설계에 대한 고등학생의 기대요구 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze students' expectance demand towards high school physical education teaching. Methords : 392 participants randomly selected from one girls' middle school and one girl's high school in each of five tracts and then selected two classes from each of the schools. They were asked to respond to a simple questionnaire about their views on the present physical education teaching. Results : Results showed that about one third of the participants would not choose physical education if the program were offered as an optional subject. Both male and female students ranked psychomotor domain as the top priority among the various learning objectives. Male students favored soccer and basketball while their counterparts liked badminton and volleyball. Over three-fourths of the participants suggested that students' opinions should be considered when teachers plan their program. Conclusion : The results of this study recommended that physical education teaching should be designed with considerations for professional values, societal changes as well as students' expectance on the design of physical education.
