Correlation between propagation of bush-type electrical tree and internal partial discharges(PD) was discussed. We used specimens with needle-plane electrode system made of LDPE(Low Density Polyethylene), observed inception and propagation of electrical tree by optical microscope interfaced with computer and investigated characteristics of phase resolved PD pulses accompanying with propagation of electrical tree. Electrical tree generally growed bush-type tree. PD data detected and analyzed were average discharge current and statistical operator of q-n, $\psi$- $q_{avg}$, $\psi$-n, ${\psi}-q_{max}$ distribution. Parameters used were skewness, kurtosis, average discharge phase, cross-correlation factor, asymmetry and etc. In generally, average discharge current had good linear relationship with propagation of bush type electrical tree on this experiment. Peak discharge magnitude and repetition rate were increased, but they had not good linear relationship.p.

Partial discharge(PD) testing for different capacitive couplers was performed on a 6.6kV, 448kW pulverizer motor. The motor has been in service for twenty years. PD tests were measured using digital partial discharge detector(DPDD) and partial discharge analyzer(PDA), respectively. PDA is used to in the motor stator insulation, which three 80pF or three 500pF epoxy-mica couplers were installed, one per phase. The 500pF couplers did detect more normalized quantity number(NQN) than the 80pF couplers. DPDD and PDA showed that PD and NQN magnitudes increased with increase of ac voltage. Internal discharge was discovered in the motor stator insulation. DPDD and PDA test results are in accordance with the pattern and magnitude of PD.

In this work, the correlation between the PD Patterns and the electrical tree propagation has been investigated by use of the specimen removed from the insulation of the real 154 kV XLPE underground power cables. As a result, it could be deduced that the PD pattern regarding electrical trees depends on their type which could be classified into three different distinct groups such as branch-bush mixed. Considering the results of our investigation, if the partial discharge magnitude is only considered for the diagnosis of the cable system, it is possible to draw a wrong decision. Therefore, it is possible to propose that the time characteristics of PD pattern should be taken into account for the diagnosis of the cable system in addition to the conventional $\Phi$-q-n characteristics.

Gas insulated switchgear(GIS) is an important equipment in a substation. It is highly desirable to measure a partial discharge(PD) in GIS which is a symptom before insulation breakdown occurs. The issue is that the PD signal is weak and sensitive to external noise. In this paper, the algorithm for detection of PD in GIS using wavelet transform is proposed. The wavelet transform provides a direct quantitative measure of spectral content, "dynamic spectrum", in the time-frequency domain. The recommended mother wavelet is 'Daubechies' wavelet. 'db4', the most commonly applied mother wavelet in the power quality analysis, can be used most properly in disturbance phenomena which occurs rapidly for a short time. Through the procedure of wavelet transform, noise extraction and reconstruction, the signal is Analyzed to determine the magnitude of PD in GIS. In experimental results, we can know that partial discharge is exactly detected in combination of Dl and D2 using wavelet transform.transform.

In this paper, a new on-line high-voltage motor monitoring system is proposed. This system monitors the insulation condition of the stator winding by on-line measurements of partial discharge (PD). And this system displays magnitude and phase angle distribution of PD. Sensor, CC (Ceramic Coupler) is used for PD measurement. PD signals are continuously measured and digitized with a A/D converter to build the database of the high-voltage motor's insulation condition. Also, this system can communicate with the central monitoring system via RS-232, 422, and TCP/IP. This helps more efficient operation and maintenance of the high-voltage motor.
In this paper the insulation characteristics test results of 25 low-voltage induction motors($3\phi$, 5HP, 380V) are presented. Five different types of insulation techniques are applied to 25 motors. The maximum partial discharge (PD) magnitude ($\textrm{Q}_{m}$) discharge inception voltage (DIV) dissipation factor tip-up ($\Delta$tan$\delta$) and rate of change in AC current($\Delta$I) are measured by PD and AC current tests. Also the insulation breakdown tests by high voltage pulse are performed and the corresponding breakdown voltage are obtained.
Partial discharges(PD) is a important factor to evaluate the insulation state in high voltage electric machinery. However, measuring PD under the circumstances of power plant is occasionally impossible due to the relatively high magnitude of noise which is emanated from the operating machinery. In some case, the instrument measuring PD can not even perform a calibration that initializes tools and enhance the accuracy. This paper presents that we devised a noise reduction method and demonstrated the usefulness in acquiring reliable PD signals. We attached a series of filter and transformer at the input of power source of the instruments which refrains high noise signals from incoming to the instruments. We experimented the efficiency of noise reduction applying the device into the Dangjin Power Plant and Factory. As a result of testing with the filter and transformer, we can easily calibrate the PD signal compared to the case without the device. Additionally, we can detect the small PD signal which was unperceived with a normal device.

The off-line and on-line partial discharge (PD) in the stator winding of three high-voltage (HV) motors (1,400 HP, 6.6 kV) is measured and analyzed in this paper. The off-line PD is measured at high values between 24,300 ~ 36,100 pC after 18 years of motor operation. Spare replacement motors were not available for testing the degree of deterioration of the stator windings in standstill status. Therefore, on-line periodic analysis was conducted to monitor the trend of PD after installing a ceramic sensor (110 pF, 6.6 kV) in the terminal box for each phase of each motor. In the stator winding of the No.1 and No.2 HV motors, which showed high magnitudes of off-line PD and low magnitudes of on-line PD, defects are expected to appear in the neutral end of the winding. On the contrary, in the stator windings of the No.3 HV motor, which exhibits high off-line and on-line PD magnitude, defects are expected to appear in the terminal end of the winding where a voltage close to the phase voltage is applied.
In recent times, development of nanofluid insulation for power transformers is a hot research topic. Many researchers reported the enhancement in dielectric characteristics of nano modified mineral oils. Considering the drawbacks of petroleum based mineral oil, it is necessary to understand the dielectric characteristics of nanofluids developed with natural ester based oils. Palm oil has better insulation characteristics comparable to mineral oil. However very few research reports is available in the area of nanofluids based on palm oil. Partial discharge (PD) is one of the major sources of insulation performance degradation of transformer oil. It is essential to understand the partial discharge(PD) characteristics by collecting huge data base of PD performance of nano modified palm oil which will increase its confidence level for power transformer application. Knowing these facts, in the present work, certain laboratory experiments have been performed on PD characteristics of nano $SiO_2$ modified palm oil at different electrode configurations. Influence of concentration of nano filler material on the PD characteristics is also studied. Partial discharge inception voltage, Phase resolved partial discharge (PRPD) pattern, PD signal time-frequency domain characteristics, PD signal equivalent timelength-bandwidth mapping, Weibull distribution statistical parameters of PRPD pattern, skewness, repetition rate and phase angle variations are evaluated at different test conditions. From the results of the experiments conducted, we came to understand that PD performance of palm oil is considerably enhanced with the addition of $nano-SiO_2$ filler at 0.01%wt and 0.05%wt concentration. Significant reduction in PD inception voltage, repetition rate, Weibull shape parameter and PD magnitude are noticed with addition of $SiO_2$ nanofillers in palm oil. These results will be useful for recommending nano modified palm oil for power transformer applications.

In this paper, parameters related with partial discharge (PD) were analyzed in SF6 gas under AC and DC voltages. Three electrode systems (protrusion on conductor, protrusion on enclosure, and free particle) were fabricated to simulate PD defects in a gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). All electrode systems were filled with SF6 gas at 0.5 MPa. PD pulses were detected using an oscilloscope and a data acquisition (DAQ) based on IEC 60270. To analyze the PD characteristics under AC and DC voltages, parameters such as discharge inception voltage (DIV), discharge extinction voltage (DEV), pulse magnitude, repetition rate, and T-F map were compared. From the experimental results, PD was revealed to have different characteristics under AC and DC, and these results may be useful for diagnosis of power facilities operated under HVDC.
