This paper forcuses on methods of achieving a direct vector control of induction motors for an electric vehicle based on a closed-loop flux observer. Also over-modulation topology and maximum torque per ampere over the entire field weakening region have been implemented. The proposed scheme is verified through the simulation and the experiment using the chassis dynampmeter and road load driving test for the induction motor controller and the electric vehicle system.
We have developed a miniature fisheye lens with $190^{\circ}$ field of view operating simultaneously in the visible and the near infrared wavelengths. The modulation transfer function characteristic for the visible wavelength is sufficient for a mega-pixel-grade image sensor. The lens also has a fair resolution in the infrared wavelength region. The calibrated $f-{\theta}$ distortion is less than 5%, and the relative illumination is over 90%. In consequence, a sharp wide-angle image can be obtained which is uniform in brightness over the entire range of field angles. The real image heights for the visible and the near infrared wavelengths have been fitted to polynomial functions of incidence angle with sub-pixel accuracies. Combined with the near equidistance projection scheme of the lens, this lens can be advantageously employed in various image-processing applications requiring a wide-angle lens.

The efficiency of a synchronous motor can be substantially improved by controlling armature voltage, field excitation, and load angle on optimum values which yield minimum input power at any specified torque and speed. This improvement is particularly noticeable in the case of light loads. In addition, the control of armature input voltage improves the power factor at which the motor operates. Employed in the analysis is a new equivalent circuit model of the motor which incorporates the frequency dependent nature of the motor parameters and the effects of iron loss. The stability of synchronous motor operation is studied by applying the Nyquist stability criterion to the linearized equations which describe the behavior of the motor as the motor loads perturb about a steady-state operating point. This investigation reveals that, in some cases, the stable region of the motor is delineated from the results of a computer simulation. With a view to reducing harmonic loss and improving torque pulsation from harmonic components, a very poweful pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) method using an 16-bit microcomputer has been developed. This method has the advantages of simplicity of control algorithms and requires small memory space for storing thyristor trigger angles for a three-phase PAM inverter. The method can be used for smooth control of both modulation depth and frequency over a wide range.
In this paper, we propose a predictive resource metric region (RMR) based radio resource metric estimation (RRME) mechanism, which utilizes a resource metric mapping function (RMMF), both of which permit efficient inter-working between the physical layer and higher layers for envisaging multimedia service applications over a CDMA communication system platform. The RMR can provide the acceptable resource region where QoS and acceptable link quality can be guaranteed with an achievable resource margin to be utilized in terms of capacity margin, the degree of confidence (DCL) of user, second-order statistics of Eb/Io. With predicted capacity margin and variance, DCL can deliver decision parameters with which an adaptive QoS based admission control can perform well taking capacity and resource availability into account in a dynamic and predictive manner. Combined with advanced techniques such as adaptive modulation or rate control and power control, the proposed mechanism can adjust the conventional stringent link quality information efficiently, and deliver accurate information of the resource availability. Thus, these can guarantee the maximization of resource utilization of multimedia service applications.
The purpose of this study was to present an improved method of dose modulation over the increase of build-up for existing 6 MV photon beam. Two neodymium permanent magnets with a strength of 0.5 T (Tesla) were applied with a magnetic field perpendicular to the photon beam. The effects of dose on build-up region with or without the magnetic field were measured according to the magnet-to-magnet distance (MMS) and the magnet-to-surface distance (MSD). For MMS = 6 cm and MSD = 2.5 cm, $D_{0mm}$, $D_{2mm}$, $D_{5mm}$, and $D_{10mm}$ showed improved doses of 6.8 %, 14.6 %, 6.9 %, and 2.1 %, respectively, as compared with 6 MV open beam. In this study, the device with low strength magnetic field can be applied directly to the outside of the human body when the target volume located close to the skin is delivered with radiation. It is expected that the method of build-up modulation using a low strength magnetic field will be feasible in the clinical applications.

To supplement energy needs and take advantage of renewable energy sources, many wind farms are currently being built in mountainous areas under the supervision of the Korean government. However, operation of these wind farms can cause serious threats to national security due to Doppler modulation from the wind turbines causing interference with military radar operating in the vicinity. Therefore it is necessary to develop methods to analyze the Doppler frequency during the operation of wind turbines and the effect on radar signals. Based on modeling of the mountainous region, blockage analysis, turbine motion and the radar signals, this paper proposes a signal processing method to extract and analyze the Doppler frequency. Simulation results showed the change of Doppler frequency over time caused by the geometry of the mountainous area and the wind turbine.
Computed radiography (CR) systems, which convert an analog signal recorded on a cassette into a digital image, combine the characteristics of analog and digital imaging systems. Compared to digital radiography (DR) systems, CR systems have presented difficulties in evaluating system performance because of their lower detective quantum efficiency, their lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and lower modulation transfer function (MTF). During the step of energy-storing and reading out, a baseline offset occurs in the edge area and makes low-frequency overestimation. The low-frequency offset component in the line spread function (LSF) critically affects the MTF and other image-analysis or qualification processes. In this study, we developed the method of baseline correction using mathematical morphology to determine the LSF and MTF of CR systems accurately. We presented a baseline correction that used a morphological filter to effectively remove the low-frequency offset from the LSF. We also tried an MTF evaluation of the CR system to demonstrate the effectiveness of the baseline correction. The MTF with a 3-pixel structuring element (SE) fluctuated since it overestimated the low-frequency component. This overestimation led the algorithm to over-compensate in the low-frequency region so that high-frequency components appeared relatively strong. The MTFs with between 11- and 15-pixel SEs showed little variation. Compared to spatial or frequency filtering that eliminated baseline effects in the edge spread function, our algorithm performed better at precisely locating the edge position and the averaged LSF was narrower.

In this paper we propose a design algorithm for nonbinary LDPC (low-density parity-check) codes with low error-floors. The proposed algorithm determines the nonbinary values of the nonzero entries in the parity-check matrix in order to maximize the binary minimum distance of the designed nonbinary LDPC codes. We verify the performance of the designed nonbinary LDPC codes in the error-floor region by Monte Carlo simulation and importance sampling over BPSK (binary phase-shift keying) modulation.

To examine the movement of the freshwater discharged artificially into the estuary during ebbing period in the Keum River dike we observed surface salinity variations in three stations along the estuary channel in May 1998 and July 1997 and surface temperature and salinity along the ferry-route between Kunsan and Changhang during eighteen days in July 1999. Based upon the typical features of observed salinity variation, we analyzed the excursion and decay processes of the discharged water. When freshwater is discharged, the low-salinity water forms strong salinity front over the entire estuary width, which basically moves forth and back by tidal modulation along the channel, producing the sudden change of surface salinity with the front passage. Salinity distribution along the channel, which is deduced from time variation of mean salinity over the estuary width, after one tidal period from gate operation suggests that diluted low-salinity water is trapped to the front and surface salinity increases gradually toward the upstream region. This frontal distribution of salinity is interpreted to be produced by the sudden gate operation supplying and stopping of freshwater within about two hours. Daily repeat of freshwater discharge produces separation (double front) or merge between decaying and new-generated fronts depending on dike-gate opening time, and the front decays with salinity increasing if the freshwater supply is stopped more than two days. In addition, the observed fluctuations and deviations in surface salinity variation is explained in terms of the differences of fronts intensity, their transition time and temporal salinity front running along the channel, which can be generated due to artificial gate-operation for the discharging time and water volume in the estuary dike.

This paper presents a DC-DC buck converter with a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) that can compensates for power efficiency degradation over a wide input range. Its switching frequency is kept at 2 MHz and the delay difference between the High side driver and the Low side driver can be minimized with respect to Process, Voltage and Temperature (PVT) variations by adopting the PLL. The operation mode of the proposed DC-DC buck converter is automatically changed to Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) or PWM frequency modes according to the load condition (heavy load or light load) while supporting a maximum load current of up to 1.2 A. The PWM frequency mode is used to extend the CCM region under the light load condition for the PWM operation. As a result, high efficiency can be achieved under the light load condition by the PWM frequency mode and the delay compensation with the PLL. The proposed DC-DC buck converter is fabricated with a $0.18{\mu}m$ BCD process, and the die area is $3.96mm^2$. It is implemented to have over a 90 % efficiency at an output voltage of 5 V when the input range is between 8 V and 20 V. As a result, the variation in the power efficiency is less than 1 % and the maximum efficiency of the proposed DC-DC buck converter with the PLL is 95.4 %.
