The Effects of Self-Leadership and Self-Efficacy on Organizational Effectiveness and Organizational Citizenship Behavior in Nurses (간호사의 셀프리더십과 자기효능감이 조직유효성과 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of self-leadership and self-efficacy on organizational performance, or more specifically, job satisfaction, organizational concentration and organizational citizenship behavior and then the effects of hospital organization members' job attitude on organizational performance, helping strengthen capability that individuals of the members have and ultimately improve that performance. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. First, self-leadership has statistically significant effects on organizational citizenship behavior. Second, self-leadership has statistically significant influences on self-effectiveness, especially job satisfaction and organizational concentration. Third, how self-efficacy influences organizational effectiveness was examined to find that self-efficacy has significant effects on organizational concentration, but not on job satisfaction. Fourth, self-efficacy has no effect on organizational citizenship behavior. Fifth, how organizational effectiveness influences organizational citizenship behavior was investigated to find that effectiveness has statistically significant effects on organizational concentration, but not on job satisfaction.

Factors influencing Nurses' Organizational Citizenship Behavior (간호사의 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the factors that influence nurses' organizational citizenship behavior. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used, with a convenience sample of 547 nurses from four university hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The data were collected through a questionnaire survey done from September 22 to October 10, 2008. The tools used for this study were scales on organizational citizenship behavior (14 items), self-leadership (14 items), empowerment (10 items), organizational commitment (7 items), job satisfaction (8 items) and transformational transactional leadership (14 items). Cronbach's alpha and factor analysis were examined to test reliability and construct validity of the scale. The data collected were processed using SPSS Window 15.0 Program for actual numbers and percentages, differences in the dependent variable according to general characteristics, and means, standard deviations, correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis. Results: The factors influencing nurses' organizational citizenship behavior were identified as self-leadership ($\beta=.247$), empowerment ($\beta=.233$), job satisfaction ($\beta=.209$), organizational commitment ($\beta=.158$), and transactional leadership ($\beta=.142$). Five factors explained 42.0% of nurses' organizational citizenship behavior. Conclusion: The results of this study can be used to develop further management strategies for enhancement of nurses' organizational citizenship behavior.

The Impact of Superleadership on Organizational Cynicism and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (수퍼리더십이 조직냉소주의와 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of superleadership on organizational cynicism and organizational citizenship behavior. On the basis of theoretical linkages between the constructs, a conceptual model and hypotheses were established. The sample included 400 employees. Structural equation modeling(SEM) was used to employed the hypothesized relationships in the conceptual model. Results indicated that (a)superleadership has a negative impact organizational cynicism; (b)organizational cynicism has a negative impact organizational citizenship behavior; (c)superleadership has a positive impact organizational citizenship behavior. Implications for applying superleadership to organizational cynicism and organizational citizenship behavior were discussed and future research directions were outlined.

  • Background: The organizational citizenship behavior is generally known as the important factor relevant to the organizational effectiveness. This research examined the mediating effect of the organizational citizenship behavior of hospital employees on the organizational effectiveness. Methods: Data were collected from 1,112 employees located in city of Seoul, Kyunggi and Chungnam province through self-administered questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS ver. 20.0, frequency analysis, t-test, analysis of variance, regression analysis, and path analysis. The main findings of the study are as follows. Results: First, it was found that many characteristics variables of personality, job, and relationship together affected organizational citizenship behavior of hospital employees. Especially, the following variables of negative affectivity, desire for growth, job value, job significance, and job security were found to have significant effect on the organizational citizenship behavior of hospital employees. Second, the results of path analysis showed that, through the mediating effect of organizational citizenship behavior, personality variables of positive and negative affectivity, and desire for growth, job characteristics variables of job value, job significance, and job security, and relationship variables of organizational support and task interdependence, had significant total effects on the level of job satisfaction of hospital employees. Conclusion: As a result, the organizational citizenship behavior seems to have both direct and indirect effects on the organizational effectiveness of hospital employees. Based on above findings, some theoretical and practical implications were discussed.

Mediating Effect of Psychological Empowerment on the Causal Relationship between High-Performance Work System and Organizational Citizenship Behavior in Social Welfare Organizations

  • The study is to examine the mediating effect of psychological empowerment on the causal relationship between high-performance work system and organizational citizenship behavior. This study collected data from public organizations that are responsible for social welfare provision in Daegu, Gyeongsangbuk-Do, and Pusan in South Korea. This study employs confirmatory factor analysis in Amos 21 to find the discriminant validity of all constructs and regression analysis by Baron and Kenny (1986) to test that psychological empowerment is a mediator of the causal relationship between high-performance work system and organizational citizenship behavior. As the result of the analysis, psychological empowerment has a significant mediating effect on the relationship between high-performance work system and organizational citizenship behavior. The study suggests to the managers in social welfare organizations how they need to enhance organizational citizenship behavior through psychological empowerment themselves.

  • The purpose of this study was to empirically examine the effect of job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior on customer orientation to investigate the causal relationships among these variables. The questionnaires was administered to 121 fashion product employees of department stores in Gwang-ju city during February $10{\sim}15$, 2006. For analysis of data, frequency, factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, regression analysis, and path analysis were applied. The results indicated that job satisfaction of employees significantly influenced customer orientation(p<0.001) and organizational citizenship behavior(p<0.001). The organizational citizenship behavior of employees significantly influenced customer orientation(p<0.001). The job satisfaction had both direct and indirect effects on customer orientation mediated by organizational citizenship behavior.

Identification of Factors related to Hospital Nurses' Organizational Citizenship Behavior using a Multilevel Analysis (다수준 분석을 이용한 임상간호사의 조직시민행동과 관련된 요인탐색)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to nurses' organizational citizenship behavior using multilevel analysis which included both nurse characteristics at individual levels and nursing unit characteristics at group levels. Methods: The sample was composed of 1,996 nurses who were selected from 182 nursing units in 28 hospitals in six metropolitan cities and seven provinces using cluster sampling. Data were collected using self-reported questionnaires from February to March 2006. Results: The results of the study indicated that individual level variables related to organizational citizenship behavior were religion, job position, clinical career, self efficacy, positive affectivity, and supervisor support. The group level variables related to organizational citizenship behavior were collective efficacy, number of nurses in a nursing unit, and the average salary level of a nursing unit. 30.9% of individual level variances of organizational citizenship behavior were explained by the nurses' individual level variables. The explanatory power of group level variables, which is related to group level variances of organizational citizenship behavior, was 75.5%. Conclusion: This research showed that it was necessary to develop appropriate strategies related to not only individual factors, but also higher-level organizational factors such as collective efficacy, to improve individual performances in the hospital.

The Effect of Ethical Leadership on Organizational Citizenship Behavior: An Empirical Study in Indonesia

  • Fraud cases that are committed by top management or people who have high positions or organization can be called character assassination crimes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethical leadership on organizational citizenship behavior and the effect of ethical leadership on job satisfaction and job satisfaction on organizational citizenship behavior. This study uses quantitative methods with SEM analysis tools partial least square (PLS) with the population of this study being all civil servants in the Kediri city government with 125 organizational members. This research instrument uses a questionnaire divided into three main parts: (1) leadership ethics as measured by 6 indicators and 12 items. (2) Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) as measured by 7 dimensions and 14 items (3) job satisfaction as measured by 4 indicators and 8 items. Based on the results of the discussion of data analysis that has been carried out through data processing and proof of hypotheses, it can be concluded that an increase in ethical leadership will have an impact on increasing organizational citizenship behavior, an increase in ethical leadership variables will affect job satisfaction and that job satisfaction has no significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior.

The Effects of Leader's Emotional Intelligence and Nurse's own Emotional Intelligence on Organizational Commitment and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (간호사가 지각한 리더의 감성지능과 자신의 감성지능이 조직몰입 및 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of leader's emotional intelligence and nurse's own emotional intelligence on organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. Methods: Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires from 346 clinical nurses, and analysed by the SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The Factors which influence organizational commitment were use of emotion of nurse (${\beta}$=.28), other's emotional appraisal of leader(${\beta}$=.25), regulation of emotion of leader(${\beta}$=.16), other's emotional appraisal of nurse(${\beta}$=14). These factors explained 36.7% of organizational commitment. The Factors which influence organizational citizenship behavior were other's emotional appraisal of nurse(${\beta}$=.25), use of emotion of nurse(${\beta}$=.24), regulation of emotion of nurse(${\beta}$=.23), use of emotion of leader(${\beta}$=.20). These factors explained 43.6% of organizational citizenship behavior. Conclusion: The results of this study can be used to develop hospitals' management strategies for enhancement of nurses' organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior.

  • The purpose of this research investigates the relationship among followership, organizational cynicism, and organizational citizenship behavior in Hotel employee. The data are analyzed by such frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, covariance structure analysis. The SPSS 10.1 and AMOS 4.0 for Windows program was used to investigate material. The major finding and implication can be summarized as follow: First, the analysis on relationship between followership and organizational cynicism revealed that critical thinking and active participation dimensions of but enthusiasm dimension of followership has not affected organizational citizenship behavior. Second, the analysis on relationship between organizational cynicism and organizational citizenship behavior revealed that organizational cynicism affects organizational citizenship behavior.
