  • The purpose of this study is to determine the possibilities of blending carbon black, which is known for its permeability as well as its strong heat and fire resistance, into concrete, in a manner that reinforces its strengths mentioned above. Experiments show that in non-solidified, fresh-mixed concrete, the addition of carbon black effectively reduced slump level and air content due to its absorptiveness and minute particle size. It also showed good results in terms of coagulation time, penetration resistance and bleeding level. In solid concrete, it showed better strength than plain concrete. Due to the pozzolanic reaction, its strength became more pronounced over time. At approximately 850 degrees Celsius, the heat and fire resistance level increased in parallel to the level of chemical substitution (by carbon black). Drying shrinkage level appeared to be optimal, and environmental assessment test results related to CO, CO2 and formaldehyde also scored better than plain concrete. In summary, with the appropriate use of AE water-reducing agents, carbon black can prove to be a strong candidate as an ingredient for industry-grade concrete.

  • In this study, Leuconostoc mesenteroides CJNU0041 was isolated from Korean traditional food kimchi and antimicrobial activity of fermented broccoli with the isolate was tested against pathogenic Clostridium difficile. L. mesenteroides CJNU0041 showed higher glucosidase activity than other isolates. As the results of physiological properties such as pH and viable cell count during broccoli fermentation with L. mesenteroides CJNU0041, we confirmed that 48 hours was optimal fermentation time. As the results of metabolite analysis by HPLC, metabolites were changed during the fermentation. Especially, the growth of C. difficile was inhibited by the fermented broccoli. Therefore, L. mesenteroides CJNU0041 might be a candidate for improving the functionality of natural materials by lactic acid fermentation.

  • We propose an adaptive scheme of a differential codebook for temporally correlated channels. And the codeword entries of the propose codebook are selected among the set of M-PSK constellations - the values of M proposed in this paper are 8, 16, or 32. Firstly, we analyze mathematically how the optimal spherical cap radius of the proposed codebook is tracked. Then, we explain the practical implementation of the proposed adaptive method. Practically, some candidate differential codebooks we propose in this paper can be switched according to the temporal correlation coefficients of wireless channels in the proposed scheme. Monte-Carlo simulations demonstrate that the achievable throughput performance employing the proposed codebook is always superior to those of the differential codebooks employing M-PSK constellations and non-adaptive differential codebooks with the same amount of feedback information.

  • Hard magnet was usually used by coating $SiO_2$ ceramic thick films followed by the thermal annealing process. In this work, the alternative annealing process for NdFeB magnets using e-beam sources (1~2 MeV, 50~400 kGy) was investigated. NdFeB magnets was coated with ceramic thick films using the spray method. The optimal annealing parameter for e-beam source reveals to be 1 MeV and 300 kGy. The sample prepared at 1 MeV and 300 kGy was characterized by the analysis of the surface morphology, film hardness, adhesion and chemical stability. The mechanical property of thick film, especially film hardness, is better than that of thermal annealed samples at $180^{\circ}C$. As a result, e-beam annealing process will be one of candidate and attractive heat treatment process. In future, manufacturing process will be carried out in cooperation with the magnet company.

  • The foremost criterion in the design of a Satellite Launch Vehicle(SLV) is its performance capability to boost the designated payload to the desired mission orbit; it starts from focusing on the SLV configuration to achieve the velocity requirements($}\Delta}V$) for the mission. In this paper we review an analytical approach which is suitable enough for preliminary conceptual design and is used previously to optimize stage configurations for Two Stage to Orbit SLV for Low Earth Orbit(LEO) Missions; we have extended this approach to Three Stage to Orbit SLV and compared different propellant options for the mission. The objective is to minimize the Gross Lift off Weight(GLOW). The primary performance figures of merit were the total inert weight of the SLV and the payload weight that the SLV could lift into LEO, given candidate propulsion systems. The optimization is achieved by configuring the $}\Delta}V$ between stages. A comparison of configurations of single-stage and multi-stage SLVs is made for different propellants. Based upon the optimized stage configurations a comparative performance analysis is made between Liquid and Solid fueled SLV. A 3 degree of freedom trajectory-analysis program is modeled in SIMULINK and used to conduct the performance analysis. Furthermore, a cost analysis is performed on our stage optimized SLVs. The cost estimation relationships(CER) used give us a comparison of development and fabrication costs for the Liquid vs. Solid fueled SLV in man years. The pros and cons of the production, operation ability, performance, responsiveness, logistics, price, shelf life, storage etc of both Solid and Liquid fueled SLVs are discussed. The statistics and data are used from existing or historical(real) SLV stages.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for computing architecture for high-performance Inter Prediction SAD HEVC encoder. HEVC Motion Estimation (ME) of the Inter Prediction is a process for searching for the currently high prediction block PU and the correlation in the interpolated reference picture in order to remove temporal redundancy. ME algorithm uses full search(FS) or fast search algorithm. Full search technique has the guaranteed optimal results but has many disadvantages which include high calculation and operational time due to the motion prediction with respect to all candidate blocks in a given search area. Therefore, this paper proposes a new algorithm which reduces the computational complexity by reusing the SAD operation in full search to reduce the amount of calculation and computational time of the Inter Prediction. The proposed algorithm is applied to an HEVC standard software HM16.12. There was an improved operational time of 61% compared to the traditional full search algorithm, BDBitrate was decreased by 11.81% and BDPSNR increased by about 0.5%.

  • Omega-3 fatty acids and carotenoids, which are known as representative high-value substances derived from microalgae, are being studied from various diatoms. Most of the diatoms contain fucoxanthin and omega-3 fatty acid. Fucoxanthin produced by diatom has been reported as bioactive compounds exhibiting strong antioxidant, anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities. However, the low growth rate and fucoxanthin content of diatoms are one of the big obstacles to the industrial application. In this study, indigenous marine diatom Achnanthidium sp. BS-001 was isolated for a candidate of fucoxanthin producer. Light intensity and temperature for the culture of Achnanthidium sp. BS-001 were optimized on PhotoBiobox. Optimization of silicate concentration for increasing BS-001 biomass productivity was confirmed in F/2 medium with various concentration of sodium silicate. As a result, condition of light intensity, temperature, and silicate concentration for optimal cultivation were $150{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, $18^{\circ}C$ and 0.106 mM, respectively. Maximum biomass productivity reaches to $154.3mg{\cdot}L^{-1}{\cdot}day^{-1}$, and then the content of omega-3 fatty acids and fucoxanthin were $19.4mg{\cdot}g^{-1}$, $9.05mg{\cdot}g^{-1}$, respectively. These results indicate that Achnanthidium sp. BS-001 has the potential to be used as a source of omega-3 fatty acids and fucoxanthin.

  • A new ${\alpha}$-amylase-encoding gene (amySL3) of glycoside hydrolase (GH) family 13 was identified in soda lake isolate Alkalibacterium sp. SL3. The deduced AmySL3 shares high identities (82-98%) with putative ${\alpha}$-amylases from the genus Alkalibacterium, but has low identities (<53%) with functionally characterized counterparts. amySL3 was successfully expressed in Escherichia coli, and the recombinant enzyme (rAmySL3) was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity. The optimal temperature and pH of the activity of the purified rAmySL3 were determined to be $45^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.5, respectively. rAmySL3 was found to be extremely halophilic, showing maximal enzyme activity at a nearly saturated concentration of NaCl. Its thermostability was greatly enhanced in the presence of 4 M NaCl, and it was highly stable in 5 M NaCl. Moreover, the enzyme did not require calcium ions for activity, and was strongly resistant to a range of surfactants and hydrophobic organic solvents. The major hydrolysis products of rAmySL3 from soluble starch were maltobiose and maltotriose. The high ratio of acidic amino acids and highly negative electrostatic potential surface might account for the halophilic nature of AmySL3. The extremely halophilic, calcium-independent, and surfactant-resistant properties make AmySL3 a promising candidate enzyme for both basic research and industrial applications.

  • This study investigates mixtures of water and cryoprotectant agents (CPAs) to store high-grade cold energy. Although water is an ideal material for a cold thermal storage (CTS) due to its high specific heat, undesirable volume expansion may cause structural stresses during freezing. The volume expansion can be alleviated by adding the CPAs to water. However, the CPA aqueous solutions not only have different thermal properties but also transit to amorphous state different from pure water. Therefore, these characteristics should be considered when using them as material of the CTS. In experiments, glycerol and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) are selected as the candidate CPA. The volume expansion of the solution is measured by an in-situ strain gauge in low temperature region. The specific heat capacity of the solution is also measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Both the amount of volume expansion and the specific heat capacity of the CPA aqueous solution decrease in the case of higher concentration of CPA. These characteristics should be contemplated to select optimal aqueous solution for CTS for liquid air energy storage system (LAES). The CPA solutions have advantages of having wide temperature range to utilize the latent heat of water and higher sensible heat of the CPA. The CPA solutions which can satisfy the allowable stress of the structure are determined. Consequently, among the CPA solutions investigated, DMSO 20% w/w solution is the most suitable for the CTS.

  • In this paper, to reduce the unpaid rate of local governments, the internal data elements affecting the arrears in Water-INFOS are searched through interviews with meter readers in certain local governments. Candidate data affecting arrears from national statistical data were derived. The influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable was sampled by examining the disorder of the dependent variable in the data set called information gain. We also evaluated the higher prediction rates of decision tree and logistic regression using n-fold cross-validation. The results confirmed that the decision tree can find more accurate customer payment patterns than logistic regression. In the process of developing an analysis algorithm model using machine learning, the optimal values of two environmental variables, the minimum number of data and the maximum purity, which directly affect the complexity and accuracy of the decision tree, are derived to improve the accuracy of the algorithm.
